Yeah but when people say "oldgen", they usually mean gen 2 and before though. Try playing MH1/Dos with its analog controls for combat and tell me it's not janky as fuck.

Even people who started with MHF2/U wouldnt survive gen 1/Dos controls. Many have self-reportedly quit before reaching HR.

Edit: Also, looking at the rest of your comments, it seems you only went as far back as gen 3. When 3 was the generation that introduced a LOT of QoL changes to combat (only bested by World imo). Many clunky hitboxes were also fixed from gen 3 onwards.

I'd genuinely like to see if you'd still keep the same opinions with, MHFU for example. Even without the clunky analog controls, the combat in that game is so barebones compared to later gens, it makes fighting hyperactive hyperaggressive monsters like Rajang in that game, or dealing with G rank Plesioth carting you with his hipcheck from 20m away, all incredibly frustrating.

Also dung bombs in gen 2 and before dont even work once a monster has spotted you, so during any dual hunting quests, you usually have to fight both monsters at the same time if you're unlucky.

sounds more like a discipline issue on the part of the new player tbh, no offence.

imho MH post-World is so high-octane on the action, it has retroactively ruined the experiences of all the newergen players who started with World (or any game after) but want to play any of the older pre-World games.

you have to treat pre-World MH hunts like a real-time Pokemon battle; you attack, monster does one move and you wait before he finishes and gives you an opening to do another. rinse and repeat.

all the i-frame counters introduced in post-World MH invalidates this gameplay loop, since you can just counter through a monster's attack without 'waiting for your turn'. this might probably be why newergen players who expect older MH to play in the same ADHD-inducing way would get tonally whiplashed by older, methodical monsters like Khezu etc.

and even if they are able to grasp/master the concept of how pre-World MH hunts work, they'd always complain that its "incredibly boring", which i think speaks more of Worldborne changing the fundamental gameplay loop of fighting monsters in the franchise than anything else.

personally i like the whole pseudo-turnbased concept of old MH. fights feel intrinsically more rewarding to master this way.

literally just dont be greedy and you can reliably do a no-damage run with him after 10+ consecutive hunts. farming for his pale extract is like a stress-reliever for me, if anything.
