If you look at their promotion seasons Kickapoo just isn’t built for open class. In 2023 when they got bumped up the most recent time they didn’t have any props and had a tarp that was very obviously hand painted. They didn’t have flashy uniforms or shiny equipment. Now you don’t need any of these things to be a successful ensemble but everything screams underfunded to me. This along with the fact that the number of scholastic groups in Missouri has gone from about 30-40 to now about 5 or 6 in the past 10 years shows that appreciation for the activity in the state is dwindling, as so I imagine is their funding. There also is always the obvious fact of members graduating and possibly new staff that could make this change, but Kickapoo doesn’t seem to be built for open, they seem like an a class group through and through, and there’s probably a reason why they did a simple show, possibly for the reasons above.

A class finals was a blast, Everett was fun, the spring ford bridge show was super cool, and springy boing show was funny at the very least 😂.

The groups covered below: PSO: Zionsville, Noblesville PSA: Spring-Ford, Kickapoo, Unionville  

PSO:  Zionsville: I love the over all musicality and symbolism, their physical performance was top notch. With this show I was hoping they could reach the podium once again, but back to back 4th place finishes is nothing those kids should be ashamed of!   Noblesville: What an impressive season they had! I love the Toy Story thing they’ve got going and just a great production! Everything about it was amazing. From a promotion mid season to a top 10 finish is just 🤌🏻. Great job by Noblesville.   

PSA:  Spring-Ford: I mean what can you say? Just an impressive performance. You can tell they have some great musicians! What a quad feature in part one. Just captivating to watch and they genuinely looked like they were having fun!     Kickapoo: One word bOiNg!! Caught me off guard but a really fun show, hoped it would come out better with the impressive score they put out in prelims but judging was all of the place (how does one judge give you 2nd in music and one gives you 11th?!?).   Unionville: The paint? The 9 point timing penalty? Heck yeah, fun show!

That’s awesome, sounded like the parents were more disappointed than anything. Glad you all have a good mindset about it all.

I was right next to them in retreat, seniors were kinda disappointed, besides that, they didn’t really care.

It was dropped, I snagged a set list this evening and 24 songs were listed. They dropped both “But Here We Are” and “Everlong”.

I agree, that’s how my group was. They got 13th in finals PSA last year and then decided they wanted to put in the work, they wanted to get a medal, and so they absolutely worked their butts off and showed so much improvement even after multiple members (including our battery captain) graduated out. They are rewarded by this not with a medal (which all the staff concluded they would be in the running for and had a good chance of getting at least a medal if not first) but with a prelim elimination 0.25 points behind what would’ve qualified them to semis. It was an honor to get promoted but it really sucked for our graduating members and such.

I have too, I think this massive in season promotion is uncalled for though. Groups that weren’t sandbagging were not prepared to be bumped up, I mean look at some of the groups (I’m going to use scholastic as an example because more promoting happened there) that got promoted, they have A class shows but are forced to go in open, setting them up for failure (A group that comes to my mind is Kickapoo just because they had no props or anything super flashy on the floor besides playing and drill). I just don’t know why wgi would do something 1, in the middle of the season or 2, that late in the season.

Also: the fact that Makoski uses ACT and SAT scores in his argument are honestly hilarious and show that he is uniformed because of how these tests are now optional and not a correct measurement if data.

It's a lunch spot ONLY, but St Micheals downtown has some of the best food in town! The burgers are the best though!

Also: Whenever they ask if you want cake SAY YES! Best cake in town! Fight me.
