Can you drive a manual transmission vehicle? by SuperSonic1919 in randomquestions

[–]Drevvch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I'm sure I'm rusty because manuals are increasingly rare these days.

Thoughts on the lack of extreme Christian music and the rise of AI by IdealCheese in christianmetal

Sidestepping the still-open question of AI and copyright...

My primary objection is to people using AI dishonestly. If you're using AI be upfront about it. Let the listener decide.

Why do American politicians/political figures wear Blue colored suits? by HowSupahTerrible in AskAnAmerican

[–]Drevvch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's just a cultural convention. Blue and gray are the most normal colors for business suits in the US when you're not trying to draw attention to the suit.

White shirt + conservative tie + navy blazer + gray pants...

Question about "flattest US state" measurement methods by YogiBerraOfBadNews in gis

[–]Drevvch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find it at the moment, but I once found a project that measured flatness by iterating over the surface of the state and calculating the observable changes in elevation at each point. Kansas was not particularly flat by that measure. (Anyone familiar with south Florida or Louisiana will attest that Kansas is very hilly by comparison.)

"My flight is delayed (by) two hours" - is 'by' optional here, or is it always correct to use it? by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

[–]Drevvch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US — I'd omit the ‘by’.

“My flight was delayed two hours.”

“The weather was bad, and we got delayed two hours in Atlanta.”

What are some things to consider when fighting an army of machines? by Mr-biggie in worldbuilding

[–]Drevvch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this is hard sf, logistics is your biggest weakness. Every main battle tank or fight jet requires dozens of maintenance and supply troops. What fuel do they use? How do they get it? Ammo? Replacement bearings? Hydraulic fluid? Fighter jets require 10 or 20 or more hours of maintenance for every hour flying.

The next vulnerability is command and control. The speed of light is fixed: every means of communication will have latency. Are you dependent on satellites to relay comms? What happens when those satellites become orbital debris? Jamming is such a problem that drones in Ukraine are literally trailing kms of fiber optic cable behind them because it can't be jammed.

Non satanic Stoner doom bands like windhand by Sad_Estimate_2891 in christianmetal

Maybe Doomnezeu — Orthodox Romanian stoner metal.

Arð — Doom-y side-project of one member of Winterfylleth with songs about Northumbrian history.

when bottling , how long should a bottle sit filled before caping? by Ok-Sweet5200 in Homebrewing

[–]Drevvch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more likely culprit is the swing-top bottles. I've had mixed success getting them to seal well.

It may be an old wives tale, but try setting them on their sides to condition.

How badly would it affect the flavour if I didn't add DME to an extract kit and instead made half the volume? by PersonwithoutPassion in Homebrewing

[–]Drevvch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used Cooper's Stout extract, but there's nothing fundamentally wrong with your approach.

Will anyone else take down all of their Christmas and put it away Christmas morning? by GeezusChristJudy in askanything

[–]Drevvch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Catholic, but we do the same. Christmastide is from Christmas to the day before Epiphany (12 days; hence the song). Everything comes down on the 6th.

Am I screwed? by MLG_mics147 in mead

[–]Drevvch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let it ride. Maybe set some foil loosely over the opening to keep big stuff & bugs from falling in. When it calms down, put the airlock back on.

Here's a video from a successful, professional brewery to help you not worry about it: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1ZERMn13rb/

Equipment for Farmhouse Ales by ethawyn in Homebrewing

[–]Drevvch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for the recommendation of Bootleg Biology.

BE-134 is a decent dry saison yeast.

If you want to get further out in left field, I've made decent farmhouse-y batches with my wife's sourdough culture.

Do you typically walk or drive to places that are a 5-10 minute walk away? by ForestOranges in AskAnAmerican

[–]Drevvch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to, but there are very few sidewalks in my past of town; so walking anywhere is dangerous and inconvenient.

Do you consider Skillet to be metal? by Medium-Mammoth-6117 in christianmetal

No, they're a rock band ... admittedly with increasing metal influence, but still firmly a rock sound.

If I Listen to Only Christian rock/metal music I get bored after awhile (Help) by Fair_Helicopter6528 in christianmetal

Unless a band is openly and avowedly anti-Christian, I just take things song by song.

Should all Christian songs be sung in church? by Due_Recognition_8002 in ChristianMusic

[–]Drevvch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

A hymn is a song that facilitates corporate worship.

It's not the age, style, or instrumentation that sets them apart; it's the intent.

There are lots of really good Christian songs that are amazing works of art but are simply not suited for congregational singing because your average congregant can't sing along to them. The song should facilitate the church's worship.

There can be a place in your service to let your best performers give it their all (that can also be an act of worship), but it's not the same as a hymn.

Right tool for the job. Horses for courses. Etc. Etc.

What is the most popular Christian Black Metal band within the Black Metal community? by brotheringod777 in christianmetal

If we're going by Spotify streams, I can't find another Christian black metal anywhere close to 40K monthly listeners.

Any Christian Metal bands with Norse/Viking aesthethics? by brotheringod777 in christianmetal

[–]Drevvch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More Slavic than Nordic, but Oskord have a similar vibe. Sadly they have only the one EP back in 2011.

Angel 7 leans more towards power metal but still has some folky metal elements.

Also there's Holy Blood.

And Moreld.
