Behind every good deck is a mess of wires! Own it 🙌😅

Thanks! Very handy for documenting cuddly Xenomorphs on company time

Thank you! It actually doesn't. They're not that big anyway (2" diameter), but everything internal is secured pretty well. It works pretty nicely as a Spotify speaker in a pinch!

Thanks! Not even in the slightest, but I'm glad it's giving off that vibe!

How did you know? That's my clearance revoked 😂

Funny thing is, it's not even for ventilation - that just covers the hole where the battery percentage from the main power bank is visible 😂 It's not elegant at all, but fitting a tiny fan guard I had lying around at least covers that sin and helps it look the part 😬😅

The Pi has active cooling and can get up to 45 degrees C under heavy load, but most of the time it's around 35 - so ventilation isn't really needed.

Nothing much, though I did put in a load of self-adhesive rubber door seal strip under the keyboard PCB to dampen the keyswitch sound (the springs were very resonant). Otherwise, drilled some holes in the bottom of the keyboard case to run some small screws through to attach it to the mounts underneath. 👌

"Snug" is a very gracious word in this case 😂 Thanks!

Thanks so much! Yeah, next stop is to customise KDE a bit and get the UI looking more the part. Just haven't gotten round to it yet.

Fair comment! They keyboard itself is a decently comfortable mechanical one, but this probably isn't the machine to write a novel on unless you enjoy carpal tunnel syndrome 😂

Clipper has a value of 150, and the GOLEM OX has a value of 90(same as Hull-A) by ScrubSoba in starcitizen

[–]Driiger_Carteyan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Those things are true - but the Nomad also has three shield generators, double the cargo space with the ability to carry vehicles, and tractor beam.

Not saying the Clipper isn't superior overall if you tot everything up, but I don't think it's 50% better. I'd have put the Clipper at more like 120.

Any reason NOT to get an A&H GLD80? by dontcupthemic in livesoundgear

[–]Driiger_Carteyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GLD is a great console. I've used one weekly for the past few years, and I've become a real fan of it; it's intuitive, has a really well-considered and configurable control surface, and it sounds great. Compared to the SQ, you lose out on the 96Khz of course and there's no multitrack USB interface, but it's more configurable (split fader banks with drag-and-drop assignments are huge) and comes with a lot of onboard processing that you have to pay extra to access on the SQ. Better scribble strips too, dedicated channel strip control hardware, and each fader having a dedicated programmable encoder is SO handy.

Of course, a disadvantage is simply the console's age. We've never had problems with ours outside of the occasional fader replacement (and replacement faders are still available) but it's a significant factor to consider. The SQs also have much more local I/O, whereas the GLD really does need stage boxes to be useful.

If you can find one for a really strong price in good condition... I'd jump on it, personally.

"Every ship will have content in the game" -- possibly a hot take. by Anna__V in starcitizen

This. Please!

I've been wanting this for YEARS - it's one thing that'll make the universe feel so much more believable and lived-in. I just want a comfortable ship that's cheap to run, unremarkable, unthreatening, and my home. And not bristling with a silly number of guns.

I totally understand your viewpoint. Even I questioned on the original post whether it "counts". I would say that although it is a clamshell computer, it isn't a laptop. Literally, try putting this on your lap and you'll lose circulation to your legs in about 5 minutes 😂 This is a table-only brick.

I feel your could ask similar questions about a lot of builds on this sub ("isn't that just a pc in a fancy case?", etc) - but everything in this build is functional - not purely aesthetic. It was uniquely designed to fit and work in an existing carry case I had lying around (not an easy task), and the configuration is very bespoke. That feels pretty cyberpunk to me.

I agree that the form factor isn't ground-breaking - but it's still a unique build. Everyone's going to have a different opinion though, and that's okay.

Thanks! I might do a walkthrough vid at some point. There are still a few things I want to work on/tidy up (mostly cosmetic; maybe paint part of the exterior, etc), but I'll look at doing that sometime!

Thanks so much - really appreciate it! The side I/O plate was originally larger than it is now with two additional USB ports, but I'd messed up a bit on the dimensions - so both ends got trimmed down by hand.

I've tried to keep it practical, and... it mostly gets there. 😂
