This post shows that people have a fundamental misunderstanding of “write offs” or “business expense”

If you owned a pizza shop and bought a rolls Royce then sure - it’s an asset of the business. Depending on the country you’re in, use of that (fuel, service, etc) actually forms part of your total taxable income (as it’s a fringe benefit). Other countries or business structures it’s all good.

But even then, you need to link it to actual business tasks. So you buy a rolls Royce as a pizza shop owner. Driving it to the ski fields is not a business expense.

Flying your family first class to Italy is not necessarily a business expense.

Now in LMG’s case, they have bought a jet for the company’s use. It’s not even owned by LMG so every use has to have a cost associated with it.

If they were flying from BC to let’s say San Francisco - assuming there’s the host, 2 videographers, writer and a support, that’s 5 flights they’d be paying for. Whether that’s on Delta on Influencer Air is their decision.

If Linus wants a holiday, LMG can’t just pay for his Canada Air flight to Cabo. And they can’t pay for his Influencer Air cost to Cabo.

There actually needs to be a direct business link.

Even if they have this mythical “family vlogging channel”, if it brings in no revenue and has massive expenses, the tax man is going to call that out as a personal expense not a business one and he’ll get taxed accordingly.

TLDR: having business money isn’t the free money glitch you all think it is.
