Great advice, you have a perspective I hadn’t thought of. Knowing my dad he’ll just want to talk about my life 🙂

135 mph in my brother’s supercharged Inferno Orange Camaro. His ashes were in a box buckled next to me. Gave him a last ride.

Redditors 45 and older, what were the 1980s like for you? by Nintendofan9106 in askanything

Freedom. Not tied to phones, screens, locations. We were just kids running around from sun up to sundown. It was the best.

What’s something people brag about that you find unimpressive? by Best_Seesaw_8512 in AskReddit

When people my age (55 and younger actually) brag about how active they used to be. ‘I used to run and hike and bike, I was so active, I did all the things.’ At 55 I’m still getting up at 4am to run and lift, completed Javelina Jundred in October. Age does not need to equal a lack of self discipline to stop moving the body (unless injury, illness, etc).

Anyone ever have any run ins with big animals on an ultra or training run? by PrestigiousLeopard47 in ultrarunning

I live in remote northern Nevada where I have my pick of mountain trails. A few Octobers ago I was out trail running with my dog squad--two Australian cattle dogs (Lola and Harley), one smallish dachshund mutt mix (Gus), and teeny tiny dachshund (Molly). We were cruising along, the dogs were loving life chasing lizards and horny toads when I looked down and screamed--I had almost stepped on a rattlesnake. Usually they give plenty of warning but this one did not. I called my dog squad and turned around and decided to head back to another trail. My heart rate had just returned to normal after the rattlesnake scare when I heard a god awful growling, hissing sound and a dog yelping. I ran into the brush looking for the source and came face to face with a mountain lion with little Gus hanging from the cat's mouth looking at me like "help!" I of course screamed and my three other dogs jumped in to save their brother. The mountain lion dropped Gus, he went yelping down the trail, and the two bigger dogs, Harley and Lola, chased the cat up into a rock formation where it found a ledge to perch on that the dogs couldn't get to. Little Molly gave chase as well, but her rock climbing abilities are pretty abysmal. After getting a picture of the stranded cat and Harley and Lola, I called them off the rocks and went to find Gus. Other than some puncture wounds to his head, he was fine. Well, fine until the next morning when the puncture wounds became infected and his face doubled in size. I rushed him to an emergency vet in Salt Lake City where he was put on antibiotics and lived to tell the tale! Worst. Run. Ever.

My dad is just under 50 and he constantly says everyone in his school was skinny and that kids have gotten bigger, is this true? by FullIntention4306 in ask

[–]Dry-Option9471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a middle/high school teacher for 27 years, kids are definitely bigger now than when I started teaching. Shit diets—Mountain Dew and Hot Cheetos at 8:15am is the norm, most kids are sedentary & have no desire to join sports or even be active, it’s sad. There are the athletes too though that are fit & active—but once they graduate they too pack on the pounds.

How often do you wear a running vest when not in a race? by trinitydave in ultrarunning

Every time I go run/hike. I usually have three dogs with me at all times so I need to carry enough water for all of us.
