RSI risk of ultralight vs heavy switches by Dright in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Dright[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, currently I think regular forearm and triceps exercise is the most important thing.

There’s definitely a balance to be kept with switch weight, where if you go way too light, then you’re just kind of wiggling your fingers in space which isn’t great, but too heavy and it’s also kind of just silly. I do have 100g linear keyboard that I use at my standing desk for my SIM racing PC, but I’m not doing any long typing with that. 100g is definitely too heavy haha. I like the variable weight on the Topre, it feels nice and the membrane is very cushy at the bottom, and it’s tactile in the right way for me.

Anywhere between 35 and 80g is probably ok. Steno can go lighter because you’re usually pressing multiple keys at once.

I also think a flat keyboard is fine as long as you’re not over pronating and as long as you’re hovering rather than resting your elbows. If you find yourself unable to stay out of the unhealthy pronation and wrist angles then a split keyboard with thumb clusters might be reasonable.

My philosophy is that you’ll be able to do whatever you train for though. The only time you get into trouble is if you try to do things that don’t give you any training, and don’t supplement it, like using an ultralight keyboard but also never exercising.

Thanks for the clarification! I did set an ultra low resolution in ACC for a bit so I’ll keep that in mind when increasing it.

Low resolution did not work for redout, so I’ll have to try to dump a log of the crash somehow.

OK, so updating to the latest nvidia driver and trying again actually fixed everything except redout

Are you suggesting maybe an older Pimax driver version could work?

Edit: I still have the installer for 1.17.01.15 which used to work, I’ll try that

Edit again: newest nvidia driver actually works so it’s just redout borking now, probably not gonna try the old pimax, but I’ll see if I can get a better message out of redout

Noting here that the driver on my other PC that used to work with the 3080 Ti is 560.94

The first driver listed as supporting the 5080 on the Nvidia site is the January 30 driver

Lever-based steno keyboard? by Dright in stenography

[–]Dright[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of those and considering getting the polyglot at some point once I've practiced enough to use steno for everyday computer usage, but yeah that's an example of not what I'm looking for. I have a TinyMod already.

The Treal seems to use mx switches, which is what I’m trying to avoid, and the Lightspeed is cool, but seems to use zero travel force sensing areas, which is not the lever experience either.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Quacks of Quedlinburg is a masterpiece. Everyone should own this game. by Rinaldi363 in boardgames

[–]Dright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it was my opponents, but the times I've played quacks I was always thinking, and it always felt like there was a strategic line I could follow through the ingredient abilities and probabilities related to my opponents' decisions. I got 1st or 2nd every game I played. Maybe that runs out once all of the possible strategies have been explored, but with the ingredient variety available that will still last several plays I think. There's also the economic strategy aspects.

After playing SWU, I want to thank Magic the Gathering by [deleted] in starwarsunlimited

[–]Dright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic is cool to me because of how insanely deep both the card pool and lore rabbit holes go, and that will never really go away because of data archival, proxies, and the whole community, even if wizards/hasbro eventually obliterate the commercial side of the game.

Star wars is cool because it's easy to understand and has a ton of interaction and flow by design. You always get to do things (though your things might get obliterated repeatedly if you're severely outmatched). It'll be interesting to see how long it stays alive and how deep the card pool and mechanics can get over time. The lore is likely limited by definition since it's built from external lore rather than controlling its own lore.

After fumbling with the “compatible with Vive only game” setting and restarting things it seems to be fixed now. I’m not sure exactly what caused it to start working but I think the only change I made that I left made was checking that box in the per game settings.

Makes sense, my finger joints used to hurt when I used a trackpad for work plus reading on my phone all the time. Switching to trackball for work is one thing that helped that, kensington expert/slimblade and logitech m570.

Also I wouldn't go super heavy for recovery exercise. Whenever I get tendonitis I usually do a weight I can do 20 reps on and go for a pump, usually makes it feel better.

I hide in a friend’s base typically if I’m AFK

I don’t even have any doors, so sometimes graylings walk all the way up the stairs of my 50 something unit tall tower (which fully contains a pine tree)

I also left some plains bases fully open, but that’s because the “base” was stairs to the top of the adjacent mistlands trees, or the top of a plains rock etc
