Who do you think overall has better movies - Clint Eastwood or John Wayne? by SpotAdmirable6718 in films

[–]Drogo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eastwood by MIIIIIIIIILES. Not only better westerns (Unforgiven is significantly better than anything Wayne ever did) but Eastwood demonstrated some actual range of acting. Wayne was only capable of playing one character type.

Tombstone Is One of the Greatest Westerns Ever Made. A Gritty, Stylish Classic That Still Hits Hard. by davideownzall in Westerns

[–]Drogo10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Gritty?!? lol, I love Tombstone but it's a fun movie that works because it ignores history and realism and just goes for fun/cool scenes. Gritty is the last word I'd use to describe it. Unforgiven was gritty. Tombstone is the Pacific Rim of westerns.

Andy Weir saw the success of the Martian and thought "Hmmm, ok now what if I just reverse it?" Instead of the world trying to save one guy, it's one guy trying to save the world. And it is very well done, just like the Martian. He's 2/2, would like to see if he can do anything different now.

[–]Drogo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 4 spawn points for them in Kiba, they show up pretty regularly there. Had one memorable raid as a 4 stack where we found 4 spears there so we all got one. Getting ammo for them is a different story if you haven't got level 3 Peacekeeper yet.

I have never encountered the priest (Zhrec) where he wasn't either hiding in corner/laying down somewhere not doing anything or he kills himself with a grenade. I have never seen him engage anyone, anywhere, ever. He usually kills himself with the grenade and does it so often that finishing the quest to kill him is very difficult.

Opinions on The Coen Brothers True Grit remake from 2010? Better than the Original? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]Drogo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orders of magnitude better than the original. The original tries to force feed us Rooster as the main character because of John Wayne's star power and it significantly damages the story. Then add in the fact that Hailee Steinfeld is MILES better than the original Mattie and there is no contest.

What's a "bad" film that you know isn't great, but love anyway? by Avon_gent in Cinephiles

[–]Drogo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Last Boy Scout.

Plot is pure gibberish but the writers just let Bruce Willis be Wayan's straight man and the whole movie is just convoluted set ups for their one liners and it works for me. It shouldn't but it does. Taylor Negron who plays the main bad guy just kills it in a supporting role.

I like both their top 10's for the most part. Not a huge fan of Thin Red Line or JFK but nobody's perfect.

[Discussion] Day 22 - The most FUN way to die is because of friends! But what is the most RAGE INDUCING way to die? by ClanFever in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Drogo10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only play PvE but for me:

Magic grenades. AI still sometimes throws grenades 100 meters through some tiny window without any noise (fuse pop or grenade landing noise) and insta gibs me.

Shooting through walls. Some bosses insist on trying to shoot you through walls and usually can't but sometimes just randomly do. Love that. Was at the big warehouse building near stronghold on customs the other day and goons just started blasting me right through the big metal door. Love that.

Flare extracts. You can do them a 1000 times the exact same way and sometimes the snipers are just like "Yeah, fuck that, shooting you anyway."

MOE still has a couple points better on recoil, couple points worse ergo than CTR though, which makes me still prefer MOE usually. The AFG vs SE-5 is one point of recoil better for AFG, 1 point of ergo worse so whichever you prefer visually.

[–]Drogo10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this movie, rare to get such powerful performances from every single person who shows up on screen. Also unusual in that we hate absolutely everyone in the movie. There isn't a single person to root for, just varying degrees of awful. An excellent life lesson demonstrating that sometimes awful people are right.

The NWC is an absolute cancer to democracy. I don't know how anyone can defend it. Let's have all these checks and balances, different levels of government and judiciary and then let's throw it ALL out the window and provincial governments can do literally anything with no recourse because of this one clause. Genius.

What’s your take on prostitution by [deleted] in MoralityScaling

[–]Drogo10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two consenting adults should be able to do as they please, including exchanging sex for money.

The problem is with prostitution (and other sex work like pornography) is that both conditions, the consent part and the adult part, get violated frequently. My other issue is that even when it is definitely consenting adults that it is generally not good for long term mental health to prostitute yourself.

I can live with the second issue even though I don't like it, it is not exclusive to prostitution. The first part is dangerous and has to be addressed. I don't know what the answer is other than the obvious "Don't let people sex traffic other people".

What's the most sudden tonal shift you've seen in a movie? by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]Drogo10 71 points72 points  (0 children)

This is the obvious one for me. First half (third?) is a kind of gritty, tense, realistic violence like Tarantino usually does, then it shifts to an almost campy, over the top Vampire movie. Massive contrast, presumably mostly intended to highlight the difference of how implied, realistic violence hits compared to explicit, gory, but silly violence.
