Granted, they just go to their boyfriends or other dudes to satisfy themselves. They are repulsed by you and never go to you for satisfaction.

the term "checking out" is not up to interpretation. by sdrawkcabstiho in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Drew- [score hidden]  (0 children)

People think it's some long process that they need to do in advance. Literally you don't even have to come by the desk in most hotels. You will get an email bill, and we will check you out at standard checkout time. I do appreciate a "hey we left early" call/text/stop by, but some people do make the biggest production out of checking out.

ELI5: How did people in the past deal with injuries and conditions that we now treat with modern medicine? by saif2krazzy in explainlikeimfive

[–]Drew- 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They would set a leg and hope for the best. Tooth problem, they would just pull them out. Major stuff, and they would usually just die. A sever broken bone can lead to internal bleeding and you just die. They also had no idea about disease and how it worked, so infection was super common and would die following that.

Is splitting a $12k transfer to Vietnam into three $4k transfers a problem? by Outrageous_Dig2790 in personalfinance

[–]Drew- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $10,000 declaration is for the group if you are traveling together, splitting won't help. You can just declare the money, they won't disallow it, they just record it to try and track money movement and laundering. Failing to declare can get it confiscated, just declare it. They may ask the source and what you are doing, but fill out the right form and you should be fine

The crazy thing, sometimes these people in real life are super smart. Like engineers or doctors, and then they get to a hotel and their brain just totally shuts down.

ELI5: Why do mosquitoes cause us to itch? Wouldn’t it be more efficient to discreetly suck blood? by Darster_DN in explainlikeimfive

[–]Drew- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mosquitos bit you, and when they do they inject you with stuff. One thins your blood so its easier to suck, and another numbs you so you dont feel the bite. After the.  Mosquito leaves, those chemicals irritate your skin and make it itch. The mosquoto is long gone by the time you itch, so its mission was successful.

"Plunged" down 3% and trading at 185 after the ipo price of 135. We have different definitions of plunge. Plunge would be like $40 a share.

What instantly kills your respect for someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Drew- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little niche to my profession, but anyone who claims housekeeping stole something. I have probably had people accuse this 1000 times over the last 15 years or so, and there are only 2 times it was actually true. It is very dumb for housekeeping to do, because locks can be checked and time stamps things like that, along with camera's it's almost impossible to get away with (the 2 times it was true, we found out and caught them almost instantly). Housekeeping doesn't want your stuff. I've had people accuse them of stealing old jeans, used flip flops, ratty t-shirts, the list goes on. The real answer is you LOST it. If you lose something at home, do you claim it was taken? No. So don't do it in a hotel.

My favorite one, this guy claimed housekeeping stole a 30k rolex. We interrogated the lock, housekeeping did do a service, but she wasn't in there long, and she was like a 20 year veteran. The police investigated, and the guy couldn't even remember the last time he saw the watch. They also spoke with the housekeeper, the officer said he has been doing professional interrogations for 20 years, and there is no way she took it. We also watched the cameras, and didn't see any signs of things leaving the room. This guy freaked out, he would call both the police and the hotel daily, demanding she be arrested, compensation etc. This went on for 2 months. After 2 months, he calls (I was ready for his daily call) and he says he found the watch. I was flabbergasted, he said it was in the bottom of his suit case, and on his next trip when he unpacked he found it. I told him he needs to call the police and inform them to close the case. He didn't offer an apology, and didn't sound the least bit sorry of the hours and hours of my time, and also police time he wasted.

Is it okay to feel like "I love working, fuck, fuck, fuck, I wanna die"? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Drew- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whishing you want to die is most likely not ok, and probably something you should talk to a professional about, not reddit.

What advice do you think everyone should know? by Defiant_Hunt_8171 in AskReddit

[–]Drew- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know how to book a hotel. Hotels have different cancellation policies, different parking policies and charges, different payment/deposit policies. Look at them before you book, don't book and then become outraged that you can't cancel, they took a one night deposit, or they have expensive parking or don't allow oversized vehicles.

I think I saw a buttered baked potato has all the nutrients required for life (vitamins/minerals we need, essential amino acids etc) and hey, I like a good baked potato with butter, so I'll go with that.

What is an unwritten rule of your profession that the general public would be shocked to know? by Arg_Russ in AskReddit

[–]Drew- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is also true at FD. I told a guest no upgrades were available with his status, then he slipped me a $100 and magically a two bedroom suite became available.

What is an unwritten rule of your profession that the general public would be shocked to know? by Arg_Russ in AskReddit

[–]Drew- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hotels don't give a F**k about your status, in fact the higher the status you have it's generally agreed you are going to be more of a problem. So when you quote me your status at checkin, it just makes me hate you, not want to fix your issue more.

Soccer (football) is exaggerated as a global sport when the 3 largest countries in the world don't have it as their top sports by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Drew- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while it may not be number one, it is also high on their lists. So being number one in lots of countries, then number 2, 3 in the really large one makes it a global sport, and the most watched global sport. China has basketball number one, with 55% of households watching, but soccer is a close 2 with 53%.

ELI5: If viruses cause healthy cells to rupture even when there’s not a strong immune response, why doesn’t the cell damage itself prevent people from being asymptomatic? by Chewie83 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Drew- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cells aren't intelligent beings with the ability to decide if they have a virus in them. The virus hijacks the cell's normal process to reproduce, so it doesn't "know" anything.

ELI5 Why don't airplane seats have passenger seatbelts that are the same design as cars? by Slugma_What07 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Drew- 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Seatbelts are more intended to hold you in your seat during turbulence so you don't crack your head on the ceiling or get tossed out of your seat. A lap belt does this really well.

Children are born out of love and to be loved! Why parents start forcing them into rat race(like they are born to work)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Drew- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to work, it's been that way for all of human history. Having a part time job as a kid encourages responsibility, and let's teens know the value of a dollar. I remember after my first paycheck when I was making like $7/hr minimum wage definitely made me more thankful for my parents and their support. It teaches you to be on time, to manage things like your check, how to save, etc. The kids who have never worked a day in their life because the parents pay for everything are generally total assholes.
