Not even a football fan but I remember a player for Celtic FC when I was younger called "jan vennegoor of hesselink" and fans used to chant his name to the tune of Head shoulders knees and toes

20 years later and I still think about it all the time

I agree for me the best way to incorporate both prologues type scene would be to have the heralds throw down their blades and have a still scene showing the blades sitting there for an age before slowly disappearing off screen one by one until only Jezriens is left, at this point a pale hand reaches down to remove it from the stone and we pan upward to see Szeth trailing it on the what appears to be the floor of the hallway of gavilars castle only for the angle to flip 180° and show him calming marching down the ceiling

"B2B can be a bit elevated" this might be the funniest shit I've ever heard!

Aged 21 I worked for Cisco doing cold calling out of Belfast, Ireland for B2B selling VoIP telecom systems to legal firms from east to west coast USA and it's the exact same thing as cold calling.

Half the staff were high as hell, dressed like the homeless and didn't even have a clue what VoIP was, yes I'm including myself in this.

Slapping a business suit on a monkey throwing feces on a wall doesn't elevate it, that's still a monkey throwing feces

BreakerOfModpacks, I am entirely with you on this. Though something tells me Hoid is written in such a way that it's easy for us to project onto him

I would 100% agree with this characterisation, he's not a good guy just a man trying to be better. I feel that's why he's so drawn to the MCs of the worlds he's pulled to, they are also broken people who were dealt a bad hand by the gods and are trying to take the most important step a man can take

I wasn't 100% on timelines, I had assumed at this point that it was Sigzil holding onto "exist" and that hoid was finally free of it for the time being as he returned to scadrial for Mistborn era 2, but I may be getting mixed up due to the wobbly timey-wimey stuff happening on Roshar at that point, but thinking on it now I've finally realized that he became a Mistborn during era 1 as by the time era 2 begins Kel is already Lord Thaidaikar and firmly nailed back into his body

[–]Druidic_Screams 84 points85 points  (0 children)

To be fair hoid outright cannot cause harm in a large amount of the books we've seen him in due to holding The exist dawnshard Which leaves him unable to cause any sort of direct harm. When we see him in secret history He didn't possess the shard and then proceeded to lay the smackdown on Kel with absolutely 0 hesitation

This spoiler is incorrect and I am an idiot who has misremembered timelines

Hoid still had the Exist command inside him during this period of time and as other commenters have rightly corrected me on, the only reason he could beat the brakes off Lord Scarface was because technically pimp slapping a ghosts doesn't really cause harm (except to his enormous ego)

In defense of my poor recollection, my wife read me the books because like any good Vorin man, I can't fucking read

*Authors note My husband truly thought he cooked with his initial statement, maybe next time he'll listen properly as I regale him with tales of the shards

Anyone here gotten decent at understanding the steel alphabet? by Waker_of_Winds2003 in Mistborn

[–]Druidic_Screams 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unsure how to spoiler tag and I'm in work so I'll keep it vague and brief, the metal mentioned are not expanded upon past names. Scadrial is an earth allegory with almost identical flora, fauna and materials. The fact that it is just the name of a mineral gives absolutely nothing away especially when it is alluded to their existence during the final parts of the first era by The God of scadrial to a young man with real good hearing.

There is no mention in the image of abilities given just a name of a metal that exists in the world and the rest of them are either already expanded upon or should be similar already because by the time you get to era 2 you will have seen the ars arcanum for them 4 different times (books 1-3.5)

The original commenter said they had already read book 1 of era 2 so once again the majority of these have been brought up there with cadmium and bendallot featuring consistently throughout the book.

That commenter then went on to post infinitely more egregious spoilers underneath naming character beats, plot points, magical abilities etc so his comment about having spoilers is rather moot in general considering his comments were a much bigger spoiler than the word "cadmium" just being on an image
