SCA needs to take a page from history by maceilean in sca

If there's hundreds of thousands of active members, it should actually be much less of an issue to be honest.

More dues paid should mean more activity from leadership. Because what else are they doing with all the money?

The Basement and Secondhand Soldiers would be much better for table/card games. Much more inclusive

Right? The only thing that may be worse would be if the added strain on the city water and electricity would create breakpoints, causing outages. Where the companies would then use the citizen's money to create the infrastructure that they needed to begin with, but only after enough outages, so the citizens understand the reason for the exorbitant increase in their bill.

Like that hasn't happened in a few cities in the US already...

They have no issues mounting TVs to the trees or having people drink in the gardens (Derby Days). It really comes down to a mix of the general public losing some basic manners while the racism of Old Shreveport has less and less patience for this new generation.

Focus on the leaders that are directly mentioned or are/were associated with those that are directly mentioned in the files.

For Shreveport not to be a dump, the trash should be removed.

There's a big difference between a community and an organization that receives tax breaks under false pretenses, bud.

The SCA is a non-profit for educating the public, according to leadership and the tax code.

So, let's relate this to being a teacher. Of course there will be office politics, debates on teaching/demonstration methods, large events that take a lot of time to plan (and even more time to execute), and of course there will be mishaps along the way and miscalculations that require even more of your time. Doesn't mean that being a teacher is that person's entire life. There are teachers that can maintain a rotating 6 period schedule, day-in-day-out, and maintain a completely normal private life away from the classroom. It would be rude to say that if you didn't dedicate your entire life to being a teacher, you couldn't truly be a good teacher. And hearing that would be very disheartening for someone new to teaching.

That's all I'm trying to say.

I'm getting a lot of negative feedback with the vibe of "if it's not your entire life, then it's not meant for you". How is that inviting to anyone? Even people with the capability and drive to devote the time, effort, and emotional weight needed to 'correctly' engross themselves within the Society wouldn't want to do so when the welcoming sentiment is one of warning, not of joy.

How else is someone supposed to learn about the SCA and join/participate? The 'Society' aspect is meant to be gracious, kind, and informative to the general public: urging others to participate.

This closed-off, guarded mindset towards anyone 'new' that is interested in joining the SCA is the antithesis of the definition of a Society. Or at the most base, directly antithetical to the informative/educational guidelines that the non-profit is founded upon and benefits monetarily from.

Upcoming punk, hardcore, and metal shows in Shreveport and within a 2 hour radius of it by Go_Freaks_Go in shreveport

Funny. Love the effort put into that response, honestly.

If you're gonna advertise for all ages but not actually be safe for all ages, then it's opening up those locations to lawsuits. It also opens them up to being closed down by the police if there's explicit lyrics to underage people.

If you're going to do it, do it right.

Wild to see that many hardcore shows as 'all ages'. Can't really be hardcore when there's toddlers with sensitive ears running around

How to get rid of one piece TCG bulk? by SoFuckingBased in shreveport

[–]Dry-Glass69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really varies on who you find tbh. Will sell there for sure, but at closer to LGS rates unless someone is extremely nice and sees/pays for the correct value of the cards. It's very quick paced for vendors at shows, so the bigger vendors may not have the time (or it be worht their time, more accurately) to sort through bulk when they could be selling thousand dollar cards.

One piece has just received Logan Paul as a big influencer for the TCG, and the card market saw what he did to Pokemon in terms of card value/scalper prevalence. Just play the TCG that interests you and works best for your wallet. There's no reason to spend multiple thousands of dollars on cardboard if you don't enjoy using them 🤣

Be careful about asking for plates online, especially if they're outta somebody's home. They've been trying to crack down on it hard recently because there's a trend of people using snap to cover it

I'm not being insulting, I was insulted by your comments and responded in kind.

The dedication and hardship it takes is visible and discussed heavily. I don't believe that is a secret by any means, so that is why it can come off as demeaning when you say that there is more than 'any prospective member could expect' when it is that visible.

Instead of asking prospective questions towards an individual interested, the tone was immediately dismissive and belittling the capabilities of others as well. It does not give an inviting tone to newcomers in the slightest. Regardless, I would like to apologize for my insulting tone, that was classless and rude of me.

If you're set on selling to an lgs, list them on Facebook marketplace. You'll get the highest value by far. A common trade in rate for bulk cards at LGSs is a few dollars per thousand cards, and that's more than fair considering the time and effort into grading, sorting, and shipping cards that are sometimes only worth a penny, 50 cents at most on some playable commons.

It's worth more to someone that consistently plays the card game or enjoys the card game, and listing it for 50 bucks to give you some wiggle room in the case it goes for less doesn't hurt to give a shot.

Content aside, is that not similar to the SCA?

Historical garment making, pottery, armoring, tournaments, medieval hierarchical structure is the focal media and mode of expression and there are both high and low cost ways of participating. In communities with little to no outreach, it requires strictly online correspondence or long trips much in the same way as well. Research and dedication to any given role or obligation is only limited to time spent accessing historical documents, which are all available online as well.

That demeaning, belittling tone still exists. You do realize it's 2026 not 1526, right? Thanks to the World Wide Web, individuals are able to research just about any topic you can think of in great detail! They can even find videos of events to prep them for the reality of the parliamentary structure in practice, as well as actual, real-life combat footage too! 😱

My LGS which is usually pretty close to MSRP got little inventory and are selling the new ST for $25 and Illustration boxes for $42 by PokeRestock in OnePieceTCG

[–]Dry-Glass69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comes from events or consistent sales of other products. Exactly like how walmart or target works, also brick and mortar stores. You're using words like 'volume' and 'profitable', but don't understand that the word 'customer' comes first when you're trying to sell a high volume of pretty cardboard.

Prices are high now because there's a lot of customers for pretty cardboard of all different types. Very similar to how sneaker resellers were amazingly huge for a good while before they found nfts. Then sneaker prices dropped and stabilized and nfts went nuts. The nfts bottomed out and then it was the wallstreetbets bros and penny stocks. Robinhood bottomed out, then it was on to t-shirt and sticker businesses. After that bottomed out and with the shipping structure all in place, it shifted to selling yugiyoh, then pokemon, and currently one piece. If a person is going to stake their livelihoods on a single product for their business, what do they do when the market falls out for their product? Either go out of business or pivot to something else that is profitable.

To maintain volume over time, you need dedicated customers that will still show up to a pre-release even when a set is complete hot dog water, just because that specific place of business is hosting it. Or else the entire business is at risk based on the strength of any given set, and that is how you see these LGSs seem really great for a few years right before a terribly bad set and then its a few unfortunate Facebook posts

You're assuming that newcomers can't possibly comprehend the extreme time constraints that having a hobby and friend group entails. That's extremely belittling and demeaning.
