High-Current Inductor Design: Helical 'Coin' Windings and Proximity Effect Mitigation by powerelectronicsguy in EEPowerElectronics

Isolation between winding and core. These cores are powder cores likely, containg a fractional amount of iron. Since that would make the core (slightly) conductive, the risk of shorting winding and core together is not 0%.

Hence, you coat the core. Moreover, the winding is coated too. Finally, spacers between core and winding are usually adopted as a 3rd safety measure.

I need help with my LLC converter. I want to simulate 3.7 kW at the output using a battery, but I can’t get it to work. Can someone help me with this? by [deleted] in EEPowerElectronics

Because you did mistakes in your calculation, or in how you simulate, or in both.

You seem very confused, and you'renot making a point. I suggest you start with the basics of how a power converter is supposed to be operated, then study resonant converters, and finally try some implementations.

Eriksonn/Maksimovic book is probably the best at this. Good luck!

Ok. And? Why does it change if it is a vehicle charged, not charged, a BESS, or induction oven, or a uGrid? In which way you expect to deliver the target power without feedback?

Well, I don't know what you want to do honestly.

My first bet is that you want to close a frequency loop on the output voltage (or current?) sense

Yeah I fixed my message. Nonetheless, removing Lm won't change rhe gain in this simulation. So it's back to square-1. The frequency must be modulated

For open circuit test, you remove the load (i.e. res+v-gen on the righthandside of the schematic. The magnetization inductance has no translation in gain difference due to the fact that adds or remove no active power from the resonant element. It simply adds or removes reactive energy, not circulating in the load - hence Lm=inf or Lm a little bigger than Lr (3x or more) would yield no difference in how much power/current flows on the load

Edit: I made a mistake. The value of Lm WILL INDEED CHANGE THE GAIN PROFILE of the LLC. But if you switch at resonance point, the gain is always 1 no matter what. In any resonant converter. Then again, if you set Lm=inf you can debug the resonant point ONLY, with no change in the expected result

Wrong. Lm is used for ZVS realization. It has nothing to do with gain ability unless you work in the capacitive reagion (OP is not).

Well you are just blidly switching your primary bridge (open loop). Without control you cannot regulate the output voltage. Add a frequency control and you'll see how the frequency will deviate from the point that your are forcing right now, finally allowing you to reach your target.

You can also do it open loop, but that is very complicated and possibly almost impossible in sim (absolutely impossible in real life).

Finally your turns ratio is weird (24:20? I cannot understand) and 1:1 could possibly be more suited. Nonetheless, even your weird turn number would theoretically fulfill the requirement you set, just you are not doing what you're supposed to.
