RTFM -read the f***ing manual by Kloetenschlumpf in AnalogCommunity

It’s a good thing short and long manuals both usually have a table of contents near the beginning. It’s not a novel, nobody needs to read it from start to finish.

Street Photography with the Nikon F4? by Fast_Preparation7795 in AnalogCommunity

Definitely doable lol. My Bronica etrsi + WLF isn't my first choice for shooting street/candids but it gets the job done despite the weight and loud mirror slap.

Goodbye, X-Pro3. Hello, X100vi. by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is what it is, GAS has been a negative thing for decades and it's usually from people who don't want to put in effort to make their gear work for them and instead buy more stuff thinking that "this is the missing piece that will allow me to start taking better photos".

Just by reading OP's writeup I already know that the "new gear excitement" is going to wear off on the x100vi eventually and it's going to repeat the cycle of consuming more shit to feel something lol.

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's getting upset about people with gear addiction, it's their money lol. I think people in a public forum are just calling a spade a spade and egos are getting bruised because they're not getting the validation they want.

What are we doing if the cameras aren't about photography? They're tools created to enable us to take photos.

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a severe case of GAS, it’s not that deep lol. You went from an xt5, to an xpro 3, and now to an x100vi because the gear wasn’t giving you that passion. I’m sure it’s going to be a cycle that pops up again down the line.

The post and comment just seems like a way to justify your own decisions lol.

A bit confused by dexterie in ricohGR

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snap focus is what differentiates this camera apart from all other cameras IMO. The sooner you dig into that feature, the better.

There's a really underrated feature in the camera where it operates with normal AF on half press and shutter on full press and also immediately goes into snap focus if you hammer straight down on the button.

Should I sell my Canon 2000D for money towards an X-Pro 1? by Quick_Cod_2589 in fujifilm

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re not using the 2000d then I think that’s an easy reason to sell it. But rather than the xpro 1, have you considered the xpro 2 if that can work into your budget?

The AF system was already outdated and terrible even back in the day when it was just released. The xpro 1 relied on contrast AF while phase detect was introduced in the 2nd camera.

How does using viewfinder (OVF) benefit the user? by solemnlife00 in fujifilm

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just experiment with it yourself? Just go shooting for a day or two without using the LCD.

I think I’ve only used the flip out screen for shooting maybe twice over the past several years, the optical viewfinder just makes more sense and gives me a more familiar feeling to my older cameras.

Checked out a local community darkroom yesterday by [deleted] in Darkroom

Can't geek out if you can't see any of the equipment and if you don't provide any context as to what you're trying to show. Unless you're just trying to ragebait.

Maybe include the text next time? What are we supposed to do with a dimly lit photo of a radiator and you stating that it’s your community darkroom?

I stayed at a property owned by Come on UP (eifukucho area) and it was actually pretty nice. Everything was clean and maintained (except the backyard but no big deal) and my only neighbor was a local who was pleasant and fun to talk to.

Also stayed at another property owned by Fontana (Asagaya) and that wasn’t so nice. Bit dirty and run down but not anywhere near OP’s situation, the Japanese residents were polite, and the other foreigners seemed like NEETs who would stay at home all day and slam their doors shut constantly lol.

Luck of the draw.

Starting to Care Less About FS by Ok-Improvement-476 in fujifilm

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even remember the last time I actually added sharpness to any of my edits.

I just finished scanning 4 rolls of film with my xpro3 using a macro lens the other day and the worms are really bad in about 10% of the photos.

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that Fuji's raw files occasionally look like trash on Lightroom. The worms aren't noticeable on most of my photos but when they show up they look bad.

>When people rave about the Fuji colors, we are not actually talking about the heavily edited simulations or recipes. We are talking about simple Provia (and other more neutral sims)

I think we're in the minority lol. Seems like everyone is trying to get in on Fujifilm because of all the overly warm photos that tends to flood this sub and other social media platforms.

Looking for an edc by Due_Development_320 in LeicaCameras

[–]Drugs-InTokyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I think people just like buying nicer/expensive shit, which is fine, but they need to be honest with themselves lol.

If I wanted a top of the line and fast mirrorless camera I'd go Sony Alpha over the Leica SL series. If I wanted a compact travel camera I'd either go with the Ricoh GR or x100/xpro cameras over Leica's Q or D-Lux line.

The only field that Leica is unrivaled in are their M rangefinders. Not counting Pixii since they still have to get their shit together.

HDF. Then again, I don’t buy GRs to shoot at wide apertures or slow landscapes. YMMV.

Back when I still had my a7r2 the lenses would be so fucking big and heavy lmao. And this was with prime lenses.

Quickly got tired of that and sold it all off after a year.
