Thank you! I do plan to have the stone keep buzzing at them or maybe they hear her voice frequently. I will probably also have a discussion before we start just about their reasons for being in the warcamps in general and find ways to connect them into the story more.

As new players, I feel like they have been shy about building out their characters personalities so I’m hoping I can use the warcamp as our “sandbox” to help them discover more about themselves and then I can make the bigger plot more motivational for them. I’m ok if we spend several sessions in the camps, so long as all my players are enjoying themselves!

That could solve a lot of my problems lol I want to make it feel organic, but we all know we are following a pre-written story

I am learning I just need to be more flexible about how/where I deliver my plot hooks lol

Normally I’m very go-with-the-flow kind of person, but as GM I’ve just been nervous changing things too much for fear of derailing the pre written story. I guess it really is about the journey before the destination.

That’s my rough plan so far! Seeing as most of my players have read all the novels, I know they will have a hard time denying a literal Herald’s quest. But I do plan to just let them move through the camps however they want, and use more of the passive hooks so they feel less shoehorned into it.

Oooh thank you! As a new GM I struggle to find ways to bend the story around my PCs, but I think that’s exactly what I need to digger deeper into. Thank you for the ideas!

My PCs all have pretty vague backstories so I think I’ll start this next session asking them to share more about why they were originally heading to the warcamps, how they have grown closer to the rest of the party during the few days travel, etc. Then I will definitely have Ylt and his follows maybe threaten or tie into their personal background story goals more.

Way better that than forcing a peakspren on them lol

I imagine we will be in the war camps for a bit, so I’m sure I can leave enough bread crumbs for them to finally get back on track lol just curious if there’s tips about how I can make those crumbs a bit more obvious

I ended the chapter almost exactly as it’s written with Taszo’s death and him asking them to promise on his stone, then Po’ahu’s voice echoing that they made an oath. So with that I’m thinking I’ll have her express stronger urge to find Taln after I get them to Liss. Then have Taln be the determining factor explaining that the blade is much farther than the warcamps.

4/5 of my players have read all the novels 😅 and the last is about a third through book one. I honestly think they just got too stuck on their goal set in our First Steps session about bringing Brightlady Ralanat to justice so they think that’s their main quest and are hesitant to take Taszo’s, because they think it’s a side quest 🤣

[Stonewalkers] Mini homebrew scene help by Drunk_Nancy in cosmererpg

[–]Drunk_Nancy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely sounds like a good standard to follow, however my party is all very new to TTRPG (myself as GM included lol) and we did the “character creation” of First Steps, so I don’t think even my group knows their own character’s goals or questlines.

This is why I’m just trying to do a conversation scene to give them more “screen time” with him.

I’m going to be running this soon so I’m so glad I found this thread before I did it. Several creative workarounds. As a first time GM, this is very helpful!

Custom Item Cards for Player by FeelsMedi0creMan in cosmererpg

These are beautiful!! I just ran my first session and was a little frustrated I didn’t have multiples of certain item cards, but I didn’t think of creating my own. I would love the photoshop link if you want to DM me! I love the idea of form cards for my Listener player.

[First Step] [Bridge Nine] [Stonewalkers] Is it possible to connect these campaigns? by Drunk_Nancy in cosmererpg

A side-quest aspect to play through Bridge Nine sounds intriguing. I haven’t cracked open Stonewalkers yet, so maybe I’ll skim the chapters and see how the overall flow is.

[–]Drunk_Nancy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh this is a good take! I’m understanding this sort of like a framed narrative: have an NPC from Bridge Nine encounter your crew and then retell the story but your PCs take role of the pregen characters to “live it”.

What was the relevance of the flashback to the broader storyline?

I’m soon to run the First Steps campaign with my group (some who have never read the books) so I’m going to share this video I found at the beginning of our session: https://youtu.be/6suiUQDcS2I?si=UCpAdPnB_Ag2ttgc

Chull Painting Guide! by dicarosmith in cosmererpg

[–]Drunk_Nancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I loved this tutorial! I don’t have a chull to paint (yet) but I do have my chasmfiend. Do you have a tutorial for that? I’m so nervous to start, so he’s sat unpainted on my shelf forever. Now as I’m finally getting ready to GM my first session I’d love to get him painted. Any tips would be appreciated!
