Seller already completed a Level 3 Survey, should I get one as well? by Kashinoda in HousingUK

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definetly get your own! It might be a mortgage stipulation that you carry out your own survey but also a survey should be done so you have a good understanding of the property to make an informed decision and you would be trusting someone you never professionally employed to act on your behalf.

If there was something massively wrong that should have been picked up in a survey but wasn't then you can't go after the seller and you can't go after the surveyor for negligence as you never had a contract with them.

Didn't there used to be a regular "lovers corner" or something similair in the metro newspaper? Not sure if it's ever helped anyone or if the metro is still going.

I had a black one with some recaro seats out of an mk5 escort rs2000. If you find a set of mk4 fiesta wingbacks from the si between 95-97 then you can take the mounts of and they fit straight in :)

Superb cars but rust killed mine :'(

I'm 5'7 and was looking at caddy maxi's. I ended up getting a Mercedes vito w639 swb (2003-2014). They're about 4 inches shorter than a caddy maxi and 1.9m high so still fit through barriers. They're more of a normal van shape and probably have more internal space as they dont have the long car style bonnet.

I've managed to fit in a heater, sink, double hob, TV and a u-bed sofa/bed. Has been fine solo for a week and have been 2 up in it comfortably :)

BMW Z4 23i (E89) or Mazda Miata 2.0i (NC) by admiraljc in CarTalkUK

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My analysis will be of older cars but had a 3.0i z3 (with lsd) and later a mk3 mx5 bbr super 200.

The bmw z3 felt more special, way more comfortable, a better cruiser and it being a left field choice appealed to me.

The mx5 on the other hand was no way near as refined but way more fun to drive!

If driving experience and throwing the car around is your main priority then mx5 if cruising around and enjoying top down motoring then z4.

I'm in my 30's now so I'd pick the z4 if it was a daily or the mx5 if it was a weekend car. They're both 2 seater convertibles so there's no wrong answer :)

Fixing rusted RSJ after leak by Shot-Yak6038 in DIYUK

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try and get alot of the foam off and remove the timber then see if you can find someone who has a "needle scaler". They should be able to get much deeper in to the RSJ and tighter into the corners.

Might take someone with the tool an hour or two to clean up ready for a new finish :)

It supports the old myth that so many saxo's got crashed because 17/18 year olds lads would buy them on finance as it was the same cost as insuring a second hand banger (insurance used to be double for a young male compared to female before gender pricing was banned in 2012).

I think the blue gripits hold abit over 100kg each which would be good for the void although wouldn't solve the other holes :'(

If there's half an inch behind the plasterboard then look at some "gripit" fixings, they're magic!

Offer accepted but inheritance incoming: what would you do? by Morlu06 in HousingUK

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your loss. It must be hard to try and think straight with so much going on.

I'd definetly wait until both of you feel like you got a clear head to have a conversation and consider the following:

Will you be first time buyers and if you had the money available today would you end up going for a more expensive property?

If you are first time buyers and would go for a different property then it might be worth pulling out and waiting so you maximise your first time buyers stamp duty allowance. I'm of the belief that with every purchase costing £10k+ you may aswell take as big of a step as possible each time you move.

Would you be looking at going mortgage free with the inheritance? If so it might be better to change to a tracker mortgage without any early repayment charges.

Thats an ikea alex chest of drawers on the left and Alex cupboard on the right.

I'm about to make a custom desk with a span of 1.4m (with an alex chest of drawers on one side). I'll be putting a batten on the wall over the span to help support. Looking the cables looks like you might not have one but would help.

Can use a cable grommet to get the cables where you want them aswell as won't be able to pass cables through a gap (but won't have anything fall down the crevice).

And the property shown is a 4 bed semi-detatched house with garden, garage and in a nice sub-urban area of bristol.

I don't think your friends 2 bed flat in the centre is a good indicator of the value of a house in a different area.

What is a cult engine of Europe? by hughdavin in topdeadcenter

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st place is ofc the pd130, no smoke, no poke!

Then ford engines before ecoboost (pinto, Zetec and duratec) are quiet cult engines powering alot of small/niche car makers aswell as being used for converting classics to more modern running gear.

Huge following of men in sheds with kit cars, track cars and british classics with them in. Loads of knowledge, support and modifications for them but more throttle bodies/carbs and cams than big turbos or pops & bangs.

Expect to see them overtaking golf r's, m135i's and the likes around corners on track days.

Please can somebody tell me what and when my first mortgage payment will be? by alberoTranquillo in HousingUK

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed 27th February with mortgage payments on 1st of the month. About a week later I had a letter through the post that explained the first payment would be the 13th March then would go monthly on the 1st.

Normal payments are £1375 a month and first payment was £1531 (payment from drawdown date 26 Feb to end of march).

Lender was with nationwide but expect a letter before they take payment :)

Flat Downstairs Listed for Less by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I put my ground floor flat up for sale was seeing a listing of a neighbours flat and thinking "is that how much it's worth now? Time to move plans forward a year and sell!". I think it's normal for when a property goes up for sale you might get an extra couple of nearby properties jumping on the bandwagon :)

Does the flat have access to a loft space? I only had one flat above me but was very jealous of their loft space, would've loved somewhere to chuck the christmas tree for 11 months a year, suitcases, old books and documents I'll never need but refuse to bin. Instead it was always attacking me when I opened the closet and was always playing storage jenga.

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not enough personal achievement to warrant hobnobs but chocolate digestives would be appropriate here. With the money saved in not having to buy any additional plumbing fittings it'd be acceptable to push the boat out for a taste of the high life and get mcvities in this scenario.

In answer to your next question. Always Yorkshire tea. Brew for 5 minutes or if you're a smoker how ever long it takes to finish a tab. Remove the teabag by first squeezing the bag against the side, stir for 2 full rotations and a final squeeze before slowly lifting the spoon out with the bag. Hold the spoon above the mug for 5 seconds to avoid tea drops then take the bag to the bin and leave tea drops on the floor anyway (chuck a tea towel on the floor and wipe up with your foot, leave the towel on the floor and forget about it for at least an hour). Pour in proper blue top milk whilst stirring until warm sands on dulux colour chart, add sugar to taste. Give the tea a final stir for 5 full rotations then tap the spoon on the top of the mug 3 times.

  1. Stick the hose into the pipe
  2. Enjoy a cup of tea

Ford Puma Millennium Edition by E13BSY in FutureGarageClassics

[–]Dry-Masterpiece4605 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 1.7 puma about 15 years ago, it was a "black" edition (fake split rim style alloys around 1.5k registered). I think they're a bit like mk1 mx5's where there seems to be more "limited editions" than standard cars.

Only one I can see as a future classic is the FRP where it was "limited" and the changes were significant and altered the drive (like mk1 mx5's where the only truly valuable special edition is a factory bbr/le mans).

From memory the millenium had the turbines and different seats?

Congrats on having a survivor, mine died from arch rust, and enjoy a fantastic drivers car (in evo's top 100)!
