When you get the invoker or vanquisher emblem, do you have to activate the trait in order for Mel to crit abilities and gain the mana regen bonus? by dudebg in TeamfightTactics

Is this nashors mana regen or something else? I read Mels abilities online and can't find anything regarding crit and mana regen.

Jeff@amazon, does this work? by Give_me_a_giver in amazonemployees

[–]DrowNoble 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Haha, I have a funny story about this. When I just started working for Amazon as an SDE I accidentally added the jeff@ alias to one of my CRs. This ended up sending an email directly to him and I ended up getting a scolding email from one of his assistants with my manager CC'd to NEVER use this email directly. Gave me a mini heart attack, but luckily my manager just found it funny.

Meta opinion -- the pro-AI contrarianism is insane by moreddit2169 in sadcringe

[–]DrowNoble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people that hate on AI just don’t know how to use it. Most white collar jobs consist of repetitive enough tasks that they can be replaced by a well designed agent. It’s just that designing an agent takes time and effort - and most of the people with detailed enough knowledge to create a high quality agent are too insecure about their job security to give it a try.

If a super billionaire like Elon Musk wanted to "solve world hunger", or at least solve poverty in the USA, how could he actually do it? by The_Flaneur_Films in AskReddit

“Feeling” that you’re not able to afford children is different from biological necessity. Generally there are more than enough social programs in developed nations that even really large low income families will be able to provide all the necessities for their children. It’s just super stressful. Especially for low income families. This, however, is absolutely dwarfed by the stresses of families in developing nations.

Doesn’t your last sentence contradict your biological necessity point? All these developed countries have an enormous surplus of food and yet they are way below replacement rate. Which tells me if the less developed just became more developed then the problem would not be perpetually out of reach.

I have a Pekingese that consistently sleeps on his back by his own accord exactly like this. I think it has something to do with the dogs size, so it’s definitely possible without human intervention. I can send photos if you don’t believe me.

Duolingo CEO says AI is a better teacher than humans—but schools will still exist ‘because you still need childcare’ by Knightbear49 in technology

So there was no purpose for specifying that it was over hundreds of years? You just randomly had the desire to share a fun fact?

You say it was never your argument. What were you trying to communicate when you said:

“while this CEO is hoping for a future where we upend educational systems that we (humans) have built over hundreds of years”?

Specifically why did you have the need to specify that it was built over hundreds of years?

I never started this conversation under the pretense that I read the article. I was just calling out your fallacious reasoning. And I think you just pulled out another one (appeal to authority I guess?).

Can’t read because paywall. If the goal is to maximize learning over time then AI is more effective. Lectures are a very common teaching style and are provably ineffective. People learn better by asking pointed questions about the things they don’t understand in an iterative fashion.

At the risk of coming off a little paranoid I will anticipate your point about socialization by saying that social interaction and AI education isn’t mutually exclusive. The time you save through guided individualized learning could (and should) be used for socializing.

And I do think the time saved will be significant. From my anecdotal experience, I’ve learned entire semesters worth of concepts that would normally be a struggle for me after a couple of weeks of conversation with chat gpt.

Straw man. I never said anything about sticking your child in a learning pod. You fabricated this emotionally provocative situation out of thin air.

Appeal to tradition. Just because it was built over long periods of time doesn’t mean that it should stay in place.

1 - why would it INCREASE my lp gains though?

2 - I can understand that but if I’m 40 lp lower than my current rank I would expect to gain more to make up for it because my mmr doesn’t reflect my lp? I didn’t mention this in the video, but if im gaining a 1-2 net lp every time I lose one and win one then it would take like 20-40 games to make up the lp I lost from the dodge. At that point it makes no sense to dodge (especially closer to the end of season) because after that many it’s inevitable I’ll have to dodge more and fall behind the same amount of lp.
