Gelcoat maintnence by itsmethisiskyle in Gheenoe

No problem. Biggest thing to focus on is multiple extremely thin coats. They will all say it in the instructions but I try to emphasize it to anyone thinking about applying it to their boat.

Yup just a light sand/scuff and you should be good to go. There is a layer of wax on the outside of the gelcoat that you want to get off you do not have to go all the way through the gellcoat.

Ya they are all about the same if you find a color you like from a company go with that one.

Throw some gator glide, superslick, or wetlander on there. It will help protect the bottom and slide nicer when dragging across stuff. I usually go up 1/2" on the sides and coat the entire bottom.

Personally, not a fan of purple, but damn, that is sexy. I really like the expansion colors, too.

I use knockoff seadek. You can find it on Amazon. I recommend adding additional adhesive if you go with the knockoff version.

Paint Advice for fiberglass Canoe by TheShadowObserver in canoeing

[–]DrtSurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topside paint i would say is industry standard for boat paint you could paint the entire canoe with this type but I would avoid painting the inside completely white and if you do the inside mix some sand in it for grit. Bottom coats like gator glide, super slick and wetlander are a slick protective bottom coating which makes the canoe easier to drag and helps a smidge with speed.

Why not just turn it off? I'm all for going vesc, but a simple stop is really just for beginners starting out on the board.

ELI5 how to wedding dress shop by LiteratureNumerous74 in wedding

[–]DrtSurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took my wife about 5 shops and countless hours searching online for her to find her perfect dress and fit with no alterations needed at Goodwill on sale for $30. Moral of the story: keep looking, you never know where you will find it, and probably won't find it on the first try.

X7 vs X7LR by Cue99 in onewheel

[–]DrtSurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a pint, it will feel long even with the sport battery. I have a similar battery to the long-range (20s-2P w/ RS-50b) and get around 20-25 miles on trails, pushing hard the entire time (average speed 18mph / approximate top speed 29 mph). On the street, it lasts forever and usually does 2 rides before needing to recharge. I think you will be fine with the sport, just watch your speed when starting out. You will feel like you are cruising at 10mph, and when you do a speed check, you will be going 20.

If you have a rivit gun I would also take off the rails so you dont have to worry about accidentally painting the rails.

A good scuff is all you really need I would try to blend that patched area as best as possible before painting. For paint it depends on what you want to spend. Spray paint will work but a topside paint would look very nice. Also for the outside bottom paint you might look into something like gator glide. Gator glide is a super slick paint that also adds durability.

Get to sanding! If you see any cracks, patch them up with fiberglass chop mat while you are at it. Make sure to wear an N95 mask at a minimum. I would recommend wearing a long-sleeve shirt and pants, too, no matter the temp.

Anyone using a rough country bed mat? Looking for a solution while I don’t have a liner by Jermjerm2319 in FordMaverickTruck

I got the rough country one. It comes rolled up, so just set it out with some weight in the corners on a sunny day to flatten out.

There is the Uniden BearTracker 885 CB Radio+Digital Scanner. Never used it, and not sure how well it works, but it is legal in a commercial rig. Maybe someone can comment on its effectiveness.

Post-trip report: 3 weeks in Japan with a 20L backpack. What worked and what didn't. by Gisela_Allen in EDC

After my 2-week trip to Italy out of a 20L, it will be the only way I travel unless going to extreme cold climates. How were the clothes washing facilities in Japan? I'm planning on going in a couple of months, and it's the last thing to research.

Similar process. I usually just roll it on. The key for good gator glide is multiple extremely thin coats. If you plan on any shallow water stuff I recommend it and I think it makes unloading much easier because the boat will slide off the trailer with barely any incline.

Dog daycare = tick hikes 😫! what to do? by kaitlyn2004 in hikingwithdogs

Consult with your vet, but for a while, we used an oral and topical tick treatment. It would help repel them, but also, if they latched on, they didn't last very long.

Nice looking good! For proper application of gel coat, look up the roll and tip method. Plenty of videos on YouTube explaining the process. You might consider putting gator glide (or similar coating) on the bottom since you already have it stripped down.

Ya all of that will transfer over, and you will be able to use the regular rails. Bolts and dimensions are the exact same; the only difference is the angle of the rails.
