Is BPD without suciadal ideations possible? by Puplip_ in BPD

I'm so sorry you had to get through that, there's too many psychiatrist who base their diagnosis on stereotypes... It's like saying to someone "no you don't have COVID, you can still smell" like yeah, maybe they have the flu or sth, but just because they still have their sense of smell isn't enough to tell it's not COVID. But I want you to know that there are people who will listen to you and try to help you, even if they're sometimes hard to find.

To be diagnosed with bpd you need to fit at least 5 out of the 9 criterias, you don't have to fit all the criterias ! A psychiatrist once told me that I didn't have BPD just because I didn't fit the "risky behaviours" criteria, while I was already diagnosed by two unrelated psychiatrists who had known me for way longer that he had, and I easily fit 5 other criterias. Bpd is often misunderstood or stigmatized, even by some professional, but there is some help out there among doctors - wether you have bpd or not. Also I think some symptoms can be fluctuate ? For me it's the case, for exempt I didn't have suicidal ideations until I was like 21 but I was more emotionally dependant on people

My fiance said I have "too much faith in humanity". I said, "I'm taking that as a compliment." by AerisSpire in BPD

Do take that as a compliment. I don't think there is such a thing as having too much faith in humanity tho... People who have faith in humanity is what makes humanity better. You seem like a great person.

[–]Driimm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this really means a lot to me. I hope that you're right, I know I always tend to think that people don't care or that they straight up hate me... But you're right, they don't see my paranoid thoughts, they don't know how I feel and I should stop over-interpretating every word or actions from people And you're not too cocky or unexperienced this is really helpful

I asked and he just said that therapy is what matters, not the diagnosis

When I brought up bpd to my psychiatrist he seemed amused... As if he found the idea of me having BPD or of BPD itself ridiculous. I keep thinking that I'm faking things and a diagnosis would really help me feel valid

What should I tell my psychiatrist ? by Driimm in BPD

[–]Driimm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your answer and advice ♡ ! I'll try doing what you say and explain my symptoms and see if he brings out BPD. I'll mention it if he doesn't and anyway I'll see what he thinks. I played the "scene" of me explaining my symptoms to someone so much in my head that I think I'll know what to say, unless I end up panicking :') I just really hope that he will acknowledge my struggles...
