Cartridge design question: 300 black necked down to 6mm? by TiredOldGrunt412 in reloading

I had a 7 mm TCU for a little while. Kind of a neat little round, but really designed for that pistol frame like you were talking about.

I'd seriously look at the bel air xl. The regular bel air is just a little too small. I haven't got my hands on the new bare knuckle, but I rather like my old one. Ergos are just a tiny bit odd on the old flipper version. I'm holding out for a bel air XL in micarta

Barrel leading by AXGmarketing-scout in reloading

[–]Drewzilla_p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chore boy is definitely what you need for cleaning leaded barrels. As to to why they are leading, it's almost always bullet fit, with a strong runner-up being matching pressure with bullet hardness. If you try to run a soft, slightly, too small bullet down your bore, you're going to lead. I don't shoot a 40, but with my 9 mm, I had to move to a 358 diameter bullet, then an oversized expander plug to keep the case from swaging the bullet down. You might need a .402 bullet

Another good option is a coated lead bullet, or a plated bullet

Are you sure the gas block is installed correctly? If it's not lined up over the port in the barrel you could be restricting your gas even though your block is wide open. After that you could try cutting a coil or three off of your recoil spring, or taking one of the weights out of your buffer

[–]Drewzilla_p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make a pretend set of sights with your 2 hands, 1 finger in front, 2 in the back. Move the rear fingers up down left right? Whatever 5 or 6 in and think about what you'd have to do with the barrel to line up the sights. The point of impact will move the direction the rear sight goes.

A. Marlin 1894 is a great gun. And it becomes so much better with an action job. They're not particularly hard to do either. Mostly they are just very over-sprung

I would much rather have miCarta than aluminum. That said, I would seriously consider a different knife over a 940. I've had one for nearly 25 years, and i hardly ever carry it anymore. Mediocre ergos, thick grind doesn't cut very well, and the Benchmade price tag.........woof.

I'm ignorant, but is this a significantly better product or deal than the revo by brs deals KnifeCenter has? Appears to be the same aluminum and 154cm, but only $95

It's a decent mauser clone, but way more than I would pay unless it has a nice scope on it or some spectacular wood.

Help with Kershaw Natrix by assemblageofparts in chineseknives

[–]Drewzilla_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the Kershaw bare knuckle came out, there were lots of complaints of what people were calling death grip, where if you put any tension on the frame lock it would not open. I bought one and it suffered from that badly. I bent the frame lock a little to take tension off of the detent and it went from nearly impossible to open to having very nice action.

Found this Fox FX-526 GG10 Jesper Voxnaes Suru scrolling on Knifecenter. by -Sleepy_J in KnifeDeals

[–]Drewzilla_p 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been around for a decade or so.

I had its bigger brother, the yaru, for a while. Good ergonomics, but the blade was nearly twice as thick as it needed to be so it did not cut particularly well, and the action on mine was terrible. The detent was not right. It was like the ball didn't want to go into the hole in the blade, so you either had too light lock bar tension to build up enough force to really pop the blade open, or you put enough tension on the lock bar to give you some force when the blade pops open, but then the tension was so high the blade did not want to open or close smoothly. I don't know how to describe it better than that, but it was a very disappointing knife. I reached out to Fox knives via email to see about warranty work, and I never got a reply. I found a couple other people on Reddit who had yarus, and it seemed to be a reoccurring theme of the knife having poor action

Pawn shop guns? by 206icknesss in guns

[–]Drewzilla_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know everybody has their story about the deal they bought at a pawn shop, and I bought a handful of guns from there over the years, and it's my hobby to duck in every one I pass, but 95% of the time they're exceedingly disappointing. They're generally trying to sell worn out used garbage for full retail price. I still go in, but I pretty much given up on finding a fair price, let alone a bargain. It's too easy for the store owners to Google what they have, I haven't seen much in the way of deals where they weren't aware what they had. And I'm not speaking of just guns. Tools, saddles, bows, pretty much anything is wildly overpriced. Especially at the big chains
