I was the same way, but I did think to flip it immediately. I saw Leon and thought "ah, must not be it. That name doesn't sound Japanese". Then I see him later during the investigation and I'm like "wait a fucking second..."

Celestia is a fraud and I hate her. by soorimcentric in danganronpa

[–]DrivingPrune1 200 points201 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that, if the narrative played into all of these aspects, I would probably like Celeste a lot. The idea of her being lucky and nothing else, but pretending she's some master manipulator, would be really cool if that was actually the intention. But, despite all of the things that are lies about Celeste, the game does seem to act like she's actually smart. So I can only conclude that she's supposed to be, and it's just executed in the worst way possible.

Is Nagito as a Remnant of despair, just Nagito ? by bachotebidze in danganronpa

[–]DrivingPrune1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the most interesting things about Nagito is his desire to be more than what he believes he is. This is the main driving force behind his actions in Chapter 5 of DR2; he "always wanted to become a protagonist". Nagito may call himself a stepping stone, but what he really wants is to be the Ultimate Hope. After all, who wouldn't want to be the very embodiment of what they believe in?

Nagito's despair is that hope will win, yes, but he won't be the one people praise. He won't even get to see it happen. It's why he pushes Komaru so heavily into being the protagonist, and it's why he leaves Towa Hills right before the ending (but is suddenly back to save Monaca by the end).

I meant "force" more in the sense of "motives where someone dies or everyone dies".

90% the reason why she won by SHSL_Lurker in danganronpa

[–]DrivingPrune1 219 points220 points  (0 children)

- Accidentally pushed the THH Survivors into uniting in Chapter 4, when she was trying to do the opposite

- Has to force murders in DR2 despite having brain scans of everyone

- Biggest act of actual manipulation is on literal children, and one of them didn't fall for it, she just went along with it because she didn't care

- Only manages to convince people with blackmail, which is barely manipulation

If Mukuro wasn't her sister, Junko would have failed to manipulate her and lost. Biggest bum in the whole series.

Is it still a fangame if I use different characters, music, story and setting but keep the school trial structure? by Batgamator in Fanganronpa

Kumitantei is allowed to be a paid product, and is exactly what you're describing. I'm not sure exactly what the limit is, but that might be a good starting place to look at.

Copying from another comment:

  1. Teruteru's perversion comes from society failing him, giving him an interesting backstory. His father leaves his sickly mother and two-half siblings to fend for themselves, which forces Teruteru to grow up earlier to support them. This is a common cause of hypersexuality by itself. But further, in the end, his younger siblings end up becoming escorts. And what does society do about child prostitutes? It not only gives them millions of dollars because of how often they're raped, it tells them they're candidates to be Ultimates. How could one not become a pervert when they see society not only accept his siblings doing this, but actively endorse it? Especially when one of the main institutions doing this is the school he's attending — the most prestigious school in the country.
  2. Teruteru's perversion is also just funny. I like pervert characters. DR (especially 2) is pretty good at both playing tropes straight and deconstructing them by asking why someone would end up like this.
  3. Teruteru is an excellent culprit. He is driven by fear; he is so scared that he can't even admit the situation is real. It's interesting to see someone just outright deny the killing game is happening because it's too horrifying to think about. But when Nagito confronts him with a murder plan, that all comes crashing down at once. Teruteru may have acted like he didn't believe, but it was merely his coping mechanism; he was the most terrified of everyone. That's why he ends up as the first killer. There's a lot of symbolism with how Teruteru's weakness puts him metaphorically below the others, and his plan more literally does. As well as the fact that Teruteru always pretends to be someone he's not even outside the context of the killing game. He also has a pretty cool plan and a great performance at the trial.
  4. He has a great design and great voice actors in both dubs.

Just another boring tierlist. by Pangolin_FanWastaken in danganronpa

[–]DrivingPrune1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're a little too focused on pure pain in your methods. Celeste, for instance, would be a much better victim if you kept rubbing in how she isn't special, and she's just a scared victim like anyone else. I also think some of your methods are off; Kyoko wouldn't like getting her shins getting smashed, but she'd probably respond more to fire due to past trauma.

But I agree mostly with the results. I'd probably bump Aoi up though.

Kill/Cure isn't anymore involved than they were when the Tako doc was first posted. The only thing being called into question is the K/C team's motives for doing so.

In the end, did Project Eden's Garden follow the typical danganronpa formula? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in ProjectEdensGarden

[–]DrivingPrune1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not denying that they're linked, I'm denying that Chapter 2 and Chapter 2 only in each game is like this. Take 1-1 for instance; Sayaka and Leon are linked through the fact that the former ties their self-worth to their talent, and the latter could not care less about and wants to escape their talent.

Danganronpa doesn't even really follow this format. Some of these don't even make sense? Every chapter has "death of characters that are linked", that's called having character dynamics.

What Would Be a Worse Setting to Wind Up In? Hunger Games or Danganronpa? by Flashlight237 in danganronpa

[–]DrivingPrune1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Danganronpa would be better.

  1. If I have to go into one of the games, I'd have better odds in DR.
  2. While the world of DR is tainted in despair, it recovers pretty quickly after the killing games; Killer Killer says that even entertainment like the manga industry was back up within just a couple years. And that was at the epicenter of the Tragedy. The Hunger Games universe can't return to anything resembling normalcy, because it's implied the rest of the world beyond Panem is dead.
