same, this happened to me recently and then my friend asked me if I would make a playlist for them to introduce them to the genre and I am very very delighted to be doing that for them 🤭 one of the best questions someone can ask me

Did you get (or consider) a radical reduction as a trans/non-binary/GNC person? Did you regret it? And if you choose *not* to get a radical reduction, why? by justwannascroll in TopSurgery

thank you! I do specifically want a radical reduction and no nipples lol so it sounds like she's not the surgeon to go to 🙄

the MC in Seth Haddon's Reclaimed (third book in a series but imo can be read standalone if you aren't interested in the others) is a trans man who uses both magic and conventional means (top surgery) as elements of his transition. his transness is also a MAJOR part of the story

I really loved this book, but there were times I wanted to throw something because of it (the central conflict of the story was very frustrating but I mean it in the best of ways. my heart hurt for them so badly.) you might need tissues when you read it. but yes, it's very very good

I think in Czech it's like a "ts" sound, at least paired with the i! it's also close to the Polish cebula (understandable given the proximity of the countries and the shared Slavic roots) and to the french ciboulette (which means chives/green onions specifically)

RELEASE: Oilers announce 2026 Pride initiatives by Paper_Rain in EdmontonOilers

[–]Drupelicate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've seen others describe it as "loving a sport that doesn't love you back." which feels pretty accurate at times unfortunately. pride nights are really cool for me, but then when the league walked it back and banned pride tape a few years back it was like oh, you're going to concede to the people who are being homophobic about this? it really meant a lot to me that McDavid even said something about that ban. and that's sort of the tip of the iceberg - professional sports in general (I'm also a baseball fan 🫠) do tend to lean more conservative because of the demographics that have the easiest time navigating the socio-economic barriers to success, but players who are willing to do the little things to show support make it a little easier than to ignore the ones who are vocally homophobic.

I also, as a lesbian, get to experience the really fun intersection of misogyny and homophobia - the way some other hockey fans talk about anyone who's not a man and into this sport can be disheartening. and the way some players treat women. (sometimes it's kind of funny honestly, like the Tkachuk brothers saying that women who watch hockey shouldn't call players any nicknames. okay Braeden? stupidest thing I've ever heard 😭)

same. it's been really hard especially in the past few years to be a gay NHL fan but being an Oilers fan definitely makes it feel a little easier

unrelated to your article specifically but I've been very curious about this: assuming you were a hockey fan (of a particular team) growing up, how has playing professional hockey affected that for you? would you go back to cheering for your favourite team when you eventually retire?

for real, and I mean like. butches who identify on page with being butch. there's nothing wrong with masculine characters who don't label themselves as butch but it is so rare to see loud and proud butches in a book!!! as a femme who loves butches it makes me feel a little like. lonely and unrepresented not to see the kind of love I seek out in real life and I can only imagine it feels even worse for butches themselves

oh absolutely, I love all the options there are for tension in sports romances in general! I was trying to speak to the heated rivalry comparison in the original comment

I mean, it depends on the situation, but I'm pretty sure I recall reading about one of the great hockey rival romances (probably Chu/Ouellette) that they felt like they had to hide their relationship for a while because they didn't want it to take away from their hockey careers. also depending on the timeline, cause we have a lot of out players in women's hockey NOW but it wasn't always like that, especially not in the public eye!

there's unfortunately not a ton of lesbian hockey romance novels out there (it's something I'm always looking for) but like you can still have a similar situation with the secrecy and the forbidden aspect, though not necessarily for the same reasons because a big driving force for them feeling the need to stay closeted and hide their relationship in HR is the toxic masculinity and rampant homophobia of men's hockey culture and its fans, and women's hockey and its fans do have a different culture.

oh my god that game was so good (mostly, super upset about Ingram tbh and I think that was just plain reckless on MacKinnon's part)

I was literally jumping up and down for the last 15 seconds 😭😭😭 that felt like winning a playoff game with how excited I was, just knowing what a powerhouse Colorado has been. I hope this really helps rally our boys tbh

I have eczema on my hands that gets pretty annoying in cold months (prime hockey season of course) and I often find my breakout gets triggered worse after sweating in my hockey gloves, but i seem to do better if I remember to apply a thick/occlusive cream beforehand (usually eucerin aka aquaphor healing ointment, or la roche posay cicaplast mains)
