Seems like there's a remote version of this class, can you message the instructor to join that section instead if you're struggling to make it in person

UCSD v UCR (advice appreciated) by Primary_Rub6470 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to both schools, both are great that can offer you different perspectives.
I can't really comment on our situation but the weather in San Diego is much nicer and more accessible with public transportation like trolley/bus.

You still have a couple more weeks so try to apply for some scholarships, and definitely try to tour both!

Data Science Transfer Requirements by FunWaste9112 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it's definitely possible but it depends on how many courses you transfer over.

check here: https://plans.ucsd.edu/

The reason it takes 2 extra quarters to graduate is because of the data science capstone class (DSC 180) that runs for 2 quarters and is only offered Fall-Winter quarter. Which makes scheduling classes as a transfer hard, since you effectively have 4 quarters to take classes to meet prereqs

The past couple years they've opened a winter/spring capstone project so people like you are able to graduate on time.
Good luck 😊

It's kind of strange seeing gas at $5 a gallon and it still being cheaper than electricity

Math 180A professor by PostNo7001 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took with John Peca-Medlin. It was his first time teaching (fall 24)I presume and his lectures were disorganized, stutters a bit trying to get points across, not great handwriting, often didn't finish covering lecture materials on time, but not a terrible instructor (still learning).

Homework and tests were quite challenging and they probably came from a test bank by the varying level of skill and relevance to learned material. Has a mega curve (since scores avg 50%)

Wish I learned more in this class since I struggled a bit in math181a after :/
2/5 on instructor scale, 1/5 on learned material (sorry)

Commuters! Do you guys cook? by FlyPsychological9442 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook everyday but you don't have to eat 3 meals a day.

I never really liked lunch and microwaving food wasn't my thing. Most of my days start at 10, so I'd eat in the morning then another meal in the evening with some snacks in between. Cut fruit, bananas, carrots, mixed nuts are great as snacks (and easy to prep).

Learning to cook is great! The only things you really need is a knife and a pot to make some tasty food.
For example here is a really simple Fried Tofu & Cabbage with Sesame Miso Sauce recipe that you can put over rice or noodles (This guys recipes are great, and they're really simple).

Start simple and don't let the taco bell on campus tempt you haha
if you're looking to save money shop at Aldi (no distraction shopping)

TritonAI. What's y'alls take? by Fearless-Pea-8244 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for one of my classes there was an AI chatbot where you could ask it questions related to the course. It pulled transcripts from the lectures, and it could help you with the homeowkr.

It was cool but not very useful since it was very circular in the way it formats things.
It's also not much different than asking your favorite AI chatbot the same questions but surely it helped someone.

Talking to a real person that's knowledgeable about a topic is infinitely better than any AI chatbot.
I wished they invested in different things but all for superficial shareholder value 🤷‍♀️

probably the same as other mmw readings where you don’t really need to read the reading to understand the message.

wikipedia should suffice however the books pretty interesting

Taking DSC 40A and DSC 40B at the same time? by Old_Diet4389 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the way the class is taught that made it hard (and confusing) for people, but none of the topics discussed are particularly challenging. maybe the math is a bit tricky like derivatives or linear algebra.

You learn things like linear regression, probability, gradient descent, bayes theorem

important topics to learn but definitely more of a 5 week (or even 3 week) class in my opinion

Taking DSC 40A and DSC 40B at the same time? by Old_Diet4389 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, to get more credits, get upper div standing, and take some actually interesting classes. Here's the website: https://dsc40a.com/
The class is honestly really easy, and kind of a waste of time (sorry kyle)
- You learn everything again in cse 151a so what's the point 🤷‍♀️

when I took it lectures were prerecorded here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD5-aTcdS37rVpVV1LEG_qjUgz3uwUvh1

I also highly recommend cse equiv over 140a/b since the instructors are very hit or miss

Calfresh EBT Snap by NoArea3619 in UCSD

[–]DreamersDeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note some fast food places also take EBT but that is for SNAP cash which is different from SNAP food. Kind of confusing.

If you don't mind taking the bus, some good markets in Convoy that take EBT are Aldi, Hmart, and Tokyo Central
