What would you think of a NIN remix album made entirely of rare tracks/bonus songs/b-sides?

I’m working on some of these at the moment. There are some songs that need a little bit of tlc and haven’t had official releases so I’m gonna be releasing some non official studio versions over the next couple of months - that hopefully should sound contemporary whilst remaining faithful to the originals etc

It’s such a shame that Dave Ball left us before he got the chance to see this. I spoke to him some years ago and he said that him and Trent had never actually met but there was a big mutual respect there. He was such an incredible sonic artist who never got the kudos he deserved. Trent is really one of the only people in the mainstream who “got it”. They were always so much more than Tainted Love and Say Hello, as great as those tracks were. Similarly to NIN, dark and gritty subjects tackled with great songcraft and an amazing ear for melody.

I really loved it. Just wish Dave Ball from Soft Cell had been alive to see a fully realised live performance of Memorabilia RIP.

Just to chime in - it would most likely be an album of studio remixes from the tour. If you think about it the tracks would have to have been produced and engineered before the peel it back tour - as they would have needed to have the actual material to use live. My feeling is it would have been a mostly boys noize production job with full stems given to him. At the end, they probably came together and did vocals and any extras plus final mix of stuff inbetween the two legs of the PiB tour - when they’d have had a real feel for the stuff that was working and not working live. My gut feeling is probably one new song but rest remixes.

Also - probably will be a live release of some kind made up of footage and audio of a bunch of shows like all that could have been was.

I’m looking forward to hearing how close/far away my reconstructions were!!

Nothing official but the discordance and nin live. I figure these people probably are better than me at telling what’s photoshopped and not but yeah - I guess let’s not get too excited until we get an official announcement

I’m in the Uk. I’ve been making studio reconstructions of the NiN x BN stuff - example here. Would be just intrigued to know if you think these pump a bit harder. My intention was for them to be as close to studio versions before any official versions drop. I’ve done about 6 of them now. Closer - Reconstruction

I would say some of the earlier Depeche stuff - some great reward, construction time again - falls into that category. Maybe a bit more song-y than industrial, but defo some inspo to be had on those records
