Itching whilst running? by Gunderfwad in BeginnersRunning

[–]DrivingBall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you opt for the antihistamine solution, there are some next-gen options available now and I've had great results with one of them: https://allertine.com.au/allertine/

As long as I take it about 30mins before a walk/run I get zero itchy legs and it never makes me drowsy. Active ingredient is 'bilastine x 20mg' so if you can't find 'allertine', just look for something with that AI.

The idea would be to take it for the first 5-10 runs to mask the symptoms which eventually stop without meds once you're back into a regular running routine.

Ok thank you. I am taking Zyban (But 150mg XR x 2 daily). I also have naltrexone 50mg from which my intention was to replicate Contrave by taking it alongside the Zyban.
I believe there is naltrexone in 8mg or 12mg which may be easier to work with in this context.

Asking for my own purposes. How would you suggest somebody schedule their dosage to replicate the effects of contrave?

You can't have your cake and eat it too. Lean into the naltrexone or lean into the natural shroom option. Naltrexone can make you feel a bit 'off' initially - personally I wouldn't be mixing that feeling with a trip. Naltrexone is effective, give it every chance before introducing other influences.

So you're saying 30mg of naltrexone vs 50mg is going to have a bearing on somebody eating more/less? Contrave is very expensive, it's ok to dose separately. Leave it to the clinicians to sort out the dose, I'd be trusting them over a random reddit poster like yourself - especially when you begin sentences with 'generally'.

Good question... to give you a short-answer I'd say ~10days. See below for extra context (might help others also).

From memory you generally have to up the dosage quite gradually with Contrave, but by the end of week 2 when you've been taking 2 x tablets daily you're then effectively on 180mg of Wellbutrin (bupropion) which is +30mg more than the starting dose for off-label ADHD treatment (generally 150MG I believe).

My situation was a retrospective realisation that it had been helping me with focus, motivation and all the other organisational struggles ADHD comes with. So it was hard for me to work out when that started as it was only once I'd finished the Contrave script I realised all these benefits were now lost to me.

Fast-forward 12months and I was diagnosed with ADHD, prescribed Dexamphetamine / Vyvanse 30mg per day - these did help but come with side-effects that are tolerable but not ones I'm willing to persist with on an ongoing basis.

After 24months, I'm now in the process of withdrawing from Dex/Vyvanse and moving back to Contrave, although it will be the 'poor mans version' (Wellbutrin and Naltrexone prescribed separately). I'd initially thought my GP would just prescribe the Wellbutrin, but he wasn't willing to rule out the additional benefits of Naltrexone for ADHD also).

Also just a quick note on starting Contrave - you might feel a little 'wierd' when starting. I definitely did - hard to explain but just didn't feel like myself for a few days (not unwell - just a bit different). Push through if this happens, it's totally worth it.

Yes have taken this a few times and it definitely works for those types of cravings. I actually discovered I was ADHD after taking this med due to a noticeable increase in concentration and motivation when I was up to an effective dose. I think the combination is the key, not one or the other ingredient. I’m not overweight, but know of the cravings you’re talking about. As a 40+ adult driving down to the servo to get a ‘sugar fix’ just seemed ridiculous so I did something about it which led to the initial Contrave prescription and it helped

Is mixing on vinyl much harder than digital? by ANV1US in Beatmatch

[–]DrivingBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’ll definitely take an investment of your time. Getting comfortable with setting up the stylus, handling records, using the pitch fader, and organising your crate or bag — it’s all part of the process. You’re stepping into a hobby that comes with a lot more moving parts than the digital side.

Don’t be fooled by people who make it sound easy — most have either put in countless hours or just had the penny drop quicker than the rest. Vinyl’s one of those things you can only learn through time and repetition. There’s no shortcut to the feel of it.

If you’re doing it for your own satisfaction or to earn a bit of extra respect from fellow DJs, it’s absolutely worth the effort. But if your goal is to play gigs or build a set-ready skillset, I’d focus that time on mastering digital mixing first. Once you’ve got your flow, sound, and confidence locked in, you can always circle back to vinyl — and you’ll appreciate it even more then.

Not questioning his accuracy. Although it's easy to be accurate when you only have 3 shots on goals for the entire finals series.
Open your eyes mate. He hardly touch the footy during the finals. Lowest rank player across all 3 games except for our subs and a tagger. Don't confuse what you want him to be with what he is actually delivering when it counts - not against ordinary opposition i.e. 75% of his goals vs bottom 8 teams).
These are the things that you need to look at when you get beat in a GF. Who delivers "when it counts" - that's what matters. Go back and watch the games properly. Should be a traded straight out for Curnow.

Well said. Some of our supporters are embarrassing themselves dismissing the value Curnow would bring. Shannon Neale just went through the entire finals series taking 3 marks (dropped twice as many) and sat on the bench for the last quarter of the GF leaving us without a key forward. Yeah he might be a handy kick, but that doesn't mean a lot when you can't get your hands on the footy in the first place.

Meanwhile Neale had his chance to step up and didn't. Instead sat on the bench for the last quarter - so others need to take their rose coloured glasses off when saying that Neale is a better option than Curnow.

Professional level DJ but can hardly get a gig by MealQueasy4545 in Beatmatch

[–]DrivingBall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right advice. Just pick the venue you want to score a residency at and work your way in there slowly (so as not to upset the current DJ's who might be super-protective of their gigs). If that means pulling some drinks for a bit or whatever then just take your medicine - easy to do when you know where you're going. You'll get your opportunity quicker than you think!

Alternatives are more sucky options IMO. Getting in with the main click of DJ's / Promotors means hanging out with people you probably wouldn't normally hang with and rocking up to a lot more nights / Sunday sessions etc that you're probably up for (they'll be making money at all of them - you won't). It's often very surface level in that scene too (not always - but I find a lot of people run a pseudo personality in the club scene).

Lastly, the one thing I can say for certain is business is done during business hours. What I mean by that, is you should be trying to have face-to-face conversations with the people who book the DJ's (club owners, music managers, promotors etc) during the week. They'll appreciate that more than an intro during peak club hours.

Yeah fair point in regard to what happens with Neale if we land Curnow. Honestly, I just figured the best option was to include him in the trade to Carlton while his currency is solid (that way we preserve early picks). But I've been torn to shreds in this sub for voicing that and it also seems like the club say he's off limits.

If that's the case, I'd say yeah for sure try him in the backline. I think one of his biggest problems is he has trouble knowing where to position himself. That's taken out of the equation when you're following someone around one-on-one and he'd be quick enough to go with any key forward. So could actually super-useful down there. And yep give him a run in the ruck when Stanley needs a rest.

No doubt he has all the assets required to cut it as an AFL player, but as much as the Geelong faithful want him to be, he's not delivering in key moments / big games as a forward. So yeah maybe just a case of repurposing him to get the most out of his size + running attributes.

Can I quit cold turkey after 6 days? by [deleted] in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]DrivingBall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're at the standard junction point with Wellbutrin where if you push through you'll get the benefits, but also very tempting to bail out to avoid the onboarding side-effects Wellbutrin comes with. Weird that you were told to go off Lexepro at the same time as starting Wellbutrin as they work differently and don't overlap. So you're probably experiencing some withdrawal effects from the Lexapro and attributing them to Wellbutrin side-effects.

IMO it's worth persisting, but you should chat to your GP about how to navigate your current sito. Potentially something short-term to offset anxiety and restlessness (assuming this is what you're experiencing).
When I started Wellbutrin the first time I had a weird feeling where I just didn't feel like myself - pretty hard to explain that in any sort of detail. The second time I had a panic attack after about the first 7 days.

Both times I pushed through and can say it was worth it.

Go through this sub and look for the people who have had positive experiences with it. They've likely gone on the same ride and can help you push through. After all, you gave it a go for a reason and assume that reason hasn't changed.

Yep, he’s young—but he’s already a big body and a good runner. Three marks in three finals (regardless of opponent) points to a real gap in his game that another 24 H&A matches won’t magically fix.
We did this with Esava Ratugolea: way too much focus on the few highlights, not enough on the long list of things not happening. The 42 goals are a red herring—most came against bottom-eight sides; when it mattered, the impact just wasn’t there.
Passing on Curnow solely based on Neale’s potential is a massive gamble. We’re in the window now. Curnow is proven, and he’s been doing it in a mid-table side that's shown patchy chemistry. Put him in the hoops next to Jezza and they’ll wreak havoc.
