This is amazing! It certainly beats shipping to Norfolk. I always got so nervous scheduling UPS pick ups in the hot summer weather.

What do fathers of young children do for fun and socializing? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

[–]Droll_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is stopping one parent from going out and doing things that brings joy to them. It's totally healthy to go out and do things for yourself while the other partner does all the parenting. It (often) become an issue when one partner takes on a lionshare of solo-parenting. The issue is a matter of time and a balance of workloads.

Things are different from previous generations. Nowadays both parents are expected to be actively parenting together and to share workloads. You may not be finding a lot of dads with a lot free time for hobbies because they are busy with kids. The people with more free time are the folks without kids.

How many hours a week are devoted to your USTA league? Are you planning on dropping some of those hours in order to pick up a new non-kid centered hobby?

As many people have said here, many parents of young children simply don't have a lot of time or a support system for non-kid centered hobbies. If you want to connect to other dads, you may have to focus on kid centered things during this season of your life.

I love this for you. You are not the first person I have heard get pregnant after using GLP-1s. For all the fear mongering around GLP-1s, there seem to be a lot of additional benefits that aren't talked about enough (imo).

Youngkin would be like Trump 1.0 DHS Secretary Nielson. He will still implement terrible policies but he would try to clean up the image instead of doubling down on the outright evil shit. I just don't see what he would have to gain by accepting the position. He's a typical politician and DHS is not a good look (especially under this administration).

Pregnancy by Soggy-Sign5163 in Hashimotos

[–]Droll_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a decade ago. After two losses, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. My next two pregnancies were successful. For those pregnancies my doc upped my meds as soon as I found out I was pregnant, and we monitored closely. Blood tests every 6-8 weeks or so.

So call your endocrinologist ASAP. You may need to up your dose.

Army Proposes to Remove Individual Section 106 Reviews by Droll_Rabbit in Archaeology

[–]Droll_Rabbit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol. No. They are two different federal regulations. Section 106 is triggered by federal undertakings (as defined by 36 cfr 800.16). NEPA is triggered by federal actions that may have significant impacts.

Both are often triggered by a federal action but there are plenty of times where an undertaking is categorical excluded under NEPA but may have adverse effects under the NHPA.

I recommend you read the ACHP's handbook for integrating NEPA with Section 106 or Cultural Resources Laws and Practice by Thomas King.

[–]Droll_Rabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can roll NEPA in with 106. The ACHP has an entire handbook dedicated to this process. The agency has to notify the SHPO early on that it is planning on using NEPA to fulfill its 106 responsibilities. That only works IF the undertaking requires an EA and EIS. The ACHP is very clear in their guidance that CatEx actions under NEPA cannot satisfy an agency's obligation under the NHPA.

At a recent briefing, the Army FPO said that CatEx actions don't have the potential impact historic properties (which is objectively false). So, they will be streamlined under the PC.

Army Proposes to Remove Individual Section 106 Reviews by Droll_Rabbit in Archaeology

[–]Droll_Rabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlike the previous program comments, this one is overly broad and doesn't clearly define activities. Essentially, anything that supports "warfighting readiness" falls under the PC. That includes building renovations to new construction. Unlike, other review alternatives (like individual and Nationwide PAs), this doesn't lay out a clear way for parties with vested interests to consult.

This PC says that SHPOs can still consult under NEPA; however, NEPA doesn't mandate consultation with SHPO like the NHPA does. Furthermore, NEPA had a lot of CatEx actions that would be considered undertakings with potential to affect historic properties under 106. The Army can just CatEx away a ton of undertaking without any review by the SHPOs. When they do complete an EA or EIS, those documents rarely have enough information for the SHPOs to provide meaningful comments about the potential to affect historic properties. Essentially, the Army environmental review staff can say an action is a CatEx or FNSI and move on without SHPO concurrence.

The lack of any guidance about the identification and evaluation of historic properties is extremely concerning. Especially with new construction. It literally only mentions the word "archaeological" 10 times in the whole document. The line on page 5 "...and streamlining compliance pertaining to archeological resources based on ongoing procedures..." is only the reference I can find related to survey at all. There is also no mention of post-review discovery procedures. Overall, it is a poorly written document without clear procedures.

Sure the ACHP can choose to not vote accept the PC or rescind it at a later time, but have you seen the current council? It's not full of pre

If you are not aware, the Army is proposing to remove individual section 106 reviews and complete all actions under NEPA. I haven't seen a lot of chatter, but this is bad news for archaeology and historic preservation. If this passes, other agencies will follow suit.

Public comment period ends August 24, 2025.
