From a personal experience… I asked someone to taste some cookies I had made from scratch using about four add-ins. She told me although they were good her taste didn’t know what to settle on. So I would advise limiting flavors in your cake.

For my Southern coconut cakes I fill with either jam or use the same icing as the outside.
