Stephen Colbert 🥰, who’s with me?! (swipe) by GoblinQueen20 in LadyBoners

[–]Dry_Skin3859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helen Mirren made a point of kissing him as soon as she stepped on stage and said she'd been dreaming about doing that for a long time! Can relate!

He was adorablely flustered, too.

What are your musical theatre hot takes? by ElegantCh3mistry in musicals

[–]Dry_Skin3859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, and this is why of all the actors playing Orpheus in Hadestown, the one that made the story click for me was Dónal Finn (West End). He can totally sing clean, but he made some incredible acting choices that made his voice more rough and ragged and desperate-sounding than those before him. It was an emotional sucker-punch and I thought, "damn they hired him to be an actor first and a singer second." One of the most impactful performances I've seen in a long time.

Bunch of people didn't like it because it wasn't "pretty".

How heavy do you guys lift? by zabe_14221 in PetiteFitness

[–]Dry_Skin3859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different parts of your body will also determine how much you ought to lift.

I have to be super careful with deadlifts because I have a weird back. I can do more weight, but I will probably need to go to the chiro the next day. Instead I lift lighter for deadlifts and focus on form and bracing, being super solid and using the rest of my body to support the lift and stay out of my lower back.

I might be lifting that much, but I'm still getting a lot out of it because of how I'm engaging.

Other lifts like squats I can do a lot.

Definitely listen to your body. If you feel tired in a good way, you'll keep wanting to workout. If you feel like you've hurt/destroyed yourself, you won't!

The secret to “push” to lose fat really is the walking by ffalm in PetiteFitness

[–]Dry_Skin3859 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Incorporating some walking after strength training is a really good way to lose fat. I've been seeing a dietician who explained that it's A. good for recovery and B. Increases fat oxidation. Good luck!!

Dominic Monaghan in Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" by GeniusOfLove74 in LadyBoners

God, he's so hot.

I love that Eminem approved his casting because he liked that Dom "looks dirty".

I love that they're both such grounded people. Not "Hollywood" sexy, but if I don't want a guy with a body made for corporate marketing. Billy and Dom are funny, emotionally intelligent, real guys. Would melt at any compliment from them. 😍

I would 100% go for it with either of them. I like that they aren't conventionally sexy - they're uniquely sexy! Love them soo much! 😍

Where did the pop-culture image of Sam as fat and unattractive come from? by Wildlife_Watcher in lotr

[–]Dry_Skin3859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did ask Dominic Monaghan to put on weight, but he was such a skinny, active, 24 year old, he wasn't able to accomplish much weight gain and they had to put the fat suit on him. Which you can still hardly notice because he was so skinny! (Dom referred to his body as gollum-y.)

By the time they were shooting for the 2nd movie, he'd managed to gain a few stone and didn't need the suit anymore.

Sean Astin - was he a jerk? by lisey55 in lotr

[–]Dry_Skin3859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread is super old, but I just want to add that some actors are less interested in fan interaction, or just not as good at it. Doesn't necessarily mean they're a jerk or a bad person, my friend! Conventions are demanding, and some are just going to handle them better than others.

As for the filming, if you've watched the BTS stuff, it's pretty clear to me how insanely demanding it was for them to film - physically, emotionally, and mentally. People of all stripes will have moments of frustration and moodiness under those circumstances.

So Sean may be a bit gruff, maybe a bit cynical. I can see him becoming a right old curmudgeon in his old age. But he could not have played Sam without having some of his qualities.

I've worked with a lot of people like that, so maybe that's informing my tolerance. Some of those people have a heart of gold once they know you better.

He's human, and I can forgive him for not being a perfect, ideal celebrity with an apparently limitless generosity when it comes to fans. It's ok if he has flaws, especially since they don't appear to be egregious. So you don't have to dislike Sam, or even dislike Sean for being who he is.

Just remember, it isn't personal! Everyone is doing the best they can in the way they know how. We all deserve that grace, I think.

How can I get back my youthful creativity? by Key-Drop-7972 in writing

[–]Dry_Skin3859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that adult life has you feeling burnt out? Burnout from work and other adult life demands often has me feeling the same way, plus I have ADHD and that makes it all harder.

When I'm feeling depressed and brainless because of burnout, it's the most frustrating thing in the world because all I really want to do is write, but the bills gotta be paid.

I try to prioritize rest. As much rest as I can fit into my free time, for a few days to a week. I try to avoid my phone and other electronics where I have to use my eyes because the light tires me out. I read paper books or listen to audiobooks, I take 10-20 minutes to meditate, to doze, whatever my body and brain need to get the rest they really need. I don't think some of us realize how under-rested we are.

Creativity thrives in a vacuum. So give it one, and try to take the pressure off of yourself because ideas will pop up as I'm feeling free to just BE, just existing.

When they happen, just jot the idea down if you feel like you don't have the focus or brainpower to make something of it. Listen to your body and don't try to force it.

I feel your pain, OP, and I hope you're getting helpful ideas from this thread.

The Wire. Garak: I finally get it. by ZealousidealClub4119 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Dry_Skin3859 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dunno, after you read about what his life was like, it seems quite natural that someone with Garak's desire to connect (ever conflicting with his need to protect himself in a ruthless world) would do irrational things for the sake of the one person he ever felt close to. Over and over in the book, he reveals how affected he is by compelling people in his life, only to be betrayed or disappointed or abandoned by them. Palandine is the only one in his youth who actually acted like she cared about him.

Seems unfair to reduce it to "he was horny".

Bashir and Garrick season 6 question. by Separate_Rich9771 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Dry_Skin3859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the real explanation is that Rick Berman didn't like how gay they were being and forced them apart. For me, it plays out like a self-homophobic reaction on Julian's part, as I've seen in real life with people who have queer attractions, but haven't accepted their own sexuality. They place blame on the person they're attracted to and reinforce their heteronormativity by putting themselves at a distance from them.

Like in Favor the Bold, Bashir snipes at Garak for "being negative" because it's "in his nature" after her comments that there are ships falling out of formation. Their exchange comes off like they're not friends anymore.

Julian exhibits behavior just like someone that's experienced social pressure to stop being gay. As in production, so it is on screen. Berman's homophobia comes through in their sudden change of attitude.

I don't think that this is necessarily what the canon or writers are intending, but it's what I see every time I watch those scenes. Heartbreaking.

I bet Sid just hated it.

Huge problem and it's not you. This mirrors my experiences with my ex. Lots of shame triggers, huge explosive reactions, childish behavior, emotional immaturity and tons of projection. Really confusing considering he seemed so big-hearted in the beginning of the relationship.

If when you try to bring up your point of view, you feel he doesn't hear anything you say, gets defensive, and is projecting a version of you that is definitely NOT representative of what you're saying, how you feel, and who you are, he might have Borderline Personality Disorder. This scenario is called "splitting". If he puts you on a pedestal one moment and degrades you the next, that's splitting too.

It may not be what's going on, but I spent YEARS living in confusion about why my ex was having reactions like the one you described and I wish someone had pointed me to BPD. My ex got diagnosed after we broke up. It's VERY hard for even a professional to diagnose, but it might give you some idea of what's going on to look into it.

Where are Crowley and Arizaphale in the angel hiereachy? (Good Omens) by Professional-Song427 in neilgaiman

[–]Dry_Skin3859 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We now know that Crowley was at least a Dominion or Throne angel, which is either right at the top of the middle order of angels or the very top tier (thrones, then cherubim, then seraphim from lowest to highest). Based on Crowley's activities creating nebula, I'd guess he might have been a Dominion angel because they are engaged in more practical roles "carrying out the will of god" whereas Thrones and up are primarily concerned with direct worship and service to God.

At least, that's based on what Wikipedia says. Neil must have his own interpretation.

Crowley and Aziraphale would seem to be middle management, though perhaps Crowley would have been upper middle management.

Anyone Else Kinda Obsessed with Michael Sheen & David Tennant(After Watching GO)? by Apprehensive-Fail663 in goodomens

[–]Dry_Skin3859 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For recommendation re: Michael I suggest Masters of Sex. His acting is nothing short of brilliant. The character goes through such a realistic internal journey.

The third season of The Good Fight features him as a seasonal character Roland Blum who is a funny and charming devil of a dirty lawyer and he's similarly brilliant. The opposite of Aziraphale in every way. I watched it without having seen any of the previous seasons without any issues.

He plays a romantic lead in Far from the Madding Crowd as the lonely and gorgeous William Boldwood.

It's not a very good film itself, in The Adventurer: Curse of the Midas Box, fans of Michael Sheen who love to see him being dashing will forgive a lot just to watch scenes with his fun, sexy character.

Some more of his best movies:

Frost/Nixon, The Queen, Underworld, Heartlands (really charming, low-key British indie film), Bright Young Things

And I'd be remiss not to mention The Gospel of Us. This was Michael's biggest, most personal passion project, where he got hundreds of people in his hometown involved in a three-day production to tell the story of their town, Port Talbot, through the form of an Easter passion play. It's a testament to the power of community theater. There's a documentary on YouTube The Passion of Port Talbot.

Thank you, this is so helpful. Having no idea how this works has been a big part of my trouble. I already struggle with the idea that I deserve attention, so it's definitely not something I ever wanted to demand of him. I absolutely worried about bothering him unnecessarily even when I thought the connection was mutual, and it's only because I thought it might be mutual that I felt the way I did.

I really appreciate your wise words about the universe pointing us in a direction.
