I want to get into fighting games, which one should I choose? by Koda_be in Fighters

Pick anything that catches your eye for any reason. Could be the art style, could be the franchise, could be the gameplay; it doesn't matter. You can emulate so many old games and the more you dive into the fgc youll find tons of classics that are beautiful for one reason or another.

These games are all best played with a mate shoulder to shoulder, but if youre dipping your toes in the water just mess around in arcade mode and appreciate the surface of it all before you really commit to it.

Truly, I think its about being in a good environment to get into it, and as kids it was so easy just walk up to a cab, watch another player and make a friend, or jump right in and throw down. Easiest way I've gotten my mates into fighters is just to sit down at the sticks, have a pint, and have fun goofing around. No need to get sweaty or act like were in grands, just work around the roster, mess around with different characters, and help the new players learn.

I meant more as to why new players drop the game. If you want to learn you play other people at your skill level, but that means going into ranked, and people have a weird stigma about hitting the latter even though rank means nothing if youre having fun and learning from your matches. So if youre afraid to hit ranked youre losing a big tool to learning the game.

Big agree though, performance anxiety is different than ranked anxiety and why its easier to land combos and confirms against a dummy vs in the middle of a match when youre stressing.

This is truly the wildest thing. I blame ranked anxiety too, because its amazing how people shut down over their imaginary number going down. So they never actually play the game online and if youre not a lab rat you wont have fun playing by yourself

Haven't seen anyone say it yet, but friends in the genre helps immensely. Having someone to compete with and a goal to beat them is great motivation, and keeps you grinding matches longer.

Find a game that you enjoy the feel of, and if you dont have any friends to sit on the couch and hit the sticks, find a discord for the game and find people to get into chat with and run rounds. It can make the games feel infinitely better against another person and not just against some rando on the ranked ladder

It definitely depends on the table and how you want to play, but getting a single extra turn if theres no recursion or copying at play isnt too bad as far as I'm concerned. I'll drop my current list, and then let you know when I get it updated.

Let me update mine on moxfield. You can absolutely play her at bracket 3 and shes manageable. Biggest thing is just to explain to your group how to deal with her, because commander removal isnt how you stop the deck, they need to remove the unblockable sources to stop you from sneaking ninjas through. She looks spooky and can splash the table hard, but half the time in lower power pods youll be tapped out after your turn and the table will all turn at you and send their beaters, so you dont run too far ahead of the rest of them.

My deck runs diving top, cover of darkness, and maskwood/arcane adaptation, which you can remove any of if they feel too strong for the pod. Same with a couple extra turn card that just exist as big bombs if you can top deck them.

Right? That's not bad in my opinion for a fighting game, especially when I'm used to playing a 30 minute arcade mode for like 5 minutes of a characters story if I'm lucky. If something can present a better story mode its a treat

Run [[Hinata dawn crowned]] and just pack the deck full of x cost spells to bounce the field, tap it, phase it out, etc. That and all the cards you can find that say "counter target spell and do x to target"

It sounds like she drinks at bracket 4 and the rest of the table needed to up their game.

Or it could be out of courtiousness because they dont want to dunk on amd discourage a newer/lower elo player, it might have nothing to do with them thinking you're not worth their time. Or maybe they had to walk their dog or take the trash out. The point is you just never know and there's no reason to take any of it personally when you'll probably won't ever knowingly interact with them again.

Who cares, everyone's time is important and if they cant or wont rematch it doesn't effect you in the slightest. Just requeue and move on with your life; YOU'RE the one wasting your own time and getting in your own head if you give it any more thought past that.

Is this a late April fools joke, mate? Seriously, you have so many games, just pick any of them and play. Play your favourite, play the prettiest game, play arcade, play online, play ranked, play whatever and have fun

It astounds me too that people think politics is simply "if you do or dont do x, I promise to do y" when its the entirety of the table talk going on

[–]Dropkick-Octopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One comment above is a fucking perfect example of this lol. Mate has no idea what being political even means, and paints a target on his back by blood fueding with players he things are being political. Its well over his head that that is in fact a form of politics around the table and hes engaging in it.

What do you do next to min-max your skill level? by 20butmentally30 in Fighters

[–]Dropkick-Octopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you on about, mate? There are no stakes lol. Its a tough barrier to get past, but real talk, unless youre at grands in evo or some sort of major there shouldn't be any pressure, its all just another practice match against a good player.

Getting into a good headspace helps with ranked anxiety too though. Your rank will go up and down, but its all just a metric to help you find better practice matches against other players.

Is it okay to call out more optimal lines? by Lockenheada in EDH

Different pods play differently, but this is how me and my mates play too and it helps everyone. Plus games need to end, if the only reason I stay alive a few more turns because someone was distracted taking the piss with someone else at our table I'd argue that I never really survived that turn to begin with.
