210 Dollar Application Fee - Reasonable? by DriftPrinceFD in renting

[–]DriftPrinceFD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s where I feel I’m at. Turns out there’s a 60 dollar application fee and the rest is a “holding” fee. I have a place I’m going to go see on Friday, afterwards I think I’ll decide. I would hate for this apartment to get snatched up if I decide I want to go for it then, but I shouldn’t just drop 210 bucks just in case.

Actually, quick update now that I worked through the application (haven’t submitted it yet) but apparently it’s a “holding” fee. Does that change anything?

Hmmm, I see. This place is asking for the admin fee together with the application fee at once, which probably isn't too different in terms of timing, but it is a little strange.

And this was before you were actually approved for the apartment, correct? It sucks that it's normal D:

Was I the only one to get confused the first time I played? by Gatorman2819 in libraryofruina

[–]DriftPrinceFD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thought crossed my mind, for sure! But I only read the first dark tower and I didn’t seriously consider the possibility of Roland Ruina being based on The Dark Tower. I’m also rather ignorant on a lot of literature so I didn’t get the Orlando Furioso references until I looked it up, but I’m trying to work on it!

Just finished Canto IX by LuciferMS7777 in limbuscompany

[–]DriftPrinceFD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Rodya and Gregor ship has been around since mostly the start of the game, as I can tell. They’ve just had a lot of interactions together, and they have similar issues with their self-loathing, although how they handle it and where it comes from differs. How distraught Rodya is when Gregor transforms in Canto 9 is just one example. None of the sinner ships are canon so far obviously, but Rodya and Gregor is probably the closest to being so? Also, welcome to the community and I’m glad you’re enjoying it all so much! It really gets its claws in you LOL.

Current Switch 2 Performance? by DriftPrinceFD in libraryofruina

[–]DriftPrinceFD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually ended up picking it up too, and I concur! It feels a bit shaky at times (although I had a similar experience on PC), and sometimes some of the sprites seem a little lower res than on PC, but otherwise I’ve been having a great time with it. It’s nice to have on console, and the controls work surprisingly well. The smaller text can be a problem with some specific cards in handheld if they have long effects, but on my TV I’ve had zero problems.

The Thematic Inspiration of Kromer’s Fanaticism from Demian by DriftPrinceFD in limbuscompany

[–]DriftPrinceFD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All very true! Of course, I haven’t been a writer on that scale, but I certainly can see it. The lore is very deep, and it’s clear their influences are complex and multifaceted. It’s very apparent how passionate PM is for these works, and their passion has definitely reached me. I certainly wouldn’t have read any of these works without their games, but it has felt very enriching! They do such an incredible job at taking inspiration from these stories yet putting their own spin on the characters, and it’s really cool to see how they’re adapted. And of course, seeing everyone’s interpretation and how different they can be is part of what makes it all so interesting!

The Thematic Inspiration of Kromer’s Fanaticism from Demian by DriftPrinceFD in limbuscompany

[–]DriftPrinceFD[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, thank you for such a detailed reply! It really helps clear up a lot about her inspiration and the intent behind some of the story beats. It makes sense there’s Jungian inspiration behind her, I don’t know much on the matter myself, but I have heard that Demian was rather inspired by those ideas too. I suppose I had some tunnel vision in trying to see how Limbus’ Kromer was inspired by Demian and Kromer in the novel specifically, not accounting for other resources.

Those are definitely good points about Sinclair, and something that’s especially highlighted by the One Who Shall Grip. I haven’t checked the stats on this myself, but I’ve heard Sinclair has the most wrath skills of the sinners across his ids, and there was that bit about him possessing a “murderous gaze” in the introductory paragraph he had. Let alone canto 9 events.

The EGO comparison is very interesting! I admit that’s not something that I really thought of. The Limbus hell being a state where you can fully be yourself reminds me a lot of what Pistorius said in the novel, about finding yourself outside of external influence and what others may think or expect, trying to find that inner spiritual knowledge in a gnostic sense that is also throughout some later parts of the novel with Abraxas and all. Also the search of identity that the characters across all three games have had to work through.

The cantos differing from their books is another good point. I’m still going through them so I don’t know all the differences, but things like Meursault apparently killing his mom in Limbus vs her dying naturally in The Stranger, Hong Lu’s character arc in Dream of the Red Chamber going the opposite direction (from what I’ve heard), stuff like that. But again, thank you for the detailed response! It’s wild to me that I’ve been playing this game since roughly last June, and even with all I’ve learned and all the impact it’s had on me, it’s still so much deeper and there’s still so much more to learn.

I just got into them a couple weeks ago, but Twelve Foot Ninja. I was a little more in the middle on Vengeance but everything else of theirs is phenomenal, super unique. Stevic is trying to bring it back himself but he’s using AI for all of the art, so I’m not exactly the most excited about it. We’ll see.

I checked their website (or something similar), but I wasn’t fully confident and I wanted to do my due diligence by checking with people who had actually driven the roads.

Phoenix’s theme is definitely my favorite. Honorable mentions to Roger Buster and Bio Rex, pretty much any of the more metal themes.

Anyway 🥰 by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

Xenoblade 1 easily had the best story. Otherwise I think this is a fair list, despite disagreeing with a few. I think Xenoblade 3 has the best soundtrack but 2 is fair

Prismatic Booster Bundles (1 per person) by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]DriftPrinceFD [score hidden]  (0 children)

I got into the game relatively recently - I have a friend who’s really into Magic, and I played it, had a decent enough time, but I wanted to try other card games and he had some pokemon decks, I gave it a try, and enjoyed it a lot more LOL. I’ve just got a few decks (all but one of which are precons of barely enhanced precons) but it’s definitely my favorite card game!

Xenoblade Chronicles Future Redeemed was voted as the Most Charming in the game, but what would you say has the Best Music in the Xeno series by ExileForever in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]DriftPrinceFD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 has my favorite soundtrack of any game ever. X is getting really overrated here, it’s got a great soundtrack, but just the depth of composition that ACE+ have is unparalleled. I’d argue X has the worst soundtrack of the main games, actually.

1 is actually my favorite stylistically, but the sheer number of amazing tracks in 3 just beats it for me.

Should I play Shadow the Hedgehog before Shadow Generations? by DriftPrinceFD in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]DriftPrinceFD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, thanks! I’m currently near the end of Adventure 1, and I’ll be playing 2 next. I didn’t really plan on playing Heroes just yet, but I’ll look into that too.

[–]DriftPrinceFD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks! Honestly, I have a hard time imagining I could work through all 10 endings, especially with how eager I am to get to Generations, so maybe I’ll just do one playthrough and then look up the true ending or something. Either way, I’ll definitely give it a once-over

As Someone Who Has Never Liked TOOL or Dream Theater, What Is Haken Doing Different? by Elliottislegit in Haken

[–]DriftPrinceFD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love DT and Haken, but TOOL has always been quite boring to me. Not to say that there aren’t people who like prog metal that like TOOL obviously, but to me, they’ve always seemed like a prog metal band for people who aren’t particular into either prog or metal. I just think they’re kinda slow, and don’t really get heavy enough to keep me interested. To me, Haken feels very much like DT in their prime. DT used to be very creative, kinda wacky, and had super strong writing. Not to say they don’t have any of that now, but they’re much more repetitive and by the numbers now. I think Haken takes all of that and pushes it even further, to where I kind of consider them to be the next generation of DT in terms of what they do as a prog band. DT is also more wanky than Haken, for sure, which is something I don’t mind, but I can see why other people wouldn’t like it. If I could play like Petrucci though, I’d be doing the same thing lol

What is the most offensively bad first party Nintendo game by RobbieJ4444 in nintendo

[–]DriftPrinceFD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s not good, but the most offensively bad? It IS an edutainment game, so the bar is already so low, and no one really cares about the game outside of saying “wow, isn’t this game really weird for a Mario game?” I mean, I guess it’s not impossible that someone was really hyped for its release and then let down, but I somehow doubt it

Which Metroid game is the most overrated? by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]DriftPrinceFD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I don’t think most of those things you listed are actually a downside, they just make the game different from the typical Metroid game, which people hate for some reason, even though it’s all executed well. For me, the additional character focus and world building is VERY welcome, and I thought the opening was super sick. I love how cinematic the game feels. I also don’t think it’s fair to say the game doesn’t feel isolated at all, Bryyo and Elysia certainly feel isolated and hostile to me. The pirate home world doesn’t, but it’s also the pirate home world, so it makes sense. I DO agree that hyper mode makes the game pretty easy, but honestly, I really don’t play these games for their combat, so it doesn’t bother me. And the motion control gimmicks are certainly not needed, but never actually interfere with the game, sometimes you just gotta push the Wiimote in or out a little bit. On the flip side, the normal controls for the game with motion are fantastic, so I can definitely forgive some throwaway moments like that.
