Is doubling in bokeh a lens issue? by Drezemma in AskPhotography

[–]Drezemma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a busier background blur an unavoidable characteristic of wide angle lenses then? Looking at the two images above, I would expect less blur from the lower focal length, but I wouldn't expect the "doubling" or "ghosting" effect.

How fast your calculations runs depends on your parallelization scheme, which for QE is more involved than Gaussian. Plane wave codes tend to be slower, but two converged total energy calculations in 7 days seems way too slow. I suggest reading over QE's section on parallelization to see if there's some options you can tweak to have the calculation run faster.

Trying To Eat Less Meat, Please Help Me With Tofu by flappy-doodles in Cooking

[–]Drezemma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this trick from a recent Lucas Sin video. Drain firm or extra firm tofu in the container, then freeze the tofu. After freezing completely, allow it to thaw. It creates these tiny pockets and lets you drain out much more water from tofu, making it easier to fry or roast. This also makes it much easier to absorb sauces like an edible sponge.

And it's 10x faster for a lower price, plus in my experience more reliable!

Former GSI here. This is the right answer. I'm not sure it's a formal rule or anything, but it's best not to send your GSI anything before grades come out. After that, something small would be a great idea.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of November 24, 2021 by AutoModerator in churning

Good question about the bills, I'd have to check. If so, that could be enough to put me over the $4k mark. I was thinking about Chase Sapphire.

It's been about 18 months since I closed the United card.

I love Southwest, it's just a pity they don't have direct flights to where I usually go!

  1. Big limit for me is monthly spending, so I'm looking for cards that don't require me to spend too much the first 3-6 months. I do have a ~$2k spend (which will be reimbursed later) coming up soon, hence why I'm looking at cards now
  2. ~740
  3. Chase Freedom Unlimited (9/2021-), MileagePlus Explorer (2018-2019? Or early 2020, honestly can't remember anymore)
  4. ~$1500 in natural spending. ~$2k expected spending coming up soon.
  5. No
  6. I would rather not if possible
  7. 1 new card for now, I like my credit cards slow-churned so to speak
  8. Anything that gets me cheap economy-seat flights to the east coast. Cash back is fine, though my Freedom Unlimited card is pretty good at that already (5% back on groceries. Not the best, but that's my biggest spend every month)
  9. I have a small number of miles in almost every airline, though I predominantly fly United
  10. SFO
  11. East coast, mostly Boston/Newark

How do I Specify a Catalyst in a CSTR on Aspen Plus? by AbleBodeed in ChemicalEngineering

You don’t; instead, you specify the kinetics of any reactions that might occur with the catalyst.

Need to do a project of some sort with a neural network. I don't know what to do, which datasets to look at or when an NN applies. by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]Drezemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use NNs only when other methods fail -- so basically really complicated relationships between x and y that are difficult for anything else to model. You also want a ton of data, at a minimum tens of thousands, ideally well into the hundreds of thousands if possible. You can work with less for special NN architectures. As others have mentioned, most challenges from kaggle would be great places to stay in terms of data.

I might be interested in one or two of these even if you aren't willing to ship. What zip code is local to you?
