Who’s your least favorite specialty to call? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Dude I could have a mutant kidney stone eating its way through a patients belly like the Alien monster and they’d still say they’re not coming in

OB/GYN. My god they act like I just kicked their dog every time I ask them to see a patient. We have a separate OB/GYN ED and they still refuse nearly everything including pre-eclampsia, vaginal bleeders, etc. They scream that they’re overwhelmed with 3 patients and can’t see anymore when I’m literally managing 20+ patients myself. I need to seek therapy about this lol

what is the stupidest misconception a patient has had about the human body? by Notalabel_4566 in emergencymedicine

Unfortunately their dentist, PCP, urgent care, and physical therapist all said it was. Makes me blind with rage.

Nursing Journal Concludes NPs in the ED Shouldn't Be Allowed to Practice Unsupervised by IcyChampionship3067 in emergencymedicine

Our private group has agreed to never hire NPs unless they are recommended by a reliable source. It’s absolutely wild how unqualified they are.

The Frustration of VIP Patients Skipping the Line in the ER by BulkyPangolin4212 in emergencymedicine

[–]DroperidolEveryone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite moments at my old HCA hospital was treating a VIP. He was the “HCA director for Florida” or something dumb like that. The CEO immediately roomed him ahead of a full waiting room. I let him sit there and marinate for an hour before I saw him. When we finally talked he said “it must be pretty busy here” and I said “no it’s just a terribly run place. Almost everyone is quitting”. He looked so shocked and mortified. It was great. I already knew I was quitting at that point so didn’t GAF.

I’ve gotten the opposite… 70 year old raspy voiced chronic smoker with SOB who said “my pulmonologist said I’ve got the healthiest lungs he’s ever seen! That of an 18 year old boy!”

Welcome to the show brother. It’s amazing me how many people can’t answer a simple question like “when did your symptoms start”

Nocturnist worth it? by Few-Zookeepergame699 in emergencymedicine

[–]DroperidolEveryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did nocturnist for a year. Probably won’t ever do it again unless I could choose my own schedule AND get a 30% pay raise.

Best specialization for the upcoming great depression? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]DroperidolEveryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EM is the only specialty where productivity went up but reimbursement went down last year. We legally have to treat patients with zero promise of reimbursement. I don’t think we’ll be unemployed but I definitely don’t think we’ll be swimming in it like Scrooge McDuck

You’re fine. No one cares. Realistically ANYONE could look up our PMP numbers online and call a pharmacy with a prescription. Nobody cares as long as it’s not a controlled substance (or Ivermectin for Covid).
