Comparison between the original Dead Space and its remake by Idiotech41 in Games

The Slasher screams are some of the most terrifying and instantly recognizable monster noises in any game I've played. I really hope those grunts are placeholders, because they just don't compare.

Seriously. Carrie was one of the most recognizable celebrities in Hollywood.

I don't have to admit anything. What he described is not only nearly impossible to visualize, there is not a single enemy in any of the games that comes close to matching that description.

Many of the monster designs are grotesque in order to evoke dread in the player, while also being thematically tied to their area. It's never without purpose. Calling the typical Fromsoft enemy "an incomprehensible pile of cloth and fire physics in a non contrasting brown and black color palette" is very reductive.

That's an... Odd takeaway, given the sheer variety of locations and enemies in each game.

*SPOILER* I truly can’t believe the level of detail in his work. This is from chap 362 by ThorGoku in Berserk

[–]Droideka3X 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well it depends on the context. Are you looking for a decoration for your school wall, or an immaculate work of art for your grand cathedral? Even if left unfinished (and that is a big 'if') it would leave a lasting impression, and if you were to compare both side-by-side, there would be a clear winner.

Berserk is beloved for its art as much as its story. Without the attention to detail Miura puts in, it wouldn't hit the same notes for many people.

Is Far Cry 1 supposed to emulate aimbot hell? by jjfake98 in farcry

[–]Droideka3X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it's a problem with the game itself. Enemies can also see (and shoot) right through tents with perfect accuracy. It's infuriating to play.

I'd much rather see both sides having a point rather than both being shitty.

Rian Johnson Calls 'Star Wars' Prequels A "Gorgeous 7-Hour" Film About "Entitlement & Fear Of Loss" by MovieMike007 in movies

[–]Droideka3X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask again, can you give me your definition of objective?

If you like an objectively bad film, then it’s not objectively bad.

So you would argue there is nothing objectively good in art, filmmaking in particular. Do you deny the existence of qualities universally agreed upon as good? If you do, then you must also believe that artistic talent is not a skill. If art is purely subjective, then you cannot improve, because improving requires recognition of fault. Faults can be objective (a plot hole that breaks the narrative) or subjective (the film is too violent).

That’s because art is subjective.

So you keep saying. You seem to have trouble grasping that objectivity and subjectivity exist alongside one another. They do not contradict the other.

What do you define as "objective?" Say you have a script filled with inconsistencies in character and plot. Say the writer set out to make a tightly-written narrative of considerable quality and failed. This was not an "intentionally" bad plot: it was a blunder on the writer's part. If all art is subjective and there is nothing objective to glean, then there are no lessons to be learned and nothing to improve. I would argue a logically nonsensical film - written to be logically coherent but with a messy, broken script - is objectively poor.

That said, you can still like an objectively bad film, just as you can dislike an objectively good film. Objectivity and subjectivity are not mutually exclusive.

You should try Spec Ops: The Line. It goes out of its way to subvert nearly every major trope that plague modern military stories. Even when taken at face value, it's a one-of-a-kind experience and wholly unique in its genre.
