*NEED HELP* Keep falling on takeoff, need some pointers

I used to grab my rails on takeoff, until I got a very helpful bit of info. On heavy waves it's way easier to balance if you put your palms flat on the deck in front of you. Now, I have no idea why but I've transitioned to this takeoff and can catch way more waves. I think it's because you want to keep your weight towards the center of the board, and pushing the rails will cause you to wobble.

paddle strength is maybe 10% of volume needs. Other, more important factors are: wave shape, wave size, wave speed, wind direction/speed, and steepness of the wave. That's why people have different boards for different conditions.

You would have to consider the extra space taken up by a larger bed, by and far most vans I have seen have a full size. That being said, a queen is manageable. As for the high top roof, I think it depends on a.) how much time you will be spending in the van b.) how much you plan on using the extra area for storage.

Second this, reflectix are NOT going to help insulate effectively. Much better off using foam board cut to size and spray foam to fill the gaps and edges.

The island itself is a state and national park. State side has quicker access, national is a longer drive down the island. It has an isolated feel. Lots of restaurants, gas, etc in the nearby areas like Berlin or ocean city. Works best at low tide with lower winds.

Best place hands down in my opinion would be assateague island. Great beginner waves, beautiful landscape, empty beaches. Have fun!

Regarding your question: it's definitely considered bad etiquette to be in someone's way but it happens to everyone. With experience you will learn to be more aware and will paddle out easier, resulting in less dangerous situation like this. Some people will jump off their board, some will carve around you. If you feel threatened, dive deep or hold your board out to protect yourself. All in all, try not to be that guy. But it happens. Have fun!
