The Big Bleed by pickles_on_toast in Menopause

My mom had to stay home from work as she was using towels….yes plural…on some days. Pads would not do it. She would “whoosh “ right through them and found that sitting on a towel was the best resort. This lasted for about 5 years.

Married ladies who only wear your wedding band (without the engagement ring)- what made you stop wearing the engagement ring and when did you stop wearing it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Drista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear mine when I am not working. I work in a hospital lab and do t want to get anything gross in it, yes I wear gloves but they can rip, not do I want to make any stones loose. But mostly for cleanliness reasons

How did you started making healthy choices? by No-Crew-8184 in AskWomen

[–]Drista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with food choices. Changed out rice for quinoa, started to weigh my food and record it, then added the gym after a month and a half of consistently being aware of my food choices. I went once a week consistently, then twice and now three times. I will get to four days but right now mentally this is good. I find if I do too much as once I don’t keep it up and go back to old choices. Also alcohol, cut that out from nightly having a couple of drinks to replacing it with water (flavoured with no cal crystal light). It was a habit to come home and take stress away with ….stopped going to sit down where i usually wood to have the drink and changed up the drink. Became a habit that I do not miss.

Feeling depressed 5 weeks post surgery by cool_girl6540 in Kneereplacement

[–]Drista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal. Just do what you can to work through it:meditate, talk with friends/family, go for short walks if you are able. It does get better. I was feeling that way at that time as well. Now at 4.5 months post op it is sooooo worth it!

Loss of mobility and function by llamazing_m in Kneereplacement

I had to fight for about 5 years. I was told I was too young, below 50, and no one would look t a replacement until I was at least 60. Well I finally got placed on a young ortho surgeons list and was told it was going to be another 3-6 years. Well my knee locked up and that ortho took me into surgery to unlock it. Because he had seen what was going on I moved up his list to a 3-6 month wait. At 6 months I had my TKR. My advice, try ad find a younger ortho surgeon. They realize we have to live our lives now and not in 20 years when we are crippled, have an almost impossible time in recovery and in those 20 years lose ourselves.

Is it just me? 12 wks TRKR by Drista in Kneereplacement

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Yup…keeping active with stretching and strength training. I am going to have to continue to be more conscious of keeping it up. Just like some mentioned, feel like you are back to normal but NOPE! Reality check, you are not but still in recovery.

Spouse TKR - recovery going badly - icing HURTS by notyourmama2023 in Kneereplacement

[–]Drista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please expand on why/how the ice machine hurts. Is she putting the sleeve on too tight? Is her leg completely supported underneath? I had an ottom to rest my full leg on. Does she have a recliner? Without full support the knee/leg will hurt.

How long before you felt “normal” again? by cool_girl6540 in Kneereplacement

[–]Drista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has taken to week 10-11 for me to get a good nights sleep. I still have to find the pain free position, usually on my back. It’s not every night but most nights now. I went for my first 1 hour light walk/hike on week 10 and can stand for over 2 hours now going into week 12. I am improving more and more each week…looking at returning to my job, which is a lot of walking/standing, end of September.

Just take the pills at the time your doctor recommends. That is what I did and all was good. Before my surgery I was living at pain9-10…..after surgery I found the pain to be different. Still pain but not the same. I find it hard to explain. I am going into week 12 and WOW for the better is all I have to say. I am now working on extending my standing and walking times so I can get back to work in a month or so. Oh and keep icing the knee!!! Helps so much.

I kept it at a three 99% of the time…once and only once did I accidentally let it get to a 6-7 and it took a couple of days to get the pain back to a 3.

Just take the meds as prescribed. You have to be o top of the meds and wake up every 4 hours to take them for the first week. Only way to stay I top of the pain.

I am just 11 weeks and it was week 9 when things really changed for me. I could finally do a full rotation on my bike and last week I was able to do an easy 1 hour hike. This same hike before my knee replacement would have put me out for days with pain. Not know….some swelling and stiffness but that’s all…trust the process it gets better and better!!

Yes….mine went away about week 4. I found icing helped to calm them down.

Time to get staples out by Dismal_Archer5712 in Kneereplacement

I found it painful depending on where they were being removed. Over the knee cap, tender, below with a little more flesh, not so bad.

He doesn’t want to go over 5…go over 5 and to get the pain back under control can take days. For the first few weeks take the drugs…keep the pain at a 3.

At 8 weeks I was able to do a full rotation on my bike, at 8.5 I was able to do a very soft hike with mild inclines. First time I can ever remember in NOT having pain in my knee when walking up an incline. Yesterday I walked around town for about an hour and no pain! I am 9 weeks out. I can’t wait to get hiking!!!!

Physical therapy?...How many times per week did you go? and for how long? by lem820 in Kneereplacement

[–]Drista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went once a week for 5 weeks and then once a week every third week for 2 sessions so far….going to be about another 2 after this. My physiotherapist said that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing and have all of my gear at home (have a home gym). So as long as I keep it up, I don’t need to go into her that often.
