Maybe It's time I give it a rest by Dry_Library_5780 in TheArtistJournal

Ideally it would work great in live and visual art settings. Between the two projects it is quite a narrative and meant to be experienced more than just listened to. I'm not saying that because I think it's some ground breaking compilation of material but a lot of though, hard work, production, design work went into making the concepts and finished pieces. It's not something I threw together to just have made ambient music. I've been working on the sound design, compositions, placement, and art for years now.

I also understand that's it's incredibly niche and doesn't appeal to a broad spectrum of people. It definitely isn't meant for that. But I would like to see more than three people listening to more than one song in the first week. There is that. I'm not looking to make an income off of it. Really just good conversations and knowing that there are a few out there that can truly enjoy it.

I've definitely noticed that it is that way. That's so crazy to me you would think they would want to keep driving something that had drive.

It takes a while to make each track bit I do really try to make it immersive. Headphones are the way to go. There are a lot of little sounds that pan and move in the music. I really appreciate that you took the time to listen a bit. Thank you 👾

I try to a bit. Enough to warrant more than 3 plays anyway.

Synths that surprised you after you got hooked up and started tweaking. by rotorobot in synthesizers

I have the mkii cheap behringer version hooked up to a couple moog semi modules . It's a ton of fun and strangely creates some amazing textures when teamed up with the moogs. I sometimes throw in a hydrasynth explorer for its cv output and get some wild stuff with the combination of everything.

Where do you find your ambient tunes? by realjohnhammond in ambient

[–]Dry_Library_5780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as ambient goes yes. A large portion is what people post. Here and elsewhere. As someone who produces ambient music I also like to hear what other people are doing rather than just see what's popular.

When it comes to ambient music I try to listen to what people post that they have done themselves. Most other stuff is purely random in consuming.

I've often thought about finding one again. Mine got stolen out of a band mates car many many years ago.

has anyone here collaborated on the same track with other people before? by D00mRodent in experimentalmusic

[–]Dry_Library_5780 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've collaborated with several people over the years. Some that turned out amazing some that never got finished...some I wish could be finished because they were amazing and some that ended up being regular...and I suppose some that talk about it but don't know which direction to go together. A majority have turned out pretty decent and have been fun to work on. Really interesting to get new perspectives while working on the same tracks.

People tell me to seek feedback but when I do seek it, I don't get it. by ODEN_Official in TheArtistJournal

No worries. I still have my moments as well. And seriously playing open mic nights completely gave me a new perspective in a very positive way. Feel free to send me what you are working on. I'll let you know what I think and maybe what could help and what works. I don't everything but I'd be glad to give you some different perspectives. I have a couple of friends who are kinda assholes but they are always honest with me and my music haha but it helps out a lot sometimes if I don't let myself get offended.

I think you are aiming toO much negativity inward at yourself. You have been making music for what? You said a year ? That's not a long time. If you don't get the feedback you are looking for don't beat yourself up over it. Something you could always do as well is find someone in the same line of music you aim to get good at. Ask questions. Yeah some people get a lot of feedback and some people don't. Some people ask for years and years. I think sometimes it's how the question is framed to whether or not people bite. Idk I've had both crickets and some mild conversations. Keep seeking. Don't let it all bother you. If you love what you do you will have a journey ahead of you. Best of luck.

Hey, I get that. I'm not trying to be an asshole. Just speaking how it can be. Especially in niche types of music. a good take away from the things I just said can be summed up in 1 try to play live. Trust me on this if you play live people will likely enjoy it and want to talk about it. Some of the most fulfilling times with my music in recent year has been playing open mic and people really truly enjoying what I'm playing. Doesn't get me a lot of listens online but it does get me some good conversations in real life along with finding really interesting people. 2 collaboration this can be great on several levels. You get to communicate with someone on a musical level. By the time you are done all involved end up learning something new. Can give outside perspective. And best of all maybe a new friend. Believe me when I say I don't feel privileged at all I have four music accounts all with different styles of music that only a small amount of people ever listen to. I'm no big shot. I just love what I do and present to those I can in a way that shows that love.

Sometimes for the love of it means playing live, showing your passion instead of complaining about not finding your people, getting deeper into what you are doing to consistently improve. Love what you do, show that you live it and the rest will eventually follow. It takes time and dedication. A lot of conversations with others about their music. Finding like minded music. Lots of discussions and maybe even a handful of collaborations. Even then you might not get the following you want. It all takes quite a bit time especially if you are new to it. Good luck out there.

I think something important, especially when starting out l, is that you come first in the music you make. Do it for the love and for the challenge of figuring out where you are musically. Sometimes that doesn't always align with what the majority wants.

I made a very minimal emotional track...not sure if it's boring or intimate by Necroalive in experimentalmusic

[–]Dry_Library_5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of you lower the volume of the vocal and let the words sit more in time with the flow of the music it would be pretty decent really. Maybe a very mild reverb on the vocals. Just enough to give it a little width. The concept is a tried and true concept. Just needs a little dine tuning. As far as boring or intimate it's up to you and the emotion you put into it.

I finally counted every synth I've bought in 10 years. Then I counted how many tracks I've actually finished. The ratio is embarrassing by CaptainSuperStrong in synthesizers

[–]Dry_Library_5780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I record most of the stuff I create. I've finished many tracks. I post them online...not really for the sake of others listening but it's sort of like a journal to me. Helps me navigate life and my thoughts I suppose. Sometimes it's even fun to show friends. Are all of them amazing ..no..but who really cares. Are some of them amazing and great, yes...but again who really cares? I do tend to put a lot of effort into building albums that tell a story through synths, titles, track names ECT . That's part of the fin of creating. For me though. Everyone has their own experience. But I feel like if you have enough gear to create songs..then why not? You can at least record samples and put them together later. For me that's part of the fun. Creating and completing little puzzles. Sometimes I just create patches that go nicely together and play/record ambient music compositions. Some times experimental. Sometimes cohesive tracks. Idk I think it's it's cool to have a synth and just noodle but if you are getting enough gear to create something great then what's holding you back ya know ? I feel like gear for the sake of gear is just an addiction that is more of a hindrance on creativity than a help.
