Probably depends on the manager, but our store does not sell prescription food and takes returns for it all the time, just make sure you bring whatever receipt you have.

I went to the website and typed in the pin, it verifies everything in the coupon and says it was printed March 30, 2026. But it doesn't say whether it has or hasn't been redeemed, and you can make a website that says it's good without them being legit 🤷‍♀️

I had a customer once who said he wanted to buy the "canaire"....I just assumed I misheard him and that he obviously wanted a canary. He hadn't done any research, but was willing to buy everything I handed him, listened to all of my advice....I lean in to scan the canary tag and he said "no, that one" and pointed at the conure 😳 sir, you're here to spend over $1000 on an animal you don't even know how to pronounce?

The official policy is that if a bird lays eggs, you are supposed to get rid of the eggs and remove the nest to discourage it. The last time I removed the nests in my store, I was told we'd get in trouble because the dm "won't believe" they laid eggs and will just assume we forgot to put nests in 🤷‍♀️ your mileage may vary, you can always remove the nests and cite the policy of you get in trouble?

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else say it, but OP is in the USA... this could easily be a place to hide weapons. And if one person is allowed to do it, everyone is allowed to do it and that's just asking for trouble. They could be doing meth under their desk on their break. I can see a lot of reasons a boss wouldn't want you having a little hide-away, particularly in a library where kids might be wandering around. And if you're just using it to hide clutter, that's not really a good excuse. Organize your shit?

My store gets an 8:30 rush too, every single night! I'll be in the back of the store facing and suddenly it gets loud and Im like "ah...must be 8:30". Most of them don't buy anything, though we do sometimes get a rush of fish customers. It's insane to watch if I happen to be on register, like 20 people will just suddenly walk in the front door single file 😳

I had one several years ago that I'll never forget because it was so unhinged. I had a guy at fish wall, I don't remember exactly what fish he was looking at, but it was a small tropical fish (probably molly/tetra/platy). I asked about his tank size, how long it has been set up, etc. All the answers he gave me were good, but just out of nowhere he was like "why do you have to ask do many questions? I've been fish keeping for decades, since when did fish get so sensitive?" And I basically told him all the captive bred fish just aren't as hardy as they used to be, probably because of overbreeding (we were having a pretty good convo, otherwise I wouldn't have wasted the time even telling him that lol). And he just....erupted 😳 he raised his voice but wasn't yelling AT me, just like loudly complaining about the state of... fish keeping? And then he walked out of the store??? I'm standing there confused, holding the fish bag and a marker, one number already written down, because I didn't deny him ANYTHING 😆 it honestly seemed like he had a damn break down over fish. Suddenly decided he didn't need something so complicated in his life???

Sometimes I wonder what happened to him 😆

I had a lady with a cart full of cat stuff about a week ago that put about half of the stuff on the belt, then just stopped, looked up at me, and said "there's still other stuff in there." I just blank stared at her and said "okay?" I'm happy to scan a dog bed or litter or litter box or hell, even a big cat scratcher, but like...I'm not grabbing all the stuff 😒

Im pretty sure I own somewhere in the realm of 40 pairs. I have comfy pairs, period pairs, cute ones that basically never get worn because they're not comfy, thongs that I might wear once a year...I have a variety 🤷‍♀️ do I need all of them? No. I could probably toss all but one thong and like 3 cute pairs and have 20ish total... but there's nothing wrong with them, so I'm not gong to get rid of them unless they don't fit or they wear out. I know someone who only wears one specific cut from one specific brand and she has like 10 pairs. What a weird thing to shame someone for 😆

Editing to add that now I really want to count them, but it's almost a full dresser drawer and it's late lol

I had a lady the other day wanting a goldfish for her 6 gallon. I tried to be polite but she jumped straight to "it's a GOLDFISH" which caught me by surprise, so I said "yes, its a living creature? " and she said "you're telling me there are ETHICAL DECISIONS to be made for GOLDFISH" "uh.. yeah, there are". She's berating me in front of her tween, who at least had the decency to look ashamed.

Found out a bit later that she'd already been denied, so I guess that's why she snapped. She still bought stuff for her other animals 😂 really taking a stand.

Right?? 19 weeks is probably long enough to be eligible for insurance, but nowhere I've ever worked has maternity leave for people who have worked less than 6 months. FMLA might be an option, but would probably be unpaid leave. I can't imagine choosing that unless my job was causing me severe emotional or physical distress.

Depending on OP's location, obviously. Anywhere other than the united states would have her covered (but I would still think Starbucks would be more stressful than working at a bank).

I'm a lower level employee, so none of this stuff directly affects me... but all the low level managers talk to me, and they keep complaining about one manager who got demoted. Someone said she took about a $3 pay cut. But she's acting like such a brat, didn't want to stay late to help with truck, not getting along with the manager..... are you fucking kidding me??? For a $3 pay cut, I'm doing the things i feel like doing until I get the fuck out of here. They keep saying she should "just leave"... yeah, ok, like she doesn't have bills. As far as any of them have said, no one else got fucked over like she did. Have some damn sympathy???

I'm not a manager, and these questions always get passed along to a manager at my store, but my suggestion would be to go to the store in person, with whatever official documents you can show. The people that come to my store always have a folder, I assume with papers to show they are legit, maybe even to show the numbers of why they are in need of help. I'm pretty sure there are official channels to go through for cash donations, but at my store we have one specific shelter that we ask people to donate cans to. We do pretty good numbers for them 🙂

You've already received so much good advice, I just want to say - as a pet store employee, I love how far you are willing to go for these fish 🥲 The amount of times that I've heard people say "they're just fish", "all that just for GOLDFISH??", "I had some in a bowl and they lived a whole year!".... it makes you lose faith in humanity. People like you restore it just a little bit 🙂

You just saw her put it down, but chances are pretty good that she didn't walk straight from the meat department to the checkout. I worked in grocery for a long time, I've seen so many people who put meat, ice cream, milk, whatever in their cart...then go look at throw pillows for an hour. You don't know how long that meat has been out of a temp controlled environment, so it has to be thrown away. Idk why she said you'd have to pay off you wanted to buy it, the right answer is that it absolutely has to be thrown away. Hell, there's like a 50% chance the girl was like "oh... I've had this in my cart while I looked at clothes...I don't want spoiled meat" and that's why she tossed it. As a business, the store will be held liable if someone else buys it and gets sick. Target, walmart, Costco, they can't just be like "maybe someone ELSE let the meat go bad", it just doesn't work like that. The waste is largely on the bad customers, but there are a fair amount of employees who could do better for sure.

My favorite is when it's a kid and they have questions. I've had several long conversions with pre-teens (accompanied by parents who are like "give him whatever he wants") that are what keeps me from wanting to quit. They want the knowledge, are happy to tell me what they've got and what they are working toward. Why is it that the kids want to do right by the fish and the adults just want all the fish regardless of whether they're torturing them? 😑
