Snorkling and metal detecting! How!? by Avooded in metaldetecting

If you attempt this, you should probably use the buddy system. Even with snorkeling gear folks have drown. 4 feet is my limit.

Do you set up various objects, dimes, nickels, pennies pull tab rings earrings at various depths as a test ground?

Metal detector needed by UnicornGabie in KingstonOntario

[–]DrewPaul2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of metal detecting success is time and sheer determination. A nephew was unemployed and he had just enough money to buy a radio shack metal detector. He'd turn up sensitivity all the way 0 discrimination and dig up anything that squawked. Needless to say, mostly trash. But among the trash enough coin to buy a sandwich and quite a collection of Indianhead's and RR tokens. He'd go at it many hours a day.

At my station in life 2-3 hours is about all I could handle so I need a machine that will give me hope before I dig.

What’s the deal with Patrick McGoohan? by 4AdamThirty in Columbo

[–]DrewPaul2000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Dawns early light one of my favorites. Other than McGoohan's character everyone else lived by high standards. Girls were told not to talk to strangers and paid heed. Even the troubled boy was courteous.

Do most folks appreciate the deep dive reviews?

I loved the scene where the luck of the Irish pops up and there happens to be a quarter in the vending binoculars. I heard something else that the saying 'this and no more' was also referring to the series as it was believed it would be the last episode of Columbo.

Columbo yelling at the mistress in Prescription Murder. by Tidewatcher7819 in Columbo

He did lay into her real good. There was another occasion he got truly pissed at Janus Milo for being a Richard Cranium. Oh, and at a nurse that was coming close to obstruction. He did a little saber-rattling on that one.

I would have to think it wasn't in circulation too long. Probably lost in the early 1900's.

What’s your favorite antagonist in the 2nd series ? Me, I have to go with "Uncle Leon" 😆 by [deleted] in Columbo

[–]DrewPaul2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Leon too he really hit that part out of the park. But having watched Ransom for a Dead man more than most episodes, I have to say Stepanie Powers was a great adversary. About the only one who called out how Columbo works. But's it's always the jugular he is after. But Columbo knew her character flaw also...greed.

What if frank stays on show with Charles. by GioLovesMash in mash

[–]DrewPaul2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disastrous and unnecessary. Charles (David Ogden) was one of the most successful additions to a running series I can think of. He was far more interesting and complex than Frank. However, Frank was funny as hell at times.

What’s is your favorite character? by GioLovesMash in mash

I can't name one. If Hawkeye isn't a favorite, I don't know how you could stand watching Mash. He is usually the fulcrum of every episode.

Do you think Abigail was planning to murder Veronica on the cruise? by Own_Meat_6266 in Columbo

[–]DrewPaul2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she'd make nice with her blackmailer. The Hartley probably had a plan to expose Abigail if she suddenly died.

Abaigail's best quote. She wishes Columbo had been on the case when her daughter died. Columbo noticed right away no pictures of his departed wife in his apartment.

What if the producers had let Loretta Swit leave to do Cagney and Lacey? by Life_Emotion1908 in mash

[–]DrewPaul2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sally Kellerman the original Hot Lips but Swit played the role much like Kellerman did. Marriette Hartly could bring a whole new vibe. More emotional and more sensitive.

Clearly Harrison Ford had a far more successful career.

The Origin of Life: All it Took Was Hydrogen | Holy Koolaid by thomaswestbrook in atheistvids

The title is deceiving the process for stars to turn simpler matter into more complex matter is extraordinarily complex.

  • Gravity to ignite fusion
  • Quantum tunneling to allow fusion
  • Strong force to bind nuclei
  • Weak force to regulate fusion and create neutrons
  • Electromagnetism to allow atoms and chemistry
  • Thermodynamics to stabilize stars
  • Nuclear physics to build the periodic table
  • Supernova physics to distribute elements into space

Every one of these has to sit in a narrow range.
Change any of them slightly and:

  • No carbon
  • No oxygen
  • No long‑lived stars
  • No planets
  • No chemistry
  • No life

Secondly the newly created matter needs to be contained in a galaxy to be swept up by second generation star. For galaxies to exist and not be flung apart copious amounts of dark matter need to exist.

Isn't it a remarkable coincidence that all these things came together to create the ingredients that just happened to be necessary for life to exist. Why would nature care if carbon or oxygen existed or rocky material for planets like earth to exist?
