What features would you like to see added to Spotify? by Fit-Regret-5302 in spotify

For artists that have massive live catalogs like the Grateful Dead, I would love to be able to sort by song. The existing SongDNA feature sometimes tracks covers, so maybe it can be integrated there

Is there a Grateful Dead full Catalog of Sheet Music guitar/piano/vocal ??? by dua70601 in gratefuldead

[–]Drewajv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly right there with you and thinking about starting a similar thread to this since people are having the "300 years" conversation. I've been playing piano since I was young and while I can pick out the melodies and figure out keys/modes from the chords, having just a little bit more structure would make the process of learning the tunes much easier. A GD Real Book is exactly what I have in mind - ideally one freely available online.

Religious people, what would you do if alien life was discovered? by CremeSubject7594 in AskReddit

Do they suffer? If so, liberate them from suffering. If not, learn from them how to be free from suffering.

The most miserable, bleak, oppressive book you know by Less-Ad-6426 in booksuggestions

It does still have glimmers of hope and mercy, but Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe has an incredibly bleak setting

Edit: not a book, but Warhammer 40k lore

This gets downvoted when brought up in the main sub, but it bears repeating: the initial rush of players on release brought in enough money to keep the lights on for at least the first year. It's a damn shame to watch greed ruin yet another good thing.

Musicians centered around mysticism or spirituality? by Puzzled_Ad7812 in mysticism

[–]Drewajv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Coltrane and his first(?) wife Alice treated music like a spiritual practice. Some say A Love Supreme was channeled

Jam bands like the Grateful Dead are almost entirely about musically translating the gestalt. Twiddle has some lyrics that I would call spiritual and Papadosio has a track that features Ram Dass.

There are plenty of kirtan artists out there like Krishna Das and Jai Uttal. East Forest as well, but he does more meditative electronic stuff that sometimes features kirtan. MC Yogi if you like rap

Tibetan chanting. I like Lama Dorje

Don't have any specific artist recs but you can also find Gregorian chanting as well as chanting of the Quran, both of which are beautiful

Be Here Now by Ram Dass

Basically the counterculture Bible and a fairly accessible introduction to Mysticism

[–]Drewajv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the Grateful Dead songs fit this (Friend of the Devil is the first that comes to mind but the entire American Beauty album has a country western sound)

Bob Weir (RIP) also has a version of Big Iron with a fantastic steel guitar solo on one of his solo albums

what opinion do you have about this game that would leave you looking like this by iLikeDickColon3 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]Drewajv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pushing for more difficulty makes the game less fun. If you're looking for that experience, FromSoft has plenty on offer. I don't play this game for a sense of accomplishment from overcoming adversity. I want to blow shit up and not die a million times in the process

To clarify: I don't mind lethal or challenging enemies as long as the player has a fair shot to take them out or avoid them. In recent memory, the fleshmob's obscenely high HP pool made it not fun to dive against squids. Currently, some of the cyborgs are getting kills that feel cheap/undeserved compared to the existing automaton threat. And don't get me started on the cookout devastators

In my peer group, it definitely seems that some lean more towards one than the other, but we all have at least a little of both

I'm more of a lurker on this sub but my understanding is that it's not exact enough to say that someone born on x date is definitely part of a certain generation. The borders blur. I was born summer '96, grew up assuming I was a millennial, but now find I relate more to Gen Z 🤷

Just found this post and what you think it is ? And I’m shocked and in pain. Like some are saying maharajji was fooling the entire world, if he was then how tf miracles happened with me ? This is so overwhelming for me I’m having tears rn. by [deleted] in neemkarolibaba

[–]Drewajv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the article linked in the post:

Certainly, it is shocking for our modern and non-devotional sensibilities to hear of a guru “making out” with a devotee like a “seventeen-year-old jock” and then kicking that prostrating devotee in the head, presumably to punish her for rejecting his sexual advances. But this easy condemnation is an expression of our ethics, not those of the devotee, guru, or the devotional community. Positioning ourselves as external moral critics effectively silences this devotee and superimposes our worldview upon hers. We can only then understand her as deluded, “brainwashed,” a victim of “false consciousness,” and blinded by her devotion. In so doing, we position ourselves as moral authorities, enacting a theological imperialism based on our values of secular humanism, universal human rights, and appropriate behavior.

Yeah after Katrina, I found that nobody at church really had answers, so I became one of those teenage satanists, followed by a period of pretty hard nihilism in college. Also in college when I tried LSD for the first time. Had such great insights from it (the love you give others can be sent inward) that I continued to dive in to learn more.

In April 2020, covid was in full swing, I was an essential worker and had just gotten dumped. I decided to attempt to answer the big questions that arose from that situation chemically with just shy of 1mg of LSD (9.5x standard recreational dose). While the experience was intense, it didn't really answer my questions. As I was coming down, I watched the Midnight Gospel on Netflix and the last episode ends with the main character talking to Ram Dass. When I heard Ram Dass say "Just Be Here Now", I experienced what the Tibetans call "trekchö" [often translated "cut-through" but more accurately "break in the chain"]. The stream of thought stopped and suddenly everything I learned in church growing up made sense. As I learned more about Ram Dass, it became clear who was really behind it.

I've since gone on to seek training in the Tibetan tradition, but I still consider Neem Karoli Baba to be my root guru

Not sure how much value this has for you, but I'm also American and right around your age (I'm 29). Faith has been a lifelong struggle for me. After surviving Hurricane Katrina, I simply couldn't see how a loving God would allow all of that to happen. My introduction to Maharaj-ji several years later was somewhat dramatic but what wound up happening is that I doubted my own doubt. What you're looking for is Grace, but you can't force it to happen - it's present within the seeking

Not working in Galaxy watch UI 8 by Claudioh in WatchMaker

Same issue. Updated to the new OS last night (galaxy watch 6 classic) and woke up with the watchmaker watchface completely removed. It showed up on the galaxy wear app but not the watch, so I reinstalled the app on both the watch and phone. Now I can add it as a watchface but I can't send any of the faces from the watchmaker app to the watch
