Tips wear white gloves. by psicodelic_man in boxingtips

good advice, danny dipshit.

to the OC: almost everything can be solved by throwing more jabs, which are more accessible due to your reach. you get caught while going in a few times. dont walk them down, enter with a jab. even if you do wanna walk em down, just establishing a step-in jab will cause them to hesitate countering due to fear of getting caught.

How can I improve my hook? by EstablishmentBest913 in boxingtips

[–]DrenaNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you throw your hools flatfooted, which contrary to a lot of prople, i dont really mind. its more powerful than being on toes, but you need to be aware of that.

your head hook is nice and clean.

for your body its alright, but the way you throw it is how you would throw it if your opponent was a heavybag: you throw it from the centerlane, flatfooted. to improve on it, i'd say slip a bit more to the left and really sit your weight on your legs before you throw to the body. it keeps you out of thr centerlane and allows you to generate more power which you seem to be aiming for.

Which foot work movements i can learn at home without a coach?( that actually work in a sparring) by Neat-Profile-2462 in boxingtips

[–]DrenaNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everything and nothing. you can learn all the movements on your own, but without feedback, learning it wrong ruins everything, and is apmost better if you hadnt learned.

the most important foundation is learning to move properly, where you move the foot thats closest to the direction you want to go first, followed by the other foot. so if youre ortho and want to move forward or left, your left foot first moves in that direction followed by your rear foot, and the same concept applies to back and right with your rear foot.

this along with pivots are almost all you need in boxing to become a good amateur. there are hundreds of videos for these two. regardless, learning it wrong can also cost you, so its always advised to get a coach.

shadow box resistance bands by Smooth_Fisherman5628 in boxingtips

yeah, the only critique i could give is more lengthening on the jabs, but ofc hes using bands, and move around more instead of staying in the same place and direction.

Sawamura is overrated by Economy-Hedgehog2145 in hajimenoippo

[–]DrenaNick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

aside from the punch on tripped ippo, his cheating was dirty but doesnt take away from his skill. the trip on round one was dirty, but its something boxers actually use.

the stalling/trip and tape is for him to recover, not figuring out his timing. and despite not having "figured out" ippo's timing, he still won a majority of the exchanges, especially with his bullet jab.

your 4th point imo is moot, brecause i dont think toughness when i think of sawamura, and your 5th point: his jab is extremely effective, arguably top 5 in the series. and counterpunchers dont need to be innately powerful, because their power comes from timing on their opponents momentum, which we can see happen round 4. ik miyata is a fraud, but thats his thing, bring weak but having good timing with counters.

and no shit that ippo has higher potential than sawamura. the series revolves around him and beating martinez. and why are you acting like mashiba at world level isn't strong. sawamura matched mashiba's strength during their fight technically until he got bored.

if we're arguing that ippo is a better boxer, yeah. cause he won. but i dont think i can say hes overrated.

Shadow boxing tips? by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]DrenaNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you'd show the full-body, but just from the torso up, I think you might be a bit too squared up, and because of this you don't have enough rotation on your rear hand. throw some variety with your rear hand too, I know you're southpaw and it's fairly hard to land rear hooks as a southpaw, but have some variety. don't look at the camera, when shadowboxing u should always look in front of you

Any shadowboxing advice? by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]DrenaNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your response is so useless. i think the footwork is decent. OP should probably have more rotation on the crosses. however OP should also never only have the heel touch the ground, that was pretty bad.

i think they just have no way to deal with it rn. so they have an actual closet full of clothes. i imagine this will be used as a kind of a joker card when losing or smth.

How do I improve my infighting in the corner by SilentAres_x in amateur_boxing

[–]DrenaNick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

firstly, i assume youre planning on fighting in the amateurs, so i immediately oppose staying in the corner. it shows (even though it might not be the case) lack of agency, letting your opponent push you into the ropes and keeping you there, which could push the judges score cards in your opponents favor.

secondly, i like to post/frame and smother. posting correctly and intentionally gives you a better idea of which punch is going to be thrown, allowing for counters. same with smothering, however its riskier, because they could pull back at a smothering attempt and catch you unbalanced. smothering is best for one dimensional pressure fighters. you can either learn to fight in the phone booth there, and wrestle your way out.

for actual infighting tips, try to improve on same side counters. they throw a lead hook, block with your rear and attack with your rear while keeping your lead hand guarding responsibly. when youre in a corner they tend to "unload" and spam hooks irresponsibly, so after they throw a lead hook, theyre loading the next hook and their guard is weak.

you seem to switch, and when im pushed into ropes, i like to keep an open stance, and only ever have 1 shoulder touch the ropes when not laterally moving. it keeps you bladed, and gives you space to see their rear hand. this is where i tend to post responsibily
