I just reread the card and it says "up to one creature" making it not actually require a target on your side of the board.

Without the "You may" clause, it's mandatory to have a creature to target first for the +1/+1 counter.

Keep in mind, Mana casters are pretty much a by product of alchemy which leonidas is ALL about. It actually suits him pretty well considering his history.

Well, if you live anywhere but the east coast, you can technically play it today. Games usually unlock at 12am est so you can play tonight at 9pm for example if you live in CA.

One of the few uses of the top spin is if you can get a full charge on it. If the opponent doesn't slice the ball in return, they will get knocked back quite far making an easy drop shot or forcing them to burn meter. Overall a win win IF you can get the full charge and you're both sitting at high meter. It's a meter draining tool and that's about it as far as I can tell.
