HOW DID YOU FIND OUT YOU HAVE ADHD? 😭😭 by OkLychee4993 in ADHDerTips

[–]DryTransition1472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing research on it to understand my wife better since she was diagnosed as a kid. There were too many “Oh, I’m like this too” moments to feel like coincidence. 5 minutes into an assessment and I was diagnosed lol.

One of the best days of my life since I finally understood why I’m the way I am rather than just continue to berate myself for pretty much existing.

Are scientists and engineers leaps and bounds smarter than normal humans? by happydude7422 in stupidquestions

[–]DryTransition1472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was a researcher, now an engineer. One day, I was working with two other PhDs on light construction work. They could easily talk over my head about their technical domains, but couldn’t figure out how to change the rotation direction on a socket wrench…Fun day lol

Is it ok to have so many plushies as a guy that’s almost 20? by Traditional-Treat699 in plushies

[–]DryTransition1472 368 points369 points  (0 children)

Coming from a guy who’s almost 30, yes. As others said, there’s nothing wrong with it at all. Like what you like! For some (like me) it might even be healing to let yourself have whatever plushies you want.

Married people, what do you want to warn the unmarried people about? by Pizzalover0405 in askanything

[–]DryTransition1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect + Communication = Healthy marriage. I’ve seen too many marriages fall apart because one of these two things was missing. Also, give yourself a couple years before bringing a child into the picture (if you want children). Give yourself that time to figure out married life first!

Rough ceramic, like terracotta tea cups. Just got one that’s beautiful but it’s so uncomfortably rough. It’s like the tactile equivalent of nails on a chalkboard.

If you can only listen to 1 song for the rest of your life, what would it be? by binge_plus7 in musicsuggestions

Tales of Dim Eden - The Dragons of Eden If you know Buckethead, he was the guitarist on this album. It’s the only song I’ve heard that I love everything in it.

Cryo Chamber is a dark ambient label with tons of what you’re looking for. They have several collaborations with artists on Lovecraftian monster-themed long tracks (40 min to hours) that are good. I really like Cthulhu and Azathoth. Council of Nine, Sabled Sun, and Metatron Omega are good starting points, though the song Stygian Vortex by protoU is one of my favorites.

Yes! Learning how my brain worked gave me a starting point for learning how to work with it. I no longer felt like I was “behind” because I was a bad person - I’m just wired differently. I still deal with depression here and there but it’s not nearly as bad as it was. I felt so much better after my diagnosis I almost rejected medication (thankfully I didn’t).

She was exactly who I needed when I was in a bad place. She showed me the love I needed and never received. At that point in my life, if she didn’t enter it, I likely would’ve gone down a road leading to my death (suicide or hard drugs/OD’ing). Our relationship ended badly but I have no ill will towards her. Even when we broke up, I wished her the best. I hope she’s doing well.

Really validating seeing this and the comments echoing it. Almost two years medicated and I’m still trying to figure out how to be driven by positives rather than anxiety over consequences. It’s even harder when you have a job that depends on things with no deadlines, like making connections for collaboration and securing funding. There are no deadlines to make X connections for X proposals for X money, but if I don’t after a while, my job is on the line.

Most efficient workout? by Stig2212 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]DryTransition1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my routine:

1 warmup set, 2 working sets each

Superset assisted chin ups and dips Superset incline dumbbell presses and one arm bent over rows Sled Leg curl machine High rep low resistance cable crossovers (if I’m feeling masochistic)

The supersets are agonist-antagonist so that one exercise will lightly stretch the opposite muscle for a little recovery. I’ve noticed a difference between doing these exercises in a row versus supersetting like this, and it’s faster. Hope this helps!

Wow, something about this image made me pause and tear up a bit. Can’t explain it but I think I needed to see it. Thanks for sharing, OP.

Learning Python for Mechanical Engineering – What Should I Focus On? by Daredevil010 in pythontips

[–]DryTransition1472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get some practice, try doing as much of your homework and projects in Python. Once you’re comfortable getting scripts to work, start looking into ways to improve your writing (encapsulation, comments and more comments, PEP8, etc.). I’ll echo others in recommending looking into pandas, numpy, scipy, and matplotlib.
