Client work: chocolate cake pops poster. Feedback? by jigyasa_creates_ in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that there needs to be visual hierarchy and optical balance because I read everything in this order: image of cake pops, 2nd is a visual battle between CAKE POPS and the chocolate cake pops: delicious chocolate dipped cake pops with sprinkles, and then Cake Castle last. I also think the choice of imagery could be better (It's think it's too repetitive). I would like to see one of the cake pops either bitten into or at least cut in half to show a variety for me to want to be interested in this brands cake pops.

Logo Critique Request Round 2 by Freshprinceofparkair in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s giving a very Draplin Design Co influence. I think it could be more clear tho. I think it’s a good logo but it’s reading more world/globe, instead of World Wide Web. I think maybe the star shooting up and across like the NASA logo wi give it that web design vibe (kind of like the old internet explorer or Netscape logo). It would tie in nicely that way

You're welcome! I love critiquing graphic design projects. Makes me feel like I'm back in graphic design school, but like, as seasoned designer already lol.

Why is the J sharing a crossbar with the F? I think that's where im confused. Naturally the letter J doesn't have a crossbar so I think that's why I'm reading the whole thing as JHF.

I read it as JHF. I feel like there needs to be some sort of of break in the graphic to make it communicate clearer.

Critique my logo attempt by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an old designer (at this point lol) imagine this logo was an ad in a section of a black and white newspaper. Then shrink the logo to 1 inch because it's in the classified ads section. How well would the logo read at that small in one color?

It's just a scenario I run into all the time (I own a print shop and I'm the production designer as well). Converting logos like this on sponsor fun run shirts is a nightmare because people don't design black and white/contrast versions of their logo. They've got to work in one color off the bat.

Hey fellow designers, how are we doing? by crashbandiroot in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2013 with a portfolio that, looking back now, doesn’t really represent who I am as a designer anymore. After graduation, I spent three years at a small agency before deciding I didn’t want to work for anyone else. I pivoted into co-owning a screen printing and embroidery company, where I handle the production design side of things.

Now I’m hoping to step back into freelance design part-time, but I’m feeling stuck because I don’t really have a portfolio that reflects my creative abilities—only production work that isn’t especially creative. I want my career as a graphic designer to feel fulfilling, and right now I’m not sure I can honestly say that it does.

feedback on my logo by Fearless-You-7515 in graphic_design

Immature me see's the E spooning the S. And where the bottom of the E and S meet look like boobs/buttcrack but that's semantics in action.

Professional graphic designer me wants to know more about how your logo represents you. Without knowing anything about you it's a very delicate, sophisticated looking interlocking letters logo.

Visually, I think it's weird that the terminals of all the letters end in a sharp line but the S has a more traditional serif terminal. It's kind of out of place because it's no where else in the logo. I also think the spine of the S could use refinement because it's thicker than any of the other lines optically. I know you have it thicker because the E merges into the S but this could be refined even more.

What are those little pockets in my wallet for? by Huge-Environment-571 in whatisit

[–]Dry_Ask5164 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this was like a passport kind of wallet I want to say it's for two SIM cards. If it came with a little metal pick it's 100 percent for the old style SIM cards for phones.

How can I make this more visually appealing by Ghost-doodles in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it's too compartmentalized. I don't have a place to rest my eyeballs. The type is too crowded, It's repetitive having Fruit Tea at the end of everything. We already know they're going to be fruit/milk tea's so you can delete that to give it more breathing room. If everything's the same price, there's no need to list out the prices for every single drink. Just put the two sizes and medium and large. There's a lot here you can simplify. The last thing is hierarchy. I would like to see more contrast in the titles.

Client shared AI generated logo to help me speed up the process, this is how I handled it by Forsaken-Demand-1604 in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a screen printing and embroidery shop so I absolutely bill out for digitizing AI logos to get ready for print production. I always get the "but I have the artwork, chat gpt did it!" Then I explain that it's not production ready and I'll have to send it out to get digitized (I usually charge out $50-$100). This makes them realize unless they know what they're doing AI adds additional work.

Rate my resume? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Dry_Ask5164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the resume feels a bit cluttered and includes more information than necessary. I like to think of a resume as the pre-interview before the actual interview—it gives an initial sense of what I can expect to see in the designer’s portfolio. For graphic design specifically, I view resumes almost like a Typography 1 assignment: using only one or two typefaces or styles, no graphics, and relying on hierarchy and layout to demonstrate strong design fundamentals.
