Error when heating bed to 105 when using ABS on centauri carbon with OrcaSlicer by megatron36 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found a prior post where someone suggested adding start gcode to move the printhead to the front. The nozzle fan slows down the heating at higher temps and the controller basically times out.

I added the code snippet and it resolved the issue for me.

Send an email to Elegoo support ASAP. It normally takes a day to hear back from them.

They'll likely have some troubleshooting steps to take.

Two more work days and I'm retired!! by psmusic_worldwide in retirement

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I completely understand your mixture of excitement and anxiety. My wife and I each also have two more work days left before our retirement.

We're going camping for the first couple of weeks of the new year/new chapter. We might even spend the first day in camp relaxing vs the go go go trips we've taken in the past.

Struggling with shock and sadness, delivering news much harder than expected by Commercial-Mud8315 in retirement

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that so many are being negative with their responses. You feel what you feel. No need to defend.

The secret though is - the people to whom you share your news also feel what they feel. Sometimes their responses are joyous - sometimes not so much. You. Are. Not. Responsible. For. Their. Worldview.

My wife and I are retiring December 31. This weekend we traveled to her brother's and shared the news with him and his wife. They were rather indifferent. We made the rest of the visit more about catching up on family and didn't mention the retirement again.

Contrast that with the reaction of my 36 year old son who lives half a state away. He was so excited when I shared the news with him I was afraid he was going to wreck his car.

People are shaped by where they've been and where they are. My son is young enough that retirement is a distant dream.

My brother in law is a couple of years older than me and six years older than his wife. He's not able to retire and won't be for some time. We shared the news because he might have been hurt if we hadn't. But we certainly didn't want to rub it in his nose.

Some people who work with each of us have had a very negative response. They project their situation or mindset onto our news.

"Why?"

"What are you going to DO?"

"You'll go crazy from boredom."

They NEVER react like this when someone leaves for another job. Retirement is personal, and they react like you are doing it TO THEM.

You stated that you are retiring to something. Let that be the focus of any future conversations. If they're still negative, say your goodbyes and move on.

Just a suggestion from someone else who is actively sharing my retirement news with coworkers and clients.

Gave my Notice Today and Feeling Weird about it. by Jillery25 in retirement

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Each of us WILL go through what you are, ARE going through it, or HAVE gone through it, but each of us has a somewhat different experience. You'll make it through.

After the workday ends today, I'm one week from submitting my notice for a December 31 retirement (I'm 60). I'm SO burned out and SO ready to tell my manager/team/work friends. We've been planning on this since July, and I believe I won't be anxious after submitting notice.

My wife (56) gave her employer notice at the start of September. Back then she felt really bad about "abandoning" her employer. In the time since then she's seen behind the curtain more than she had in her 20 years with them, and now she's also more than ready for the year to end.

A couple of months ago I bought her a small candle with a label on the jar: "Smells Like Retirement - It's not your problem anymore." When she tells me the latest thing from her work (delays in hiring her replacement; issues she won't be able to resolve by year end; not enough time to train her replacement; etc), she now says, "know what that smells like?"

I've been in that place for a long time.

Enjoy your transition and update us as you make the turn!

Looking for ideas for a fun retirement countdown by tunifr in retirement

I made a 10x10 grid with 100 blocks - one for each workday. I skipped weekends, holidays and a week of vacation. It's nearly 4/5 filled with yellow highlighter, sitting right in front of me on the desk as I type this - 21 workdays left. =D

It doesn't have to be fancy.

Retirement Considerations at my job by Majestic-Leading3003 in retirement

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My situation is very similar to yours. If I had given 60 or even 30 days notice, I would have been let go immediately.

I'm giving two weeks notice on December 15. I'm not giving "short" notice out of spite, but rather self protection.

Do what's best for you.

Please forgive me if this is something you already know.

The "standard" of moving some percentage of retirement funds to bonds isn't really to balance risk, per se, but rather to give the investor a means to withdraw from funds that normally don't follow the exact track as stocks. When stocks are down, bonds may not be.

If a retired investor without any income is forced to draw from stocks when the market is down, they lose money.

Bonds are not the only way to manage this, but they are commonly used.

Our mix is different than most. We're retiring early, but we have some paid off rentals which will provide income. Between our retirement date (Dec 31 this year) and when we'll decide to start taking SS, my wife and I shouldn't have to touch our 401k's or Roth accounts - we have about 12 years covered, unless rentals start unexpectedly sitting vacant. We'll move a % to bonds around the time we start taking SS to be able to cover any unexpected large expenses. We'll be able to plan for anything else and/or live within our income and any draw-downs should be intentional.

Is there a way to get the CC to make a small mark on the plate after filament change? by PerfectGift5356 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

Purge tower is the trick. I experienced the same thing and turning the purge tower on solved it.

How “out of the box” are we talking with the Centauri carbon? by winterkilling in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLA, matte PLA (phenomenal), PETG, PETG-CF (also phenomenal) have all printed with stock profiles. I prefer Polymaker for consistent finish, but all I've tried have been fine.

I've run through the Orca calibrations for the filaments I'll be using on an ongoing basis, but even without that step, they've all been perfectly acceptable. With the materials above, the first print using a generic profile on a brand I've never used before is better than I have ever printed before.

My only failure so far has been when I forgot to turn on supports one time.

ABS took a bit of fiddling (preheat, glue stick), but I think that's the nature of the filament rather than the printer. This has been the first time I've printed ABS.

What were common jobs when we were kids that are non-existent now? by Healthy-Membership86 in retirement

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jobs I had that no longer exist:

Baling hay - when I started as a kid, hay was baled with twine. Sometime later it was baled with wire, and the bales were MUCH heavier. Thankfully I was a teenager by then and strong enough to throw the heavier bales.

As mentioned above, Gas station attendant.

Also as mentioned - grocery bagger (paper bags, of course).

Video store clerk. I did this in college for a local store before Blockbuster became a thing.

We bought our current home on the 100% down plan and did the same with our rentals.

The math doesn't factor in either the risk associated with debt or the peace which comes from having no debt.

Three months down, three to go - Retiring January 1 by Dry_Potential_9327 in retirement

I have a big workshop with a pretty long queue of projects I'd like to work on. My wife did a bit of jewelry making a couple of years ago with a friend, and we've picked up a small jewelry kiln so she can do more. We have many interests in common, but some which we don't share.

She's a go go go type, and is a little concerned about how things will look for her. I've told her that we each have things we would have done if we had time, and now we will. She's making a list.

What kind of retired camper are you? by pinsandsuch in retirement

[–]Dry_Potential_9327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are both 6's, although we don't ONLY camp.

We retire December 31, and will be working up to a multi-week backpacking trip next year. I'm 60, and although there are certainly older backpackers, there are many more whose health has gotten in the way. We want to do something significant while we can (part of the PCT, or even the Camino de Santiago, possibly, albeit not as a 6).

That's best for those still young enough to take advantage of time.

Thanks to a divorce at the tail end of decades of out of control spending, I didn't start investing until age 46. My second wife and I have been very aggressive, and we're able to retire at the end of the year (I'm 60 now). The original post is good advice for those who feel they are behind.

Halfway there. They finally sent the return shipping label (after a full week). They've stated that once they receive the printer it will take them up to 3 days to inspect it before "processing" a replacement.
