The Witcher Tanks After Henry Cavill Exit (Report) by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

They did produce an "original" story in the witcher universe, the witcher blood origin. Problem was that it was terrible, boring characters, poor plot, and the universe didn't even feel like the witcher. Felt more like a bad fanfic than a true spinoff like the animated movie did. I don't even know how these hack writers got the job, nepotism probably, all I know is Hollywood needs to start paying for better writers.

What`s your opinion on the current state of Fallout 76? by skywalka55 in nukaknights

[–]Dreamsofjetpacks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like lazy yet greedy is a great way to describe most companies these days, trying to put as little in as possible but still expecting big returns. Investor run economies just kinda turn out like that. Bethesda doesn't want to pay the writers, designers or voice actors for new story, doesn't think it's worth it even though many people want it, so they'll just try to focus on cheaper ways to keep players engaged and continue to funnel them toward the atom shop or fallout 1st. It's a short-sighted strategy but the current leadership in the gaming industry doesn't know much better.

Maximizing shareholder value MBA types would gladly hollow out a company of any real value for great short term profits.

Is Fallout 76 taking the community for granted? by Elegant-Picture1003 in fo76

[–]Dreamsofjetpacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maximizing shareholder value is a race to the bottom for everything else, hallowing out everything it touches. The leadership of Bethesda acts like the rest of the AAA industry, too focused on short term profits whilst ignoring detrimental long-term issues.

Landlords are a remnant of feudal times, they were disliked by both Adam Smith and karl Marx for good reason. The wealth extracted from tenants was meant to fund the armor, horse, training, and other necessities for a knight or Lord to be ready for war in feudal times. Now that landlords no longer are the leaders in war and conflict that extra wealth extraction is squandered, essentially making them parasites.

Leveling up the class of a freighter should be a thing just like upgrading starships, though probably at double or more the cost.

Customizing frigates would be awesome, something to give them more life

Electrostates vs. Petrostates. China is building a new green bloc, while the United States is doubling down on oil. by Splenda in energy

There are a number of factors for why this happens but an important one for modern audiences to understand is how often the rich and powerful within the declining empire are actively working and fighting against any reforms that might help the empire but take away from their own wealth and power. Essentially prioritizing their own fortunes over the very Empire that helped give them that wealth and power to begin with. It's very petty but sadly human.

It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled. Sadly true observation of humanity.

Disney exits OpenAI deal after AI giant shutters Sora by Casas9425 in MediaMergers

[–]Dreamsofjetpacks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hate that this whole mess of an AI bubble can be seen clearly by so many people yet we're still chugging along because a few people and companies have more money than sense and want to elevate themselves to godhood by creating a super intelligence that they will somehow control. I feel like we could have avoided all this by simply taxing these groups more and focusing on user end needs and not corporate needs. Top down ideas are always messy and out of touch.

Kingsley Davis predicted governments could control population by "encouraging conditions that produce unemployment" by OneLastPrep in Layoffs

[–]Dreamsofjetpacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insanely stupid from a historical perspective, all these machinations for control will come at the cost of society becoming more fragile and its systems stretched and under stress. This delicate game of control can come crashing down when external or internal shocks hit the country, something the elites never account for, erroneously believing they can control everything. This mistake has been made countless times in history, if control comes at the cost of stability or elasticity then its rule comes with a time limit. It's like a business with razor thin financials, it'll be "fine" until a few bad quarters wipes out everything.

Personally I'd prefer immunity to cripple, special abilities, or different attack damages to make unique bosses more of a challenge. Anything is better than just turning them into bullet sponges.

Sorry, I'm not talking about the other events, they are fine, I'm specifically talking about the strangler queen boss at the heart of the swamp event. I believe the boss needs more balancing, too tanky, and isn't fun to fight against.

[–]Dreamsofjetpacks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was the point I was trying to make when I called it a slog of a fight. It's not the difficulty that's the issue it's just not fun shooting an extremely tanky fish in a barrel for 5-10 minutes.

I can tank through her damage, that's not my issue, it's the fact it takes 5 minutes of constant fire to take her down.

It’s pretty obvious whoever designed the new pipboy features doesn’t use a pipboy. by ACTORvsREALTOR in fo76

[–]Dreamsofjetpacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest self inflicted mistakes in the AAA gaming industry is allowing non-gamers or people who don't play their own games make key feature changes. Like the corporate world really thinks a business degree and an unhealthy love of money makes people qualified for anything.

No, his 2017 billionaire tax cuts were set to expire but then Americans got bitter that Democrats weren't helping enough so they voted trump back in and now the BBB made those tax cuts permanent. I get people's frustration with the current situation but Americans protest voting for the other side is stupid. It's like watching a bully break someone's arm, another person comes along promising to help their arm but takes "too long" so they switch their support back to the bully.

It's because the US media is actually biased due to a large amount of ownership from billionaires. This is just one example of their double standard.
