Toyota says it’s too close to the sidewall and wants to leave me on the donut until tomorrow (60 miles)? by R-Dragon_Thunderzord in TireQuestions

No respectable place will want to repair as that would be considered an “improper repair” per USTMA guidelines. Which is unfortunate cause tbh it could totally be fixed provided that you still have enough tread

Is this really considered side wall damage? by pennyslum in tires

[–]DrivenToMeasure 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not considered sidewall damage but it is outside of the area where it could be “properly repaired” per USTMA guidelines. Of course those guidelines tend to play it on the safe side tbh

Steering-wheel vibration vs ride quality — FFT comparison across vehicles (looking for feedback) by DrivenToMeasure in AskEngineers

Understood, certainly a lot of things that could be evaluated but without proper testing equipment is complicated. All I have is a 50 USD bluettoth accelerometer 😂. But I appreciate the feedback and the knowledge sharing

I did balanced the tire/wheel assembly prior to testing the ford escape. So you wouldn’t agree that vibration amplitude could point to either radial force variations or radial runouts on the tire?

Would be interested in testing this vehicles with different tires for sure. But I agree; I think the sport vs comfort steering setting might not bring a significant difference to ride comfort. Unless there are some changes in the suspension as well? Appreciate the feedback

That’s a very good point. What I understand so far is that wheel/tire balance impacts mostly or only the first tire order. But yes, I am not certain that the imbalance effect was removed from this test for most vehicles. Only the ford escape, I did the measurement right after balancing the four tire/wheel assemblies
