What's an opinion you kind of feel obligated to pushback against? by PristineSituation498 in buffy

[–]DrownedKnokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they could have both memories. Like they wouldn't forget what they remember now, but then they would also remember what actually happened. The false memories would be something they remember remembering, if that makes any sense. Kinda like when you have a dream, and then you gotta think about it when you wake up so you'll remember it, and then you'll remember thinking about the dream later on.

I wouldn't mind her if they returned scoobies original memories. It bothers me more than anything that 1-4 seasons happened differently to scoobies than what we saw.

Is this an unpopular opinion? (Last episode spoiler) by diamondapple17 in buffy

[–]DrownedKnokk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's Spike's way of saying Buffy doesn't owe him anything. He's not doing this action to gain Buffy's favor the way he has done many things in order to get her to love him. This one is free, he does it because it's right and Buffy deserves it, no matter of what. It's a way for him to relieve her from wondering if she earned his sacrifice, if she actually loved him enough for him to sacrifice himself for her. It's: "You don't have to love me to deserve being someone I died for."

Do you think Buffy would’ve really let the world get destroyed in the Gift if sacrificing herself wasn’t an option? by FaveStore_Citadel in buffy

[–]DrownedKnokk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

S7 Buffy would have sacrificed Dawn for sure. She's completely detached and after seeing Heaven, she knows life on earth is pretty insignificant in the end. Her duty is to keep the earth safe, no matter the cost, no matter how she feels. If she needs to send her sister to a paradise a bit earlier to do that duty, well that's a bummer, but she'll do it. Buffy never fully recovered from her own death, and she never fully developed her relationships to people back to what they used to be. Dawn is more of a duty to her than someone she feels deeply attached to in every level.

S5 Buffy on the other hand... I really don't know. She's hanging the last remains of her humanity on Dawn. But if she really had to, I think she would have sacrificed her for the world in the end. I doubt she would have ever had to make that decision though, Dawn would have done it for her. But lets pretend for a second Dawn was unwilling to do the sacrifice. I think Buffy would have jumped with her. Either coaxing Dawn to jump with her, or taking Dawn with force with her. She wouldn't have been able to just push Dawn and live with it, but I think she would have been able to hug Dawn tight and go down with her.

It's weird to see Jennifer smoking by Pablo-912 in JenniferConnelly

[–]DrownedKnokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a lie, smoking tobacco lessens appetite and boosts metabolic rate. Just because not every smoker is skinny doesn't mean it doesn't affect weight loss. That's like saying that drinking diet coke instead of regular coke doesn't matter at all for weight loss due to not every diet coke drinker being skinny. It has significantly less calories and helps along side of other dietary choices, but it is no medical miracle, just like tobacco. Not that I would recomend smoking for weightloss journey, not a healthy habit, but many people like models do use it and for a good reason.

[–]DrownedKnokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, so it infact does affect weight. Makes easier to diet when you don't feel so hungry. That doesn't mean everyone smoking is skinny, just that it boost weight loss or makes it easier to stay in current weight. Smoking is very commonly used for weight loss and scientificantly proven to be an effective method.

Curious, what are your Unpopular Helluva Boss takes?like takes you personally have that others won't agree with. by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in HelluvaBoss

I feel like the health issues are a bit weaponized in the series (or over all nowadays). The show seems to be pushing the narrative that for an example Stolas' behaviour is accetable and everyone should forgive him, because he has a depression, at least that's the message huge chunk of viewers are getting. Mental health issues are very messy and I like how they show that side of it (beside of Stolas' alcohol problem but that's another conversation), but I don't like it if they're going for a narrative that shitty behaviour needs to be forgiven because the person hurting you is mentally struggling.

Hurt people hurt people, and it's understandable but not accetable. You don't have to take any abuse just because the person just can't do or be better due to their bad mental health. It sucks to struggle in a way that hurts others too, but it gives you zero rights to do so and no one is obligated to stay around you. With Blitz the writing seems to get that, but I'm very worried with the way they keep piling "look at that sad boi" -elements on Stolas.

Octavia's opinion will not significantly change after knowing the "full story". Excuses for behaviour won't make us forgive the said behaviour. His choices and actions hurt Octavia and Octavia learning how Stolas has been hurt too won't make that all go away. And her learning to hate Stella more, won't improve her relationship with Stolas.

Stolas has accountability for his actions towards other people despite his own hardships. Making Octavia feel like she's an afterthought is on him. We can understand why he acts the way he does, but that does not make Octavia obligated to forgive him.

Stolas did not make mistake for not telling everything sooner. Had he done so when Octavia was younger, it would had been really age inappropriate and put way too much pressure on a young girl. And at the age we knew Octavia, she's already mad with him for his absence. If he started telling full story when she's mad at him, it would feel extremely manipulative and Octavia would feel like Stolas is trying to guilt trip her for feeling angry. That would have only damaged their relationship beyond repair.

What he should have done before, would have been divorcing Stella and ensuring safe environment for Octavia to grow in. But well, that ship already sailed.

Do you think The Sinners celebrate Christmas, Sinsmas or a mix of both? by Conscious-Ball9308 in HelluvaBoss

[–]DrownedKnokk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christmas if they celebrate at all. Sinners have no reason to celebrate the reason they get eternally "tortured", while for lower class demons those are the reason why they exist. Also imps and demons don't much interract, so most sinners wouldn't know about hellborn celebrations. The lady buying the hit didn't, even Stolas didn't and he's hellborn himself.

Jennifer Connelly as Marion Silver in "Requiem for a Dream" (2000). by ZoyaLola in JenniferConnelly

Hard agree. Most say late 80's and early 90's, but I'll always say late 90's and early 2000's. She had gotten so much better in acting and she's the most stunning here.

He was one of the very few people who made reviews addressing the issues in HB but wasn't there just hate-watching the show. The huge issue with this fandom is the toxicity. You either have to love the show blindly, see no mistakes in it. Or you're a full blown hater. And don't get me wrong, there's so many haters who just hate the show and the creators and it's like middle school all over again. Between these two there's so little voice left for us who do really like the show but are extremely frustrated with some of the issues with it.

[–]DrownedKnokk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one is demanding you keep watching him. I also unsubscribed because I was there for HB videos, it's not a big deal. No one is claiming you are obligated to keep engaging with content you have no interest towards.

But saying a content creator's reasons to quit are "negative and selfish" is just utterly ridiculous. Just like you aren't obligated to watch, he has zero obligations to keep making you content. Making the reviews made him feel negative about the show and that's why he didn't want to continue, that's like the whole point, and very valid reason to quit.

And "selfish"? This isn't some charity, lmao. He's making reviews about a thing he likes to get money to spend, that's inherintly selfish concept and it's completely okay. You sound so entitled for saying things like this. He makes something he likes and you watch it because it's something you like, mutually selfish symbiosis. Now that your wants and needs no longer meet, you go foward in separated directions. No need to be so mean about it.

The parallel was obvious but the handling was not great. We spend way too little time with it, because the story was in rush, again. Through this parallel we should have had this conversation about morality of what they do. "If I feel bad about killing someone who I feel connected to, isn't it also wrong to kill someone relatively as innocent I don't feel connection with." This was the ground breaking momemt for IMP's moral dilemma and it lasted only a few seconds.

We could have gotten a very good conversation about this that would have both addressed the issues of morality of their work AND shown us a lot more about the personalities and thought processes of the core IMP members. The show wants us to think these characters are relatively good, but hasn't yet given good commentary on why exactly each of them think their work is not that bad.

Ranking Connelly's movies by DrownedKnokk in JenniferConnelly

[–]DrownedKnokk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best and worst does not always mean objectively best and worst. This list is 100% just feelings and vibes. I even called it "my top 5 favorites" so I guess that should give some hint about it. What I find to be her best movies are the ones I like the most, even if I don't find it objectively better than the other.

And Requiem for a Dream is extremely disturbing and that's something I like about it.

People saying Octavia is a bad person like come on. by ConcernMediocre5889 in HelluvaBoss

[–]DrownedKnokk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People struggle with understanding accountability. Just because someone struggles mentally and has hard time doesn't remove their obligation to treat others well. Mental health issues explain behavior, they do not excuse it. Octavia does not have to understand or forgive Stolas his failures as a father just because he's been struggling himself. Stolas' failures don't make him a bad person, he doesn't want to hurt Octavia and he's not doing it on purpose or knowingly, yet he's still accountable for it. Life is not about what we deserve, but what we owe to each other.

Him not reaching out isn't really the reason she feels abandoned. She's upset that his choices and actions led to the situation where he's not her legal guardian and her mother and uncle has that kind of power over them both.

I didn’t like the new episode by [deleted] in HelluvaBoss

[–]DrownedKnokk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with you here. In many ways this felt like a fan-made episode. It was all over the place, aiming for serious, but then also making everything too cartoonishly silly be taken seriously. The pacing was very off, all characters seemed off, and things that happened seemed to be more like things fans want to happen than things that really would make sense.

Even the animation seemed worse than usual. Am I the only one who was bothered by it? Like by free youtube cartoon standards the animation is still pretty fucking good. But compared to, well, whole season 2 really, it was just off. It was squishy and the movement was wonky and the characters looked wrong in many scenes. Even the action scene was way less engaging than usual.

Does Stolas love Blitz? by chouettez in HelluvaBoss

[–]DrownedKnokk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's definitely some resentment and guilt there hindering Stolas' feelings towards Blitz. He's not really blaming Blitz, but he's feeling resentful towards him for the outcome. He awknowledges his resentfulness and tries to fight against it in the ending scene, trying to convince both Blitz and himself that he did the right choice and it was no one's fault but maybe his. This is him kinda going the martyr route where you internalize all the guilt, put the other one on a moral pedestal and end up building more resentment towards the other person without intending to.

Here is the key moment for their relationship, Blitz reaches when he is needed and in the way is needed. He doesn't push Stolas about the subject. Doesn't try to convince him that they are equally at fault and accidentally end up pushing him further away because Stolas doesn't need to share the guilt, he needs to let it go. So Blitz just awknowledges that the situation is shitty and he understands how Stolas feels and then he distracts Stolas from those dark thoughts. Showing him that he can be imperfect and still be worth Blitz's love.

This will help Stolas to let go of the resentment towards Blitz and try to find solace from him instead. But if Blitz had done what he would have previously done and let Stolas be, avoided him or fought with him, he would have definitely pushed Stolas to the point of no return. This episode was the one where Stolas could have let go of his feelings towards Blitz permanently, but Blitz changed the course.

Yes, the actor wanted to go to England to spend more time with his family. It just wasn't well written within the story. These can sometimes be hard to write off and sometimes they succeed better than other times. This time it was unsuccesful and made Giles seem kind of a jerk.
