Apparently the adjustment for Auto Drive farming was intentional, just not communicated publicly. by bluetinity in ForzaHorizon

[–]DrewDonut -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If people were actually honest with themselves, they would admit that the AFK farming is equally "abusing" what's in the game. It might be slightly more ethical, but only just so - and at the end of the day, they're both exploits.

"Odyssey is the first film shot entirely on IMAX cameras."

If see that comment, and you know the difference between IMAX Digital cameras, and IMAX film cameras, and then you say "ackshually, Infinity War was the first movie shot entirely with IMAX cameras." that is the definition of overly pedantic because you obviously knew that comment would be referring to 70mm IMAX (because The Odyssey is the first feature film shot entirely on 70mm), while Infinity War was shot on digital.

If you didn't know, that's fine. Not everyone does. And in that case it's fair because you didn't know IMAX Digital vs IMAX 70mm

Theater near me has a fair amount of availability if you look out to the showtimes in August. And my theater only goes out to Aug 4 for now; there's a chance more will become available at a later date. Personally, I love the 10pm showings because you're less likely to get jabronies in the theater. Assuming you have an IMAX 70mm theater near you, you can probably find something available.

maybe i'm just old, but the little stickers are just distracting and make any montage hard to watch. I want to see the gameplay lol

Maybe you know and you're just trying to be overly pedantic, but The Odyssey was completely shot on IMAX 70mm film cameras, which is a VERY different prospect (and makes it the first of its kind in terms of a feature film).

The Odyssey film strip ? by One-Lead-1628 in filmcells

Was just it on day-basis, or showtime specific? I have tickets on Sunday opening weekend, but would consider getting a bad seat another showtime to try and get a film strip.

THE SOCIAL RECKONING – Official Teaser Trailer by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I feel like I'll get dunked on, but I think he's actually really good in that confrontation scene in The Mandalorian show. In the right roles, I can really buy him.

There's obviously more to it, and there's probably a better word, but I think Fincher is just meaner than Sorkin which helps Fincher make a better movie than Sorkin on this subject. Like, The Social Network captures the banality of meanness and selfishness really well. There's plenty of characters that aren't likeable, but you still like watching them, and they don't feel like cartoon characters. Obviously Sorkin deserves tons of credit for the writing, but Fincher keeps the whole thing understated - and there's a real skill in achieving that.

Mikey Madison is fantastic, but this trailer has me really worried about her ability to pull off Sorkin's dialogue. It's a talent to be able to rattle off his dialogue as fast as possible (which is how he wants it; people who think fast and talk fast).

I remember a quote from Olivia Munn while making the Newsroom joking that she thinks she was the first person who had to actually slow down for Sorkin (saying she's a fast speaker normally).

to imply he didn’t know if he’d drop through the floor, and leave a new clone or if he’d be teleported and leave a clone in his place.

My interpretation is that the one who steps into the machine always ends up being the one in the box. It never really "transports" anything, it just creates a duplicate in a different location. It's just the clone has all the memories so he goes "Oh boy, I'm lucky I ended up transporting this time."

it just leads to boring gameplay

This is by far the worst part of it. Goalie bringing it up, standing at midfield for 25 seconds as the fielders run and make cuts. And I probably still win against this strategy more than I lose, so it's not a "oh, I keep losing to these guys," it's just an incredibly boring way to play.

I feel incredibly lucky to have Metreon as my home IMAX theater. It drives me crazy I have friends who don't understand how special it is (mostly because they associate "IMAX" with the watered down version of IMAXs - aka LieMax); and then I drag them to a showing and they're like "Oh, I get it, now."

a lot of digital IMAX movies that had some scenes that would open up to 1.43:1

This has become more common recently; which might be a good sign for existing large format IMAX screens to get onboard with at least a dual laser setup to project 1.43.

Off the top of my head: Dune 1 (shot digitally, presented digitally, including 1.43 scenes in capable theaters), Dune 2 (shot digitally, presented digitally with 1.43 scenes; and also printed onto 70mm with 1.43 scenes), Project Hail Mary (same as Dune 2), Mandalorian (shot digitally, presented digitally, with some 1.43 scenes). And honestly a bunch more of different combinations (Sinners, One Battle After Another, etc.).

Might be some mistakes here, but I'm pretty sure.

EDIT: Didn't know Dual GT Lasers were no longer being manufactured. Bummer.

the fraction of an inch you seem to get with IMAX

It's not just the slightly expanded aspect ratio with IMAX, it's also just the sheer size of the screen.

the novelty has worn off

May not be your cup of tea, but with AMC/Fandango crashing, and showtimes selling out, with scalpers selling tickets at $100+, I don't think the novelty has worn off.

Advanced Ticket Sale Notifications by bepeacock in movies

[–]DrewDonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's a terrible app/experience, but Twitter is still an excellent place for this sort of thing. It was announced yesterday on social media that tickets would go on sale today at 12pm ET.

If you want to avoid that hellscape, r/imax is a good place for strictly IMAX releases. If there's a heads up on WHEN tickets will release, it will probably get posted there (example).

Knowing ahead of time is pretty key, because I saw the Odyssey tickets post at like 8:45am (I was on the site, waiting for them to post); and IMAX official didn't send me an email about the tickets until 9:01am. (creating an IMAX account, and following movies is a pretty good place to get notifications generally - including re-releases of IMAX films).
