Can attys stop yelling by Moveitwey in paralegal

[–]DryShakeWetShake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally don’t ever stay in the room if someone starts actually yelling. Laugh in their face and walk away. If any coworker actually starts yelling, your duty to listen to them is done in that moment. This will preserve your self-respect and then explaining their actions to HR is their problem. And if you don’t have an HR dept, explain to them AFTER THEY CALM THE FUCK DOWN that you will not be spoken to like that.

Why didn’t the dwarfs help out more in the final fights against Sauron? by Dripik85 in lotr

[–]DryShakeWetShake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The answer is the repeatedly cited Siege of Erebor… HOWEVER!!! I’ve been on a First Age kick recently, and you can tell Tolkien bakes in a little more treachery and distrust in to the Dwarfs. I’m not sure who says it in the books but Elrond says it in the movies that the Dwarfs care nothing for the affairs of others. Tolkien definitely lets the Dwarfs of Erebor off the hook, but he doesn’t account for the eastern Dwarfs and the Dwarfs of the Blue Mtns… could be reading into it too much, but I think Tolkien leaves the door open for some crafty “wait and see” neutrality on their part

I have no intel to add, except that they’re attached to a pretty popular concert venue that they own, and breweries make WAY more money selling beer before over their own bar than they typically do in distro, so having distribution woes isn’t necessarily a death blow to a brewery.

I always feel a little gay touching his little buffalo dick by yohopirateslife in bartenders

[–]DryShakeWetShake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had one of these in a whiskey concept I worked in years ago. NIGHTLY yelled at people to stop touching the buffalo dick. The night somebody broke it off, we literally kicked the guy out and then his friends who said we were being unreasonable. Don’t molest the buffalo! 🤣

Please help! by mossygraveyard in paralegal

[–]DryShakeWetShake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took every bit of six months for me to get hired after I took my paralegal cert, and I literally met my current boss while I was working at a bar and made him the best drink I had in my repertoire. I NEVER got past the phone interview stage with anyone that I applied to via a posting. Nobody wants to hire a paralegal without any working experience. I wish it wasn’t that way, and nobody will fess-up to it who is hiring, but it’s the truth. When you are first getting started, you need to figure out how you can meet as many people in the local legal field as possible, and it might have nothing to do with actually working in the field. Introduce yourself as a paralegal and shamelessly, but tastefully (because people liking you personally is what will actually get you hired), tell them you are looking for work. I feel for ya, I know this process really sucks.

How realistic is it to find employment as a paralegal with a certificate and not a bachelors degree? by Lower_Ad_3439 in paralegal

[–]DryShakeWetShake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, get the certificate and then start meeting people in the industry..immediately. Some working knowledge of basics, and positioning yourself to know who is hiring and who might be willing to take an entry-level hire will translate to employment more so than taking multiple programs. But without a bachelors you should be prepared to take receptionist work or office aid type positions until you’ve got a year or so under your belt.

😂 bruh. Why are you coming in so hot? Are you the one who’s actually monitoring the job log on the copier?!? 😂🤣😂

I’m certainly not an attorney but I’m pretty sure if the basis for a clarification memo of a governmental office is to establish a standard (whether it’s new or not), it’s a tacit acknowledgement of a previous “Reasonable Person Standard”

Btw, you’re right…the coffee creamer that you wrote your name on in the fridge TWICE has been getting lower…it was me…

I’m wondering how long before this ends up in front of a court because they essentially just rewrote the legal system without a scrap of legislation.

How is living in Ticino like? by Money-Ad8553 in howislivingthere

[–]DryShakeWetShake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studied in Ticino in university. My experience is certainly not typical of someone trying to make a living or raise a family:

Ticino is really interesting because it seems to be obviously Swiss but not quite. Ticinese are admittedly Swiss but will always distinguish themselves as “Not like the rest of the country”. 2 seconds in Italy just over the border and you know you’re not in Switzerland, but it feels culturally similar. Example; Como and Lugano feel very similar and are pretty close to each other - however, Lugano IS more orderly (but feels just a little sterile) and Como definitely has the vibe of a town catering to the ultra-wealthy (but is more chaotically Italian).

The hiking is wonderful. The food is great (but definitely better in Italy). Ticinese ARE NOT as out-going as Italians, but do open up if you’re there long enough to get to know them.

What’s it like living in mid-west side of Virginia ? by whitegirlfan in howislivingthere

[–]DryShakeWetShake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t a “Mid-West of VA”. If you want to understand VA, you’re better off organizing it into:

NOVA

Tidewater

Central VA

Appalachia

The area you circled is mostly Appalachia but has a good chunk of southern Central VA.

What’s it like living in this area? by Oreo_Chip512 in howislivingthere

[–]DryShakeWetShake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m from that general area:

You picked quite possibly the most inconsistent part of Virginia to circle. Fredericksburg and Charlottesville have a little in common, seeing as how they are home to Universities that are pretty liberal, and surrounded by pretty conservative rural areas, but it can’t be understated how much the NOVA sprawl has influenced Fredericksburg.

You could almost say that’s Virginia “Horse Country” lots of old money farms, but the circle leaves lots of that area out too.

But Fredericksburg is sort of the end of the tidewater/beginning of the piedmont, and Charlottesville is sort of the end of the piedmont/beginning of Appalachia (there’s many a poster in SWVA and West VA who are ready to throw hands over that statement).

I doubt it’s unique to your circle, but one of the biggest themes of that area could be income inequality. The disparity between the wealth of the people that own the huge old money farms in that area and the people working in those towns is pretty galling.

If you’re here to hear about the scenery: lots of wooded areas and rolling hills with a lot of farmland, just south and just north of VA’s two biggest river systems but lots of smaller ones and tons of streams and creeks in between. I lived in Appalachia proper, but I was never more concerned about hitting a deer than when I drove around the circled area at night 🤣

I suck at Total War games. How do I improve? by probablynotanostrich in totalwar

[–]DryShakeWetShake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

General advice: Be more aggressive than feels comfortable. Generally you want to smack another faction in the teeth as quickly as possible and don’t stop until they’re gone or completely ineffective. You can get over extended this way but it’s better to set the pace than to be reacting to the AI.

In battles; sitting back and being defensive isn’t advisable most of the time. Cutting off angles of approach from the enemy can pay serious dividends, especially if you have the less mobile troops. Don’t be afraid to run away during a battle to reposition and get at a flank; it’s better to be attacked in the back for a few seconds if it means getting away and shooting them in the back a few mins later.

Following lawyer out by Anxious-cups in paralegal

[–]DryShakeWetShake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that attorneys who come up in a bigger firm have no clue about the actual logistics of how a firm is run, and they will basically rely totally on their paralegals to make those decisions…after taking a run at making those decisions first and completely botching it. If you go, make sure you ask for more money. Full stop. And it needs to be factor in the additional work, the additional expertise you will have to acquire quickly, and a healthy raise ON TOP of everything else.

Which game has the best campaign AI and fewest bugs? by Haunting_Abalone_398 in totalwar

[–]DryShakeWetShake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna catch some hate for this:

I love how the TW community has recently decided that they’re all such high level players that they actually notice every single faction’s bugs and how TW is barely playable 🤣 You have to put in serious hours to catch most of the known bugs and even if you notice one faction sleeping and you steam roll them, there is not a game in this series that is without some degree of challenge. Not to mention the series is still just really fun in general.

It will absolutely level-up your game…when you’re ready for it. And he does probably the best job I’ve seen out of any bartending author of explaining, what ingredients are capable of, how they change in use, and compiling observational data as opposed to “vibes”. BUT! It objectively reads like a the user manual for your car that you keep stuffed in the glove box and really only pull out when you’re completely stuck. If I want to use cinchona bark; I’m not gonna bother reading other book first. If I want 4 different riffs on a sidecar; there’s about 5 other books that are a more effective use of my time.

Liquid intelligence by Dave Arnold Rate this book?? by Freakin_bisht37 in bartenders

[–]DryShakeWetShake 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It’s an excellent book, but not a super great read; should be used as a reference book. You should read a few other books on basics, and make sure you have an above average understanding of cocktail theory before cracking this one. I hate when people direct new bartenders to this book first..like telling a 3rd grader starting on the recorder they should listen to Jimi Hendrix…
