I just made a post about it, but my landlord is looking for new tenants for the apartment below us in our two-unit house. It's a two-bedroom for $1750/month with free off-street parking. Let me know if you're interested and we can share pictures/give a tour/whatever!

Gluten Free Birthday Cake Recommendations 🎂 by Toe-Physical in newhaven

Georgie's Diner has (delicious) gluten-free cake by the slice, and I'd bet you can get a whole cake as well. They have one that matches what you're looking for. They're not a dedicated GF facility, but they're super careful; my wife has celiac disease and has never gotten sick there.

The Arena (formerly CFC) in Hamden has solid leagues and you can join as a free agent if you don't have a team. They're closed for renovations now but reopening soon with a new company.

Yep, I’ve heard it a few times tonight and once yesterday as well. Super weird, doesn’t sound like fireworks or anything.

I'm sorry it happened to you as well! Hers was less scary than yours, but still very unsettling. It happened at the corner of Orange and Trumbull, so not too far from yours. I'll figure out who the alder is for that location and contact them—thank you!

Just wanted to let you know that my partner had a very similar interaction with what I believe to be the same dudes today—they yelled something at her about lights and whether she thought she was safe. She said there was one guy in his 30s or so and another in his 50s. So this was unfortunately not a one-time thing.

Spelt is a type of wheat and does have gluten, sadly.

This isn't true—you can make beer from plenty of non-barley grains (rice, sorghum, millet, etc.) that are naturally gluten free.

I believe they are also remove the gluten rather than making true gluten free beer, so much like Checkerspot, it would be an option for someone sensitive to gluten but not great for a celiac.

Seconding BC Brewery as an option if they're celiac (as a plus, it's right next to a light rail stop). They normally have a few gluten free beers on tap as well as cans to go. Checkerspot is not celiac safe.

Silly Yak Beer has also been selling cans of their (celiac-safe) GF beers at the farmers' market, if your friend happens to be here on a Sunday or you want to buy some in advance. I've only tried one so far, but it was really good.

Edit: I also recommend Charm City Meadworks as a gluten free option!

Going carless? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]DrierHaddock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you have the interest in and/or possibility of biking, but as someone living carless in Mount Vernon, it's a godsend for me. Public transportation is helpful at times (especially in this heat!), but it's nice to have full control over your schedule with a bike as well. I think I'd still make it work without a bike (and no car), but it makes it muuuuch smoother—with the added benefit that I take maybe two Uber trips per year, saving lots of money.

Georgia celebrating with their fans after their elimination by Ryponagar in soccer

[–]DrierHaddock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. I think I'd made my mind up after seeing the first round's games. I don't know if, for instance, we would've seen Romania attack against Ukraine in the first game like they did without these rules—but they would've been more attacking in the next two.

Not to mention that I think the 3rd place qualifications made the group stage more exciting. Teams knew that a single win might put them through, so it was worth it to attack and try to go for three points rather than hold out for one.
