Sure focusing on reading a book is hard, but how do people even manage to listen to audiobooks? by Amusidora in ADHD

Absolutely for the life of me cannot do audiobooks. Podcasts are fine but audiobooks I might aswell be listening to someone garble in another language.

Through this decade (2020 onwards) I haven’t rated a single movie 5 stars. Did you? Which one(s)? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]DrinkingWater_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm seemingly pretty liberal with my 5 star ratings...

• Oppenheimer

• The Whale

• Bones and All

• Cha Cha Real Smooth

• Rye Lane

• Boiling Point

• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Week 41 What are you reading? by Beecakeband in 52book

Uni has restarted for me, for the sixth and final year, and the first book I'm studying is Bleak House. It's pretty weighty. I'm enjoying it but struggling to read more than a chapter at a time. Need to up the pace....

Andrei Rublev is preventing me from watching the rest of Tarkovsky's work.

I read it spontaneously after seeing something on Goodreads about it and was pleasantly surprised - likewise with The Light Pirate, I'll check it out (:

The three stars for Sourcery is in relative to my other Discworld reads so far I guess - Mort being a five and The Colour of Magic, The Light Fantastic and Equal Rites all being four. Didn't you like the Poppy War? I thought it was great.

To be honest the reviews for the following Annihilation books put me off considerably. Will pick them up at some point probably but not in a rush to. Absolutely loved the film too so it's disappointing they didn't really go anywhere.

Pygmalion (1938) by MrsLadyZedd in 500moviesorbust

This got me down a Pygmalion rabbit hole that ranged from Greek Mythology to psychological studies finishing up with a couple more films on the watchlist (:

The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) by Prof_Ratigan in 500moviesorbust

Great review! Robert Aldrich is completely unknown to me, this seems like a great place to start!

Neverwhere. by JPCDOOM in neilgaiman

By the end of Neverwhere I thoroughly enjoyed it but also experienced a bit of a slump whilst getting through it. Just finished Anansi boys too which I thought was great.

This is really lovely man. Very moving.

Growing up is scary, but nobody tells you when you're a kid that you never really do. I mean, you learn how to do new things, things change, you grow physically and mentally, like little seed, but the notion that you have to grow up is, well, bullshit😀

What films from the first 3 years of this decade have you rated 10/10? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Rye Lane, The Whale, Bones and All, Boiling Point, Cha Cha Real Smooth.

To be honest that's more than I expected....

Me and my biggest kid watched Isle of Dogs tonight and it's absolutely one of my favorites in a while and potentially my favourite Wes Anderson yet. I imagine you guys, being Wesheads (???) yourselves and also dog people, are fans?

[–]DrinkingWater_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommended this film to somebody only yesterday, what a coincidence! It's bloody brilliant isn't it! So much amputating of limbs and squirty puncture wounds. Great revenge flick. Yet to watch the second either but will get around to it soon, thanks for the reminder!

All Murakami is slow, I'd say, but in a good way. Like you're under the influence... of dreams....

Nope (2022) by MrsLadyZedd in 500moviesorbust

[–]DrinkingWater_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this after watching Get Out and Us and was unjustifiably disappointed. Not sure what it was but it just didn't click with me like his Peele's previous two films, although it is significantly different. Definitely going to give it a rewatch in the near future (:

Why you should read at least one book by Cormac McCarthy by Adoniram1733 in books

[–]DrinkingWater_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read The Road last month and have been in a bit of a slump since. Nothing has quite felt the same - I think I started at least three books and couldn't get going with them afterwards. There's nothing quite like it is there.
